Since Ava left the scene with all those damn Drakenhardts she had desperately kept her hair from turning into a heat plate. Why in the actual fuck did she have to deal with a herd of those people during her first days out of the hospital? Even Ava needed mental preparation for that! But no. Suddenly they're all on the scene, and expect Ava to just slip right in? No fucking way!
Ava hissed a bit when she touched her hand to her hair, it was getting pretty hot. She looked at her finger, not burned. Good. Burns were a pain in the ass.
Ava moved to the side, away from the crowd, so she wouldn't burn anyone. Ava sat down on the grass and just took deep breaths to calm herself and lower the temperature of her hair. If it accidentally turned into lava Ava would get a migraine out of this century.
Ava would not cry, not in public. But she had talked of her mother, and though Ava was strong just the thought of her strong fire dragon mother at the bottom of an ice lake in Alaska made her want to scream and rage.
Ava sighed heavily and let her head sink between her knees. After her hair was back to normal temperature she'd get up and hunt down some food.

Having a family as large as his was a handful sometimes. Some days more so than others. Ava was one of the unfortunate cases that managed to slip through the cracks and off their family radar. When he'd read the reports from the scouts handling the case, he immediately made arrangements to take her in. Well after some discussion with his kid.

Ava was already shaken up enough, and meeting so many relatives she didn't know at once probably didn't help her much. Titus was now pursuing her through the festival. Until she finally settled down in some grass, looking worn out honestly.

"Hey kid, sorry about all that earlier," he said, settling down next to her. "Wanna talk while you cool off?"

Ava smelled Titus long before he came near but honestly she had no energy to be pissy. But she was still pissed and at first didn't acknowledge him. Like he said, Ava took her time to "cool off", as in let her hair cool down. Then she lifted her head to stare forward at the stream of people on the street.
"Everyone here keeps calling me a kid, or girlie, or a teenager, or some other shit. It makes me feel less than I am, like I'm not capable of rational thought. Mom just always called me Ava, she respected me and I respected her."
Ava turned to look at Titus, though her hair had cooled down her eyes still had fire.
"I'm not stupid and like I said earlier, I do not blame all Drakenhardts. I don't blame anyone. But one of you disrespected my mother when they abandoned her. They disrespected me when they deemed me not worth sticking around for. One of your 'family' didn't think me and mom weren't worth it. And yet..."
Ava sighed and turned her head away again. There was not any moistness in Ava's eyes, they were now more steel than fire.
"I know what you want. You want to make me a Drakenhardt. But I don't know if I can trust you, if I can respect you. Because like I said, the only person I ever respected, my family, is at the bottom of a lake in Alaska. And my dad, I will never consider him family. Never."

Titus listened, and nodded in agreement with her. This was a bit different from other kids he'd worked with because of the personal investment. He looked over at her, and then down at the crowd. "Alright, Ava I'm not looking at you like some kid. How to word this... your dad did a real shitty thing just leaving like that. Made a fucking mess too, and now here you are."

He hated situations like this, he really did. He didn't even think anyone raised within his clan could actually be this low. Whatever no, no one would just leave their family just like that. They were raised better. At least he thought as much. He made a face. "Alright, well on the front of making you a Drakenhardt... I did sign on to be your legal guardian. I'm not gonna make you become one of us if you don't want to. And no I'm not your mom, but I have a hell of a lot more investment than your dad could ever muster. We all do, really. Just give us a chance, go at your own pace. We won't let you down, I'll bet my hoard on that."

Ava scoffed when Titus said he had signed up to be her legal guardian. Of fucking course, and she had not been informed about it. Because here she was just a kid who didn't know better. Just a brat among many, whining about adults being stupid.
Ava turned to look at Titus her other brow raised. She had fisted her hands, her hair was heating up a bit again.
"Well, aren't I just the luckiest fucking orphan? I lose a mom and fall right into the hands of a great, big, happy family. Sounds wonderful."
Ava had never thought she actually even could sound this sarcastic. There was silent venom in her words. Ava stood up and started pacing a bit, hands tucked in her pockets.
"Mom forced this name on me for the very reason if she someday died suddenly. She thought this name would protect me. But we both truly believed that you people wouldn't give a fuck. Since I was a kid I have prepared myself for a life alone, protecting myself. So do you get how hard it is to just...give you a chance?"
Ava whipped her head to look at Titus, her hair was getting dangerously hot.
"I can't trust the word of a Drakenhardt. Not now anyway. Too little, too late."

She was definitely a relative of his just given how hard headed she was being about this. Titus could feel the heat as her anger flared up again. Being a fire elemental himself, he wasn't particularly uncomfortable because of it. He inhaled, and exhaled tiny clouds of smoke through his nostrils. "Well, if you won't take my word for it, that's fine. It's easier to just win you over through actions," Titus answered as if he was waiting for that exact response.

He looked down at his phone, it seemed Orsick was looking for him. He'd make a face, before looking back to Ava. She was really heating up, "I can't really make you change your mind. I have no real immediate way to prove this is all going to be fine. I'm not going to make you live in my house if you don't want to. I'm just asking for like a month, after that you can come to your decision about us."

Ava knew she was acting immature but right now she just didn't give a fuck. She did try to make her hair cool down, it was starting to hurt her. And the last thing Ava needed was another trip to the hospital because of second degree burns. Those healed so slowly. Ava took some deep breaths and was able to bring down her temperature several degrees. She tried touching her hair and hissed a bit. Still hot.
Ava turned to look at Titus, her respect towards him rose just a bit. Ava was a strong believer in the saying 'Actions speak louder than words'. She huffed a bit and felt her hair cool down some more.
"You are welcome to try. But I can't promise you anything."

Ava considered Titus' words. A month from now was her 15th birthday. It would be her first ever birthday alone. Her mother had always spent it with her, but now...
Ava fought back tears, not the time and place. She looked at Titus warily, and nodded slowly.
"Alright, I accept those conditions. Don't you have somwhere to be?"
Ava was referring to Titus looking at his phone earlier.
"It's not like you want to deal with a moody teenager like me, right?"
Ava said sarcastically, and that made her hair go back to normal. Now she just felt sullen and a bit dejected, and exhausted. She sat down on the grass and lay down on her back, looking at the sky.

Titus smirked, seeing as he seemed to have won Ava over for the time being. Though he was confident she'd stick around a good bit longer than a month. "Not really, moody teenagers is a big part of my job anyway," he responded to his texts and focused back on Ava. "I've got nowhere to be right now. Unless you wanna grab some food, or head out."

He actually caught his scent before he saw him swoop in. A smaller, eyeless dragon with glittering black scales landed near the two of them. He growled quietly, sniffing at Titus, then at Ava. "Finally found you. You know how hard it is to sniff you out in these crowds?" the little dragon said as he shifted into his human form. He was wearing a band tee, and looked to be between ten and twelve with red reptilian eyes

"Now everyone's here. Ava, this is Orsick," he made a gesture to the younger boy, who grinned and waved.

Ava did not like Titus' smirk, it made it seem like he had won. Ava considered just throwing Titus' offer back at his face. But Ava kept her word, because promises between dragons were holy. Her mother had taught her that. Though Ava realized she had probably made it up so Ava would brush her teeth.

Ava opened her mouth to tell Titus to just go when a small dragon flew to the scene. It looked like it had no eyes, and boy did Ava feel that pain. Her eyesight sucked as a dragon. Ava recognized his scent, it was the kid from earlier. And what do you know, he did shift into that kid seconds later. Ava remembered the kid had been bit rude earlier but she really would be a pot calling a kettle black if she called him out on it. So Ava just waved a bit unsurely. She felt awkward. She didn't like feeling awkward.
"Yeah, pleasure. Listen, right now I don't feel like doing " family bonding" or whatever. I just...want to see this concert while it's still going on."
