Waking up with a start, Letty gasped violently, very disoriented and not sure where she was. There was a blanket over her body, and she yanked it up to her chin, her eyes growing wide as she took in her new surroundings. The blanket over her was a bit scratchy, and her chest slowly heaved faster and faster as she fought to maintain her fear. The last thing she remembered was being cornered in the woods, ready to die in the face of the werecreature. Somewhere around then, she had blacked out, and couldn't remember what happened next. Waking up on this strange couch, Leticia was a little afraid to sit up, her ears straining for the faintest sound. She heard small, far away scratching noises against the floor, and wondered if that wolf had ended up taking her home instead.

It didn't even smell like home, it smelled like a foreign combination of leather and must. Slowly, Leticia sat up, her fingers curling around the only form of protection she possessed. Though it was a bit flimsy, the blanket gave her more peace than she had in ages. Slowly acclimating to her new surroundings, Leticia tentatively stared around the room from her perch on the bed. Her breath caught for a moment, her body being on a bed meant a lot of lewd things according to those horror and psychological films she had watched. Tugging her shirt up, Leticia checked for any damages that might suggest anything sexual. Finding only a couple faded bruises and scratches, Leticia pressed her mouth in a thin line, hoping for the best and expecting the worst as she pressed herself back against the pillows, preparing for the footsteps that sounded like they were getting closer.

Jesus Christ what a day. Werewolves were the bane of Hayate's life, they were brutal, vicious creatures and the only thing they were good for was a rug. The evening had started off normally, a routine patrol. Until the sound a scuffle had made him curious, and it was awfully lucky it had. He'd fired a gun just in time, scaring the great beast off and leaving what appeared to be a tiny girl battered and bruised where he'd been leering over. The wolf had been smart, knew better than to challenge someone as seasoned as the dog boy, it likely wouldn't have made it out alive, but Hayate would have preferred it that way. Movement caught his attention, and his head snapped sideways to where he'd set the girl on his bed. Thank fuck she's alive.

Pushing himself to his feet and moving across the room as she tried to sit up, Hayate tutted and shook his head, "no, no, no. Don't try that yet." Better safe than sorry, and if there was any internal damage then she'd just end up doing more harm to herself by trying to move about. Sparky's head lifted from the rug, dead eyes settling on the pair, and the girl that his master had dragged out of the woods. What the hell was she doing in there in the first place? That was a good question, actually. But answers could come later, Hayate was far more concerned with this girl's predicament right now. "You had a hell of a nasty run in, don't try to move about yet."

Leticia let out a faint whimpering sound, catching sight of a strange man approaching her. He didn't look like a wolf, nor did he particularly look like he wanted to murder her. Leticia hissed violently, pushing herself even further back against the headboard of the bed. She would rather fight her way out than let this strange guy have his way. A wave of dizziness and nausea washed over her, and her hand came up automatically to press against the side of her head. She slumped back against the pillows, wrapping the blanket even tighter about her torso. "It wasn't that bad, I can go home now. I'll just... I'll just be going now."

Slithering off the bed, Leticia kept a tight grasp on her blanket, ready to dart past him when she caught sight of the dog-thing that was laying on a rug. It didn't even look alive, much less like a dog, and immediately she squeaked and pounced back up on the bed. She didn't know what that was, but facing a potential serial killer was better than facing an undead dog. Her heart had begun to pound at the knowledge that there was a dog in here with them, and she broke out into a light sweat. Since her incident, Leticia had developed something of a phobia towards dogs, and large hairy animals in general. "Is that... A dog? The dog?" She remembered it had been a hairy animal that had been after her, not something that looked like ... Well, that.

The poor girl was petrified and Hayate felt a twang of sympathy for her, she had a right to be scared though, he didn't make to grab her as she tried to move again, at risk of shaking her up even more. There was a sense of mistrust in her eye, all at once Hayate decided she was smarter than he'd originally thought. "I'm not gonna hurt you," he stated, softly, "you're lucky I found you and no one else, in face, you're just lucky I found you." Frowning softly, the man watched her push herself up and notice the dog. Of course she was frightened, he seldom came across a sane person who wasn't frightened of that gargantuan hellhound. "Yeah, that's a dog. He's not gonna hurt you." Sparky was a vicious creature, but he was inexplicably well behaved. If Hayate told him not to do something, he sure as hell wouldn't do it. At least not until he was asked to.

"Calm down and take a few deep breaths, if I were you, I'd rather take my chances with me than with that creature you just faced." But that had been hours ago, and Hayate didn't know what the time was now. "You'd think she'd be more grateful to someone that just stopped her throat being ripped out, huh, Sparks?" The dog let out a low growl as if agreeing with him, a hairless tail thumped rhythmically on the wooden floorboards. "What's your name, anyway?"

Leticia trembled for a momet, her sheep instincts urging her immediately to trust in this stranger and let him feed her. She wanted so desperately to follow him and believe in him as a leader, but her iron will as a human told her no, strangers are bad.
As the stranger went on, her pout deepened, her expression going from frustrated, to confused, and back to terrified. Letty pushed herself even further back into the bed, eyeing the spot where the creepy dog sat. The man said he wouldn't do anything, but with both an instinctual and learned fear pushing against her mind, the presence of the animal was incredibly difficult to ignore.

"I... I didn't ask to be rescued, anyway... I think it almost might have been nicer if that thing had just ... Done what he had set out to do... " Letty had gone into that forest not expecting to wake up still alive. In a way, she was grateful for the second chance, but still was more or less wanting to do it all over again. Except, in the opposite direction where the man had no hope of finding her in time. "I'm Leticia — who are you?" Before she had gone into that wood, she had been an angry, vile little thing. Emerging from what she had hoped would be her coffin, she had come out much milder, with a heavier, melancholy aura. Her fight with life had been lost in a very different way. She had been deprived of the right to off herself, and now was stuck in a stranger's home. A stranger who believed he had done the right thing. "Thank you, though. You were very brave for standing up to that thing."

Leticia wasn't the only one with ingrained animal instincts, and fear was a familiar scent to the dog boy. Turning his head and growling softly at the dog that lay on the rug behind him, he issued the animal a warning to leave, which he happily complied with, picking himself up and padding off toward the staircase that lay on one side of the room, his claws clicking against the wood as he descended. He scowled as the girl spoke again, her mind was in a bad place, he briefly wondered if that was the reason she'd put herself in so much danger in the first place. "Don't be stupid," the man answered, left ear twitching, "what? So he could not even know what he's done when he turns back into a damn human? Werewolves are disgusting. They deserve to be exterminated, all of them."

Hayate almost wanted to hug the girl, she was such a tiny creature, pretty too, at least, if he'd swung that way. Women weren't really Hayate's best interest though, he'd rather not have left her to die. "I'm Hayate, I'm a student at the school." At least, sometimes he was, other times he seldom bothered to even turn up. Why would he need to? He already had a steady job. He shrugged off the thanks, "don't mention it, it's my job. I didn't want to leave you to die. I've come across far worse than him."

Her heart squeezed a moment when the man growled, her heart racing as the dog stood itself up. She was solely focused on the animal, and let her breath rush out when it finally left. She listened to his claws click gently against the wooden floor, relaxing more and more as the bit of distance between them grew. Leticia dropped her head for a moment, a little put off by his words. She knew he was right, but really didn't want to admit it. Her heart still felt heavy, but she didn't think he would understand that. It didn't bother her too much that her attacker wouldn't feel repentance when he turned back into a human, and perhaps thought it nicer that he wouldn't have to deal with any guilty feelings.

"Oh! I'm a student, too. Or at least ... I was... I wonder if they all think I'm dead now." Or if they've even noticed. Her presence at the school hadn't been all that big, and she didn't even think her teachers knew her name. "Have you really? Like what kinds of things? Have you come across, I mean." Slowly, she was acclimating to her new environment, and to this new person. Her floppy lambs ears twitched for a moment as her head tilted to the side, a little curious in what he did for a living. Hayate had mentioned it was his job, but Letty had a bit of a hard time believing that saving girls in distress was his entire job.

That was true, tattered clothes had been left in the forest and Hayate suspected they were probably covered in blood. Perhaps it was better for Leticia to recover before she made any attempt to go back to school, Hayate wasn't a doctor, so maybe this wasn't the right place for her. Though her predicament didn't seem life threatening, atn least he didn't get his teeth on her... Had he? "Oh man you didn't get bitten, did you!?" He asked suddenly, taking her hand to fervently check her arm for blood, or bites. That would have been something awful to explain to the girl. Hey! Guess what! If the infection doesn't kill you, you'll turn into a werewolf!

He didn't think there were any bites though, the septicaemia would already have set in by now and she'd have a raging fever. He shrugged at her question, "lots of things. Werewolves, demons, zombies." A soft smile crossed his features, "you already met Sparky, I guess he helps sometimes. I'm an exterminator, if you like. I'll show you downstairs when you're feeling better." Although, that big white werewolf head on the wall above the counter perhaps wasn't the nicest thing to expose her to after her ordeal, at least this time it was definitely dead.

Her hand was siezed, and Leticia watched Hayate with alarm as he inspected her arm, holding out the other one to check it herself. She didn't feel like she had any bite marks on her-- maybe a few scratches and bruises here and there, but nothing that the werewolf had caused with his teeth.
Sitting quietly on Hayate's bed, Letty's eyes slowly grew wide at the man's hit list. Zombies exist? Her previous fear was starting to ebb away, and it was replaced by a bit of an curious affection for this stranger. He wasn't as scary as he looked, and her nose twitched as she gradually relaxed her body.

"You named him Sparky?" Letty blinked at that; She had expected more of a ... Actually scary name. Something a bit more impressive than just Sparky. An exterminator for the magical beasts of the island did make up for that lost impression, and Leticia's face lit up marginally. "I'd like that, I think. What sorts of weapons do you use? I think I'd like to learn how to do that, too. I'm not as brave as you are, though." The idea of being able to defend herself from any predators was a nice one. Being a sheep, she didn't have too many brave qualities, but she did definitely have a knack for sniffing out danger. "I'd like to be more like you. I ... I don't know you very well, but I admire you quite a bit."

You named him Sparky? Hayate cleared his throat softly, dropping her gaze and running a hand through his hair. "Well, guess it makes him a little less scary." That wasn't really all that true, when a huge, hairless dog with eyes the size of ping pong balls and a mouth full of too-large-teeth was charging at you, you didn't really care what it's name was. "I use a lot of weapons. Guns mostly. Those are my favourite." Though he thought perhaps even a little gun would do the tiny sheep girl awful damage, the recoil on some of them was enough to break a grown man's arm if you didn't know how to use it, and he certainly didn't want to think about what it might do to her.

The next thing she said took him off guard, blinking suddenly, and a blush creeping across his features, Hayate pouted softly and looked away from Leticia, focusing intently on a frayed part of the carpet instead. No one really ever told him things like that, then again he supposed he wasn't really around people all that much anyway. "I.. Thanks... I... Guess." He wasn't really that great, he wasn't a coward because he didn't have time to be scared of things, and if he didn't do it right then he'd die, or someone else would die, or at the very least he wouldn't get paid for it.
