Chloe made the offer before she realized why she was making it. And now, following a giant snake woman to her dorm with a book under her arm, she was trying to understand her own motivations.
Chloe could empathize with Corsalyn's situation. Stranded in another world away from almost everything she knew. Chloe knew what that was like. Corsalyn had it a lot worse, in a way. She didn't entirely understand what computers were, and she couldn't even read yet. These surroundings were unfamiliar to the snake woman.
She also realized that she was making up for an experience she couldn't share with Amber. The plan was for Chloe to read out loud to Corsalyn and let her follow along, just like how Chloe herself learned to read better with her parents. Amber had outgrown any need for that before they had even met. She was learning the historical context of Animal Farm before Chloe even realized there was something there to miss out on. And now, she would get to have something like that with Corsalyn.
Not that Chloe thought of Corsalyn like her daughter. That would make some of Chloe's other feelings about Corsalyn really weird and gross. She would wonder if she was trying to get into Corsalyn's pants, but giant snake ladies didn't wear those.
The book Chloe chose was about Ancient Greek myths. It was written at an elementary level, and illustrated, which Chloe thought would help. "So have you heard anything about Hercules or Zeus or the ancient Greek gods before?" She asked. She didn't know which of these doors led to Corsalyn's room.
