If there was one thing Luna should stop doing, it would be venturing out past midnight when she was practically blind save for a meter or two of vision. But alas, today seemed to be yet another instance where she decidedly acted upon her stupid whelm of adventure. Her destination: the rooftop. Though she hasn't heard much about the rooftop, it seemed that the view was magnificent to say the least and despite knowing that the only sight greeting her would be a pitch black abyss, she stubbornly headed there anyway.

Swinging the door outwards in a rough yet eager manner, she leisurely stepped out into the open, fully embracing the refreshing touch of the crisp night air. Although a few lamps illuminated the vicinity, to Luna, they were nothing but a dull, dying glow in the void of darkness encapsulating her. Whether the roof was deserted or occupied remained a mystery to her. Inhaling sharply, she then let a soft sigh escape her lips, her brows furrowing in confusion as she attempted to navigate this foreign land in search of the railing. At first, she was content to let time slip by whilst she blindly paced around but as seconds turned to minutes, impatience began to soil itself at the pit of her gut, coiling around her as if it were a serpent waiting to strike. Rhythmic footsteps halted. Luna collapsed onto the floor, crossing her legs in a fit of fury as her resolve vanished into thin air. Voice dropping to a low growl, she let her pent up frustration seep into her otherwise clipped tone as she muttered to herself.

"It do be like that sometimes."

Jack leaned against the railing at the edge of the roof. As far as he could tell, he was the only one outside except for a few security guards. He knew how late it was, but had been unusually restless, and decided that he wanted some night air.

A close noise broke him from his reverie, causing him to turn around. A girl had come onto the rooftop. Jack watched her for a second and then turned his attention back to the world.

However, a few minutes later, he heard another noise. The same girl had fallen to the ground and crossed her legs. Jack had been planning to leave her alone, but his curiosity and concern pushed him to approach. He walked towards her with quiet steps and stopped a few feet away. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, his voice quiet.

Just moments after she silently moped on the ground, she heard a male voice call out to her as he stepped into her limited circle of vision. Pressing her palm onto the floor, she utilized it as a pivot to spin round whilst she swiftly stood back on her feet. Locking her gaze on the newcomer, she allowed her expression to remain apathetic whilst she observed the figure before her. Eventually, she released the pent up tension in her stance and resumed a relaxed posture with her arms swinging down to rest idly by her side. Upon realizing she had maintained her silence for a moment too long, she quickly spoke, her tone languid but her voice containing slightest hint of surprise.

“Yes, I am fine. Thank you for asking. I didn’t know there would be others here at this hour.”

Should the other pay attention, he might have been able to catch the tinge of red coloring her cheeks as she internally struggled to regain her composure from the embarrassing outburst earlier. Taking a single step forward to close the awkward distance between them, Luna then placed both hands in front of her, pressing the hem of her dress down as she gave him a bow in greeting. “My name’s Luna. I suppose I just got a little lost trying to find the railings, could you perhaps lead me to them?”

As Jack waited for her response, he noticed that her body was glowing. Not only that, but her cheeks were slightly tinted red. He assumed that it was a byproduct of one of her powers.

"Ah.... I couldn't sleep, so I was getting some fresh air," he explained.

He had to resist the urge to step back when she took a step forward. She introduced herself as Luna. He hadn't heard of such a name, and decided that he quite liked it.

Jack was confused when he heard her concern. How could she not see the railings when they were on the entire perimeter of the roof? However, the realization soon came to him. "Are you, uh, blind?" he asked. "No, obviously you're not blind if you're looking at me now. And if you got to the roof. Duh. Um, here, just follow me. I'm Jack, uh, if you wanted to know."

Whilst listening to the other stutter slightly as he attempted to talk to her, Luna allowed the edges of her lips subtlety curve upwards into an amused smile. It was definitely reassuring to know that there were others who, much like herself, weren’t the smoothest in interacting with others. Luna simply gave a slight nod in response, following the other for a few silent beats as she rummaged her mind for an appropriate reply.

“You are right, I am not completely blind, however, at low visibility my vision is greatly handicapped.” Pausing, she made a small gesture, her fingers smoothly sweeping through chill night air as they pointed toward the edge of glow’s illumination. Lightly exhaling, her expression morphed back into one of nonchalance before she continued. “I am unable to see past my glow. It’s a weakness derived from my light based powers.” After a few more wordless paces, Luna then stilled herself, lightly tapping the other on the shoulder as she spoke, her voice coming across in its usual composed and poised manner.

“Speaking of which, what is your power?”

So she wasn't completely blind. He had once met a person with partial blindness, but these were obviously completely different circumstances... or, at least, he assumed the person he had met before didn't have some kind of powers.

When Luna asked what his power was, he realized that he also had a weakness that came from it. "I can, uh, cover myself in this black substance that's really tough," he said. To demonstrate, he inhaled a large amount of air and slightly tensed the muscles in his legs and arms. In less than a second, the glossy coating covered his entire body.

He left the coating on his body for about ten seconds before retracting it. "Sorry, I can't breathe when I'm in that form," he said. "I can't do it for too long." That was a lie. He could hold his breath for a minute and thirty seconds when he wasn't moving, but he didn't want to just stand there, being examined.

"Oh, I can also do this," Jack said. He launched himself into the air, a whole twenty-five feet. When he reached his apex and started falling, he grabbed a quarter from his pocket and used it to stop himself just before he hit the roof again, landing safely. "I can sort of bounce off of anything I touch," he said, "as well as stop suddenly if I'm moving too fast."

Luna watched with a benevolent expression as he displayed his powers, a glint of predatory instinct shimmering in the depths of her gaze barely masked by her amused smile. Truly, it was fascinating; his powers were so unique and different, just the thought of thinking of how to counter them in a duel already brought forth unparalleled euphoria. Instilling her newly devised strategy into her instinctive dance of battle, drilled into her from years of relentless training, would definitely be exhilarating, however, Luna harshly reminded herself that now was not the time for that. Letting out a slow exhale to calm herself, she forcefully derailed her train of thought and brought her mind back to the present situation.

"That", she began, taking her time to address the other in a chilled manner. "Is absolutely marvelous. As for my own..." Stepping back, Luna stilled herself, focussing on the threads of light in the vicinity and like a seamstress at a loom, she tugged at the strings, weaving them together profoundly into a sphere of white which manifested itself atop the palm of her open hand. "This is as much as I can show you whilst in the dark for most of my magical abilities either require a higher light intensity or result in damage." Quicker than a flash of lightning, the sphere of light vanished into thin air as she clasped her hands together, a sharp clap shattering the short silence.

"Well, I hope you don't mind me asking but how often do you train? Perhaps we could share some tips."

Jack hadn't interacted with many students at the school, and the ones he did interact with never asked what kind of power he had. No one had ever called his power "marvelous". Although he didn't really think of it that way himself, he appreciated the compliment.

When Luna showed Jack her power, he had to do a double take. He thought that his eyes were playing tricks on him when she started moving beams of light and weaved them into a small white ball that sat on her palm. He could only imagine what she would be able to do when it wasn't dark. "That's amazing," was all he said, not really knowing what else to add.

When the subject of training was brought up, Jack tensed up. Ever since coming to the island, he kept telling himself that he should train more, but never really got around to it. He didn't see any real need for it, although he knew that was a bad kindest to have, as there could be need for it in the future.

He didn't say all that to Luna. Instead, he rubbed the back of his neck and said "I, uh, don't really train all that much. The last time I did some actual training was a few weeks ago."

Luna noticed the slight hesitation, the tip brow quirking upwards at the sight, however, she paid it little mind; perhaps there were students who weren't fond of combat and didn't require to train as often as she did. Despite coming to this rather shallow conclusion, she couldn't help but inquire further. Stepping forward, she tilted her chin upwards, locking her gaze on the other before addressing him.

"I take it you aren't much of a fighter then."

Though her sentence came off sounding a little too rude to Luna's liking, she didn't know how else to put it. After all, neglecting one's responsibilities was not something which she could let slide under her knowledge. That being said, a lecture would definitely be much too uncalled for and inappropriate. At this juncture, she quickly raised her hands in apology, her glow dimming ever so slightly; if she were rude, at least she should apologize for it.

"I'm sorry, that phrasing was very blunt. It's just that training has been my sole purpose until I came to starlight Academy; meeting people who aren't accustomed to fighting is something I have yet to get used to."

This time, when Luna stepped forward, Jack did actually step back. He was slightly intimidated by the gaze that fell upon him.

He shook his head. "No, you weren't being blunt," he said. "You're right. I'm not a fighter. I was actually given these powers by a random person, like, two months ago. I don't really know if I'm supposed to do anything with it, but... I don't know. Maybe I'm just making excuses."

Jack hadn't thought much of fighting with powers. The idea of professional fighters gaining powers and becoming even better was unfathomable. That's why he was so surprised when Luna said that training had been her sole purpose." Wow," he said. "You must be so much stronger than me...."
