Octain woke up feeling cold all over. His body not reacting to any movements what so ever. His eyes slowly opening as he slowly began feeling nothing but pain and agony all over. A loud gasp came out from him as it took all of his will to move his hands. His fingers gripping the sheets tight as he noticed that he was in a hospital room. Hearing the sound of his heart monitor racing as he tried to figure out what was going on. Where he was.

"Where... hospital?... Genesis...."

Was his only thoughts. He felt cold and alone. As he rubbed his eyes. Hearing someone come in. It was a doctor trying. Holding Octain down as Octain began to speak in a tongue not known to him. trying to cast spells but his spellbook wasn't with him. It felt like it was close. Yet in someone elses hands. Or embrace. All his work was in someone elses hands... This was bad.

"SIR YOU MUST REMAIN CALM." The doctor shouted. "You are in a hospital. You are safe. You were brought in by a man naming himself 'Aurum' said you had lost your way and he saved you on request of your daughter."

Eventually Octain calmed down. His voice slowly turned to common in most tongues.

"My book?"

"Your assistant has it.."

"Good.."

He said as he slowly sat up. A jolt of pain escalated through his body like a wave on a beach. The Doctor then walked out. Letting the nurse know that he was awake and was allowed ONE visitor. Then walked off.

Octain's body red almost all over in hospital clothes. Something to keep him warm. Though inside he was cold. The bruises and burns of the cold he had injured as he head was in pain.

Recalling leaving his cloak for Genesis when he found her asleep. Then walking...

Through a snow storm.. Freezing.. His vision faded to a blur from what he remembered. Everything else was just... Dark. Nothing special. Just.. Dark. He could hear his name but that was it. By the time he woke up it was spring. Seeing the trees outside just starting the bloom as the flowers were coming out as well. his eyes looking out the window. his eyes looking at the life that has been brought to his world. The world he lives in and loves.

"spring came.. Fast.. I must have been out for a few months.."

When he heard knocking on his door.

"Enter.." he said. Still looking outside the window.

She had made a horrible decision. Even worse was just how long it took her to realize she did.

Every winter it was the same thing. She could bet on it. Even if she stayed in one spot for the rest of the year, by the time that the first leaf had started to turn from vibrant green to orange it was time to prepare to move on. Last autumn was not unlike any other. She would see to her departure and follow suit. For reasons very secret, and very personal. With no attachments whatsoever. But this... This was different. She wasn't used to having regrets. She wasn't used to leaving something she actually cared about. A job, an opportunity, a man and his daughter... All of that she relinquished for her highest held secret. Of course, she didn't outright abandon her life she established. She tried to cushion the blow slowly and surely by leaving little hints. All of it was perfectly planned. Like becoming more distant. Not showing up to work or showing up late despite her prior perfect record. Moving things out of her office. Such aspects were minute, but when totaling it all together it cumulated to the enormous problem that faced her today. Like a snowball running down a hill, cultivating into a horrendous mass capable of destruction. And even as winter came as it did.... It wouldn't melt.

But rather than ignore it and let it go about its business she saw that she couldn't turn a cheek. Because unlike her, it appeared someone else care that the snowball would tumble out of control. Because it was his. And she was his.

Nothing said this more than the cloak draped so lightly over her shoulders.

When she woke up from her hibernation of sorts she had found it on her. So instead of moving forward with her life... She went back. And when she got there he wasn't at his post. His friendly masked face wasn't in his office.

He was in the hospital. Because of her.

Now in front of the door, her hand softly raised and hesitated in front. She breathed, before closing her eyes. This was going to be far more difficult to accomplish.

Just one tap led to a cryptic voice beckoning her in. With that her hand traced over the handle. Pushing it down, before opening it. Standing in the small opening. Muttering one simple thing.

”Professor?”

Octain had been in the hospital for a while from what he gathered. Long enough that even Lexi must have known and Kimiko was looking after her. he was worried about her as he clenched his fist. He felt like...

He did the right thing though. Giving up something to ensure someone he cared about was safe. That she would be happy. That she was.. Warm at night. As he closed his eyes. A pain running through his body as he moved his head.

His mask. Cracked and almost falling apart. Leaving hints of the man with in. As it also appeared that small chips were missing from it. As if someone had tried to remove it forcefully. Failing horribly as it was still on his face. as he looked at the Door when he heard it open. It was Genesis. His eyes opened a bit more. She.. Was here.. He had thought he would have lost her for good.. Octain had many secrets but the idea raced in his head that.. She didn't want to see him anymore.

"Genesis..." He said in a hush tone. His body looked far worse than he put on. His body once a nice tanned color was now a vibrant red. Marked from the winter that had just passed. His body still in pain as his eyes were having trouble blinking a bit. "You are.. A welcomed sight for my eyes.. Glad tidings that you are alright.."

He said with a bit of a smile moving his body to try to get out to greet her properly with at least a handshake. That turned into a slight pain as his head launched back slightly. Leaning back in his upright position as his pain was slightly apparent. As he leaned back on the pillows.

"Please.. Come in. Take a seat and stay awhile.." He said. He was worried for her when she left. He spent days searching for her. What felt like days of unrest that she just left. "Please Genesis.. Address me by my name.. We are.. Not in the school.. Unless.. That's all yo-"

He stopped as the sound of cracking could be heard on his mask. It echoed in the room as he moved his head to look out the window to see his mask. He looked like he did one fateful day in his past.

Genesis opened the door. Slowly, and more hesitantly, as to get everything in without overwhelming herself. It was too much… Thinking about what she did, and the reason why he was here. This was all her fault. She breathed deeply as she fully revealed herself, closing the door behind her. And what was revealed to her…

Her heart sank. Her hands folded nervously in front of her as she looked at Professor Octain’s body. Broken, like his mask. She took off the robe as she approached his bedside. Her hands twisting it before one reached up to brush her now pink hair from her face. Too many thoughts were running through her head. This was too much….

”S-Sire please… Stay still.. Do not hurt yourself...” She backed up a bit, to give him space. She did not want to coerce him to hurt himself any further. Especially not for her. He looked awful. And if it hadn’t been for whoever had taken him here, he would have been dead.

Her feet took her to a chair, not too far away from his bedside. She crossed her legs and folded her hands over her knees. Trying to keep back that awful feeling of guilt as she looked upon his broken body, though ultimately kept her gaze on his eyes. It was rude to stare, after all. ”I am happy to see you as well… I wish that you were in the same state as I...” She sighed, before looking down. It was a true rarity that she didn’t make proper eye contact in formal scenarios. ”Is there anything I can assist you with at all? Do you have something you need sire?”

Genesis didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t fix this. Maybe he would get better but… It had been months. And he was in the exact same condition as he was then.

”Please… Forgive me...”

When Genesis called out to him not to hurt himself. He was already in pain what was a little more as he watched her sit down. His eyes looked at her. "Sorry.. I just wish I could stand to greet you proper." He said. Turning his gaze to her eyes. Looking at his cloak that she had.

When she sat down she almost was in arms reach if he tried hard enough to touch her. She was so close. Her eyes. Her hair.. Her face. Octain felt no guilt. Nor did he feel any regret for what he did. She was safe and sound. She was back. "Genesis. I'm just happy you have returned and allowed me to see you again." his eyes close a bit for a moment. It still hurt a bit to close them. The the warmth of pain slowly died down in his body. Feeling a warmth of happiness. "My Fair Lady.. All I require is a smile upon your face. Please allow me to gaze upon your beautiful smile while the sun is out."

Octain moves slightly. A small wince turned into echoes of pain inside. Like a ripple in a quiet pond. Though slowly he reached his hand out softly placing it on her hands.

"There.. Is nothing to forgive. When you walked through that door. I had already forgiven you.
" He said as he attempted to tighten his grip on hands "I was.. Worried when you became distant. Started to take things out from your desk and work space. i worried that.. You had no longer wanted to be around."

”It's quite alright pro- Octain. Please, do not strain yourself...”

Her deep blue eyes traced over his body. She wanted to almost shield them from the horror that was her own doing. But... She couldn't. She had to live with this responsibility. He already had forgiven her... But did she forgive herself? Of course not. She knew she didn't deserve him. His kindness, his patience... His personality was more of a rarity than Genesis' entire species.

And yet...

She couldn't even follow his simple request- showing smile of hers that would be accentuated by the dawn break, which was now pouring through the room like golden trickles between the linen curtains. Instead, she looked away. Her delicate fingers tracing the intricate marking on her cheek and temple. What was there to smile about? Yes... Octain was safe. He was alive and the fates had been kind to his existence. But if it wasn't for her he wouldn't be in such agony. The thread his soul was perched upon wouldn't be frayed by the scissors itching to cut it. This was beyond guilt- this was dishonor.

Before her mind could delve into even darker thoughts the professor wrapped his hand around hers. For a moment, her own was limp. Unresponsive as he relayed upon his doubts and sorrows, of the worries she created. Following his words, she squeezed once... And let go. Her hand sliding from his prior to standing up and turning away. A soft 'I'm sorry' muttering through her lips. She went towards the window to open it up, before looking out upon it. Her eyes closed. ”I suppose now that you know just why I left...” She sighed. Guilt was laden in her voice. ”You know my secret, is that correct?”

".. That was the first time you said my 'name'."

Octain said. His heart almost melted. He felt.. Warmer than normal. His skin. Which was still red had patches of it returning to it's original color. Genesis.. He was hers. He knew it.. The fates had known it as he looked up at her. She looked.. Like she couldn't forgive herself. For what she had done to him. His other hand grasping the bed as he could now feel the nerves grabbing the bed. He had started to feel whole again.

He felt her grab his hand. her soft hands.. Those beautiful hands as she stood up and looked away from him. Octain only said one thing. "Genesis.."

She wouldn't smile.. She couldn't. With the pent up guilt inside of her he may have asked for too much too fast. he just.. Wanted her to be happy.

Before he attempted to reach for her hand once more. No. It wouldn't end like this. Octain needed her by his side.. No matter what. He tried to reach a little farther before sighing. Not giving up something he held dearly. So close to his heart.

"I understand why you left.. I.. Can see why you had wanted to leave. I understood your body changed with the seasons but.. You did it to protect yourself." As she went to the window. Standing at the foot of his bed as he looked over at her. "Your secret is safe Genesis. I'm sorry I had done what I did. I just.." He then looked down at his hands. Botches of white were appearing. Like he was recovering from a sunburn slowly. Whispering lightly. ".. I want you in my life. I don't want to lose you.."

"I-.. Had gone to the office on the first snowfall. To tell you something but by the time I had arrived. Everything was gone. You were gone. I.. Thought you had clued in and didn't want to see me." He said. Whispering lightly as he sat up. Not groaning this time. he was starting to feel a lot better today. Though some pains were going to need to be dealt with later.

"Genesis.. I want you to look at me. Please.. My turn to show you me.."

He said as he placed his red hand, which had blotches of white on it as he slowly removed his mask. His face white and untouched by the winters grasp on him. His face as handsome fit for a prince. his hazel eyes looked at Genesis. handing the mask out to her for her to hold. His original stubble now looked more like a beard at this point as he stared at her. A scar running down from the top left of his face to the bottom right as he gulped a bit.

"My name is Orais Octavius. Octain.. Is the name I go by of the mask. My nickname as it were. This.. Is my secret. The man behind the mask. The real Magister. The same person. This is my secret. Who I am. The man under.. The face behind Octain. The one we both are. I have shown no one my face. You are the first since I had made my own way into this world." He said. hoping she would take the mask from him. If she did. It would heal in her hands. Cracks becoming whole. Chips magically restored.

"I did this to myself.. I let my feelings for you get the better of me.. I.. guess the cats out of the bag on this one. There was something I wanted to tell you. That I needed to ask." He said a little flustered. Now. His true emotions guided this meeting. No mask. No more hiding. No more running away.

"Genesis.. There was something I wanted to say to you on the day you vanished.. Will.. You listen?"

She kept her back turned. Turned to the only thing she trusted- Nature. She wanted to believe in more people. But as she was raised, the world in which she lived in was her true master. She put her hand over the window. Watching the tulips bloom and the dawn cause the dew on the petals to glimmer. She closed her eyes. The markings on her hands slowly began to crawl up her arms.

She heard his words. Let every single one seep into her mind. It wasn't like she was ignoring him, but could she face him? After all she had done? It was... Hard. And she was beginning to sense what he had for her. Something she was so blind to prior was starting to come into clarity. He really did.... No... Did she even want to say the word? ”Octain please...” She whispered, but cut herself off as he kept talking. Even still, she wasn't sure what to say. She just didn't know how to fix things with herself and him.

Especially when he admitted that he needed her.

With that, she turned back around. Her sharp features softened by his words. Her pale pink hair was pushed up by her slender fingers. Once more, she trailed to his bedside. Still refusing eye contact, of course. ”I am so sorry I did not say goodbye.... It was so very, very wrong of me I-” Cut off by her own will to listen once more. She knew she should have said something. To him, her professor. Not just because he was her employer, but her friend. And perhaps much more than that. Right now though, she felt no better than a dog feeling guilty of their actions. Her hands moved to cover her face...

Only to let go moments later when he too came out into the open.

She lowered her hands down her cheeks
as he beckoned her to look into his face once more. Except this time, by face... It would be his real one. Not guised by some mask. Genesis was frozen for a moment. Unable to cope with the idea that was to follow. He wasn't... No... ”Sire please-” But it was too late. His hand had already moved to remove the mask, the only face she had ever known. Her eyes traced to the hand where the mask was to take it delicately in her hands. Only to trace up his arm, to his one true face.

”Octain...”

She found her blue gaze on his features. His strong jawline. His orange... No, hazel eyes. The scar, the hair, his... Smile. Genesis stood there, almost like a deer in headlights. The blush returned. The markings on her hands grew. ”I-I...” She was speechless. Positively breathless. His face... She couldn't unsee it. This was him. This was... Her Magistar.

”Octain- Ah, Orais...” She bowed her head, delicately placing a hand on her chest. ”Thank you... Thank you for sharing this secret with me. I promise it will be safe I...”

But there was one more secret.

”I.... I promise.”

Orais looked at Genesis when she was blushing. He honestly loved it when she did. Though this time. She could see him blush as well. He just looked at her. Felt her hand on his face as he slowly moved a hand to place it on hers. holding it. He... Loved this feeling. He knew that she had placed her hand on his mask before when it was scuffed a bit. This was her hand.. Her soft tender hand on his face. He felt.. Calm. Safe.. Serene.

When she said his name. His heart skipped a bit. The gold lines on his mask helped brighten up the room with a radiant gold shimmer into the room. Looking at the mask for a moment. It was a part of his heart after all. It just went to show how he felt for her. What she could do.

He had a bright smile on his face. One that he had not had on his face for years. For decades even. Not since before he was on his own. Not since the accident. Not since the purge.

"Genesis.. I am not sure how to say this, but I feel.. A great emotion bond between us. That kept us close, working so well together. Enjoying the time I have been granted with you. I-... Cannot explain this. I feel in such a way I have never before. I count every day you are in the same room as I. That we share the same space. That I get to hear your voice. See your smile.. I wish of you. To join me one night once I am able to do so. To join me for a night.. Join me for Dinner as well as see a play. Genesis.. My fair lady. I-.." His voice stopped for a moment. Trying to find the words to say.

JUST SAY IT ORAIS

Went through his mind. Trying to say the next words. He knew he wanted to say the words. they just couldn't form. Until he looked into Genesis' eyes. Feeling the pain go away. Feeling his heart beat faster.

"I love you."

He said then moving his head to look away to gaze out the window. Watching the wind blow the blooming flowers. The leaves on the trees. Taking a moment to recollect himself.

"I... Would understand if you do not wish to. Or that I am misreading the situation. I just required to get that off my chest. I once sent you an anonymous letter and flowers. Twas a gesture to see where we stood. Though it was during when you started to become distant."

He looked over at her once more. Moving a hand to place it on the one that held his mask.

"Genesis.. I-" He stopped himself. He spoke enough. Right now. It was his time to listen. His time to see what she had to say.

No more running.

Genesis realized in that moment that the only reason she was a nomad was for selfish purposes. For the longest time, she told herself that she was only looking out for her people. She was the beacon of hope for them. Now... Now that wasn't so much. Her feet took her wherever the north wind blew, just as the first frost would crisp the grass. She never stood in one place long enough to find out a solution to bring honor to her clan. Because, she didn't want to be discovered. She didn't want to appear monstrous to the people she encountered.

She didn't want to be ugly.

And now... Now she was coming to terms with the most vile thing about her. Her intentions. Falsely pure and vainly cast. Even as she finally found a clue to her persona, she attempted to leave it all behind.

But why...?

Why did her reputation matter more than the security of her people? It... It didn't! That's not why! She just... Well...

She just found someone who was worth staying with.

A person who deserved more than what she was during the coldest quarter of the year.

She looked down as he spoke. But that didn't mean she want listening. In fact, more than ever, her ears were on his voice. Clinging to every word he said as she already began to form clues as to what he wanted to say to her. Knowing that this... This could change everything.

And it did.

She could feel the pulse in his fingertips. His beating heart caressed her skin as his words strung together in such discorded cadence. Tactful, yet confused. Which fortunately put the two on the same level of comprehension. What was this feeling...?! This warmth, this desire, this... This sense of...

Home.

He was her home.

I love you.

The air was silent. Her gaze in a mist. The birds chirped outside as a gentle breeze blew through her pink-splashed hair. Becoming more cherry-blossom in the breeze. Just as the markings traced her face and hands. Just as her skin tightened even more.

It was spring.

It was a new beginning.

Her new beginning.

For real, this time.

Her breath baited.

Her chest rose in an inhale.

Her lips parted.

And all that came out was a whisper.

”I love you, too.”
