The coffee was boiling, the pizza was cooking, and Luna was relaxing on the couch waiting for them both to finish. It was a bit later in the afternoon, but who cares if it's too late for coffee right? She was tired as all hell from staying up late, and she certainly didn't want to sleep so early or her sleeping schedule would screw up even more. It didn't help that she was hungry.

On cue, Luna's stomach growled loudly. Goddammit...

Luckily she was home alone this time. Her roommate was out again, probably drinking their life away. Luna had received a few texts from her friend Nix, but she wasn't expecting him to come over. The house was quite, minus a quiet bubbling from the coffee machine.

"Of all people, why me? Seriously..." Luna asked herself, holding the kind of worn Valentine she had received a bit ago. She knew who it came from, but she wasn't sure of...well, many things. But mostly Luna was worried that she didn't belong enough to have deserved such...attention. Care.

Luna leaned back on the couch, laying her head on the back pillows and sighed. She closed her eyes and blocked out everything, hoping to get rid of the damn thoughts going through her head.

Life was good.
Well, okay, kinda.
Nix was currently making an ass of himself on the couch, which was to say he was laying on it carelessly, phone in one hand and coffee on the coffee table nearby. Since Havoc was busy, he had been real lazy - a pile of papers waited for him in his school duffel, and though it wasn't that bad he was getting really bored. The time stamp on his last message read 2:38 PM.
It'd been an hour and a half since.
He sighed, rolling back on his back to face the ceiling, and looked back to his phone. No new messages.
Okay, so maybe life wasn't that good. But whatever, right? The way he saw it, Luna might just have been in the shower or going shopping or whatever girls like Luna did on their off time. Amelia did loads of shit like that.
Hhhh.
"Maybe I shouldn't've sent that Valentine last month," the redhead mused aloud, to absolutely no one's ears. "I mean, fuck. Now I look like some kinda creep."
His inner 'him' wasted no time pouncing on that tidbit.
Wow, so desperate to have someone like you! What do you get for that - some sort of medal? Impresssive.
He shook his head vehemently and, before he knew it, he was up and had his coat on, stuffing his feet into his shoes and grabbing his phone, wrenching the handle open. Nix was NOT up for this shit today.
The door slammed, almost on its own, and it took him a full minute to realize that he wasn't fully sure where he was going. All that mattered was a place where he wasn't alone.
It didn't surprise him that he ended up at what he hoped was Luna's door.
Knock, knock.

Luna practically jumped out of her stupor at the knock at her door, and stood up so fast that she nearly fell back again. How long was she laying there..? An hour? It sure felt like a while, if her cramped neck was any evidence.

Still in a daze, and with Valentine card still in hand, she went to the door and checked the eye-hole. Had she imagined the knock in her sleep? Well...no. In fact, Nix was standing at the door. That was odd...Even more so since he had this...somber look on his face. Had something happened?

She opened the door slowly. "Nix..? Whaddya doin' here? You alright?"

Luna opened the door a little more, inviting him inside.

"You can sit down on the couch if you want. I have some coffee that probably finished brewing if you'd like some of that."

As soon as he saw the door open a crack, his somber expression vanished, to be replaced with what he hoped was his usual snarky grin. As usual, he was ready for a comeback.
"This is usually the part where you go, 'Who's there?'," he said, leaning against the wall too casually with that smarmy little grin. Except it went on for about 30 seconds.
"I mean I'd love some coffee thanks," Nix rushed through the sentence, hurrying inside. It wasn't what he thought it'd be - it was a bit bigger than he thought, and much tidier than his house - but it was good. Taking a lay of the land (or more accurately, of what looked to be the living room), he kinda just... stood there, for a second, before sitting carefully on the couch.
"Nice place you got here. I was just bored and walking up the street," he said, lying through his teeth. "And I just ended up here. I mean, it might be because my coffee sense started tingling, but ehh. Ya never know."
Come on, pleaaaaseeee laugh.

Luna smiled nervously, kinda worried by his sudden change of mood. As Nix walked in, she noticed that he was slightly hunched over, as if he wanted to hide a little. It was so faint she thought she imagined it so she thought it best to brush that bit off.

She laughed at his little joke. "I'm glad you like my little abode. I'll definitely get some coffee ready for the two of us then!"

Luna went into her little kitchen and started pouring coffee into little mugs. One had little hearts on it, and the other was just a plain blue color. As she was mixing the creamer and syrup to both their favorite flavors, she looked toward Nix to see him facing away from her on the couch. She sighed and got back to mixing.

"Hopefully you like my home brew. It's certainly not professional like our coffee shop's version but it's somethin' right? Haha."

Luna brought over the mugs and handed the hearty mug to Nix and sat down next to him with her own cup.

For a few more minutes, he was lost in thought, staring straight in front of him. He'd been out the door so quickly, so abruptly, that he hadn't given himself any time to really think about what he was doing. Actually, he was pretty sure that just barging into his friend's house was kinda a dick move... But he had to get out of that dorm. Otherwise...
His mind-self was quiet, for now - he didn't dare break the promise of coffee by being weird and wishy-washy. Even so, Nix could tell that, since nothing had been planned, he'd surprised Luna and gone into her house.
What a douche...
He snapped himself out of it just in time, as Luna headed over with a sigh and two little mugs of coffee. One with little hearts on it, and one just plain blue. He had to admit, that was kinda cute. The hearty one smelled the most vanilla-y - so he assumed that was his, leaving the plain blue one as the mocha she liked so much.
He was right - she handed him the hearty mug, and kept the robin's-egg blue for herself. Taking the handle of it gingerly, he took a sip. Nice and steamy. Creamy, but he wasn't about to argue with that. IT was pretty good.
"Uh, yeah. It's pretty good." The weirdest smile - half-cocky and half-shy - spread across his lips. The gaze screamed AM AWKWARD HELP.
Instead, it came out as: "Soooooooooo.... uhhhhhhh... how's uh. How've you, um, been?"

She was glad he liked it. Luna smiled nervously at Nix and put her cup down on the coffee table in front of the couch after a few sips.

Luna breathed in sharply and replied, "I'm glad you like it."

The floor was oddly entertaining right then. She really wasn't sure what to say. His sudden appearance was not only surprising, but it was worrisome....Weeeell, if he had come in a more cheery mood it wouldn't be that concerning. Just...Nix didn't seem very happy. Something seemed to be on his mind, but Luna really didn't want to push it. He was essentially her only friend at the moment, and she didn't want to scare him off by pressing into his life too harshly. His gaze was especially concerning...

She looked up at the ceiling and thought for a moment. "Eh, it's been a bit stressful lately. My previous client kept giving me random details about what I was supposed to be doing and they kept changing their mind about those details. The plus side of that is they paid for my lunches outside of my work pay. I think maybe they understood how stressful that line of work was...which I definitely appreciate."

Luna took a quick breather before continuing. "Anyway, what about you? You doing alright?"

She picked up her coffee mug again and took a few more sips.

"Yeah," Nix nodded, visibly relaxing. His shoulders dropped a little bit, and he held his coffee a bit more comfortably. "I'm doin' alright. School's been... well school. Li's been okay, I think - she's my sister by the way, don't think you've met her yet..? She's started her makeup thing or whatever... uh.... I've just been chilling in a dorm alone for the past few days. Uh... yeah. I think that's it? I was just tired of being bored in the same damn room all day. There's only so much coffee you can drink alone until you look like some desperate fuck, ahaha. "
He took another sip from his coffee, exhaled some more tension, then leaned back, head lying back on the back of the couch. The position seemed to exude relaxation, though he didn't know why he was relaxing so much around her.
"Though, being honest... it kinda sucks when you have no one to talk to. You go stir-crazy - and since I'm out of a job right now I'm kinda just there. So.... yeah. Bored."
Absentmindedly, he began to tap his mug with his middle finger aimlessly.
"Freelance work seems hard, though. I mean if you get a dickish boss, then that's stupid... but hey. If you need free lunch, you know who to call, am I right?"
Cue a slight smirk.

Luna giggled at Nix's flirtatiousness. She was starting to get used to it, and honestly she kind of liked it. It made her feel appreciated.

"Heh, I don't think I've met your sister. To be honest, I don't think I have many people to talk to either. Right now I kind of feel like, 'the more the merrier' you know? Well...maybe not too much."

She pulled off a soft smile and continued with a smirk, "I'd be happy to take you up on that free lunch offer anytime buddy."

Luna was still debating on if she should reply to Nix's little Valentine card. She watched him tap the little heart mug he was drinking from, kind of spacing out. Luna definitely cared for Nix, more than she would like to admit. She's kind of like that with everybody. But here, she realized that Nix could be one of her only understanding friends. However random he is, however flirty he is, Luna treasures that. It was clear he wasn't happy right now, and so Luna wanted to try and cheer him up.

"It'd be awesome to have you live here but...I'm not so sure about the current occupant," cue a wink. Luna took the last sip of her drink and put the mug down on the coffee table in front of them both.

How about a bit of teasing? "Hmm...I've been debating on whether or not I should offer to play a fighting game with you, but I'm not too sure if you could handle my skill," Luna said whilst crossing her arms behind her head, leaning back on the couch.

"Oh, man. You've GOTTA meet Li. My sister's legit the sweetest chick on the planet. Bet you'd be fast friends. Well I mean, she's like that with everybody, but i feel like you guys would be true fast friends and not just fast acquaintances, like most people seem to be. Think you guys have a lot in comon, like the way you're nice to me and help me out and - uh, hang on."
Ooops, little mind-ramble there. Nix shook his head vigorously, which, to be real, looked really silly on it's own: the fact that his hot coffee spilt on his toe and made him jerk his foot up in the air made it even goofier.
"Ahem. Um. Yeah." Who cared that his toe was hot now? Not him, because he'd gotten a lunch with Luna! He wouldn't be alone after class Tuesday!!

He cleared his throat. "Living here? Yeah, it'd be pretty sweet, but I'm all set up in my dorrrm- " he made sure to exaggerate the 'r' - "so I'm good for that. Besides, you wouldn't be able to stand how pro I am at Ginga Naiden." He crossed his arms and was just about to list out his stats in the highest game he'd got when Luna proposed... a challenge.

Almost cartoonishly, he put down his coffee, stood, and brought a hand to his chest, dropping his jaw in mock shock.

"YOU? Beat ME? Ah, how naive!" in a tone that was so obviously modeled after the villain's voice in the game. He was pretty sure that the villain said something like that in the end... though he'd never reached it before. Being in classes at Starlight was hard, okay??

"I'd love to see you trryyyyyyy."

With a devious grin, he hunched over, casting a swift glance at the tv area to spot the console.
