'Oh, you clever bastards,' she'd snicker to herself as the giant spider turned into a girl, and the man simply stood out there like nothing happened. She should have done a simple ambush instead, cut his throat while he wasn't looking. She could hardly move, but her ears were burning at how these two just played the fools that came late. She couldn't believe the others bought it too. But what did that other girl say? She was in their custody now? Stop killing people? Well who was she to order her around like that? Typical, really. The two took her somewhere she couldn't quite make out and put her on a couch. A dark, unmarked place that no one probably cared about? 'Not this time.' She was trying to get her body to work again, trying to move something in hopes she could break out of this paralysis quickly. Outwards, she looked panicked, as soon as her face could show emotion, that is. She could tell that they didn't bother to tie her up, but she could barely move any of her limbs. With a toxic bit of local cursing, she began berating the woman in the room, her speech slurred. "You're sick. Taking a passed out girl and convincing people you knew her. Not the first time you've done it, right?" Her voice was harsh, seething with a barely-contained anger. "GET IT OVER WITH SO I CAN KILL YOU ALL!"

Aranea took a deep breath and set her book aside. She took a second to gather her thoughts. This was not exactly how she expected this to go. Especially not with this girl calling her sick. The serial killer called them sick. Hah.

"Actually, this is my first time doing this kind of sting operation. We usually don't work like this, and I don't like it either. You're just a pretty unusual case."

Aranea pulled her chair closer and leaned in. "Also, we're not going to hurt you. So, what is it you wanted us to get over with?"

Red recoiled as the woman came closer before giving her a death glare. "'We're not going to hurt you,'" she repeated in a mocking manner. "What's next? 'We'll make you feel good', 'You'll get used to it'. Like hell you don't know what you're doing!" Red strained whatever muscle could start moving again. She could feel her hand begin to curl into a pathetic fist. "I'll kill you both for this! I'll kill every single one of you sick pests before hell drags me down!"

"Oh. You think we're -" Aranea felt a little sick to her stomach. But Red was right, it did look like they were sex traffickers, sort of. A couple of strangers kidnapping a woman like this.

She closed her eyes for a second and took a breath. "No. We're not sex traffickers. My job actually involves saving people from those." Man, this was a totally different dynamic from how her job usually went.

"... Giving those kinds of people an ass-kicking is one of the best parts of my job, too. But I should introduce myself. My name's Aranea, and Hayden and I..." Aranea looked around; he still hadn't come back. Ah well. "Hayden snuck off for a bit. He was the guy who you tried to kill tonight. We're called scouts, from a place called Manta Carlos. One of our jobs is to make sure humans don't learn too much about the supernatural. And your killing spree has been drawing too much attention."

She was glad this place had some basic silencing charms on the outer walls, at least.

Red's face was scrunched up in aggressive skepticism at the woman's attempt at sugar-coating what she and her partner were up to. "You expect me to believe that?!" she spat out angrily. "I've seen things that people pass off as a trick of the mind, I've seen things from folklore. But I know you're no better than the people that did this to me!" She could start feeling her hand clenching, but at the rate she was recovering from the paralysis, she was only getting even more agitated. She didn't like not being able to move. She didn't like being so exposed. She didn't like being so helpless. And she didn't like how she was so vulnerable. Red began to strain herself trying to get her body to obey her, but she could only manage to make the rest of her outer appendages twitch. After trying for a solid minute, disregarding anything else the woman had too say, she started to scream again. "You and your partner won't get away with this!"

Aranea frowned. She tried to come up with a way to explain this situation a little better.

"Gods. Look, mind-tricks and ghost stories are one thing. They're deniable. People are more than willing to believe that it's just some mixture of superstition and gullibility. But the undeniable stuff is where we run into problems. That's when humans start - " it was around this point Aranea realized it. "Ooookay, you're not paying attention to any of this." She could tell the girl was just trying to struggle against the venom.

"You'd think they'd give me a training session about this. Or something," she grumbled. But she was thinking - maybe it was time for a harsh dose of reality.

Aranea stood up and fiddled with her earrings, taking them off just before Red started screaming again. At the same time, Aranea began to change dramatically. Her hands became chitinous and a little fuzzy. Her eyes became pure black, and her face rearranged to acommodate another pair. Her jeans melded with her body, fading away entirely. Her backside seemed to expand rapidly, and extra legs shot out, until her entire lower body looked like a giant spider.

It all took less than a second. Aranea barely seemed to notice. She wasn't, for the record, taking off her charm to scare red. It was just to get more comfortable. But hey, it couldn't hurt.

"You're wrong about that one," Aranea answered. "I have good news and bad news. The bad news is, we're getting away with it. You're kind of a serial killer, in case you forgot. As far as the law is concerned, your country wanted us to take you off the streets. You aren't getting your powers back unless we know you aren't going to kill anyone with them, so escape isn't really in the cards for you. Plus, we have silencing charms on this building. Nobody outside can hear you. So you can give it a break with the screaming."

She'd wait to see how much all this sunk in, before moving on.

Red's eyes had widened, but more out of surprise than fear. And a little smile curled on her lips. "Oh, you think so, don't you? My country wants me out? For being a serial killer? HA! There's worse people to be, but I'm glad they took notice and actually did something about it for once. Oh, but I wonder why that is. Are they afraid I know something that would ruin someone? Why else would they hunt me down like this while real monsters can just walk out in plain daylight." Red let out a fit of laughter until her lungs hurt. "And I don't need powers to kill people. It turns out it's a lot easier once you've been on the receiving end of it. Now that I've thought about it, without all that cracked black skin, I'd get to walk alongside other monsters so freely. They'd never see it coming. I guess I'll have to thank you for that," she'd punctuate with a smirk.
