Name: Hasuka Manabe
Age: 16
Birthday: December 20
Gender: F
Species: Human (well kinda. She has the spirit of Kohakuren, a kyuubi, sealed within her.)
Class: High School
Grade: 11th
College Major: -

Appearance Description: Standing at 168 cm (that's 5 ft 6 in for you americans), and sporting long silky hair and wide golden eyes, Hasuka is a rather attractive girl (don't tell her, she gets embarrassed and flustered very easily). Her facial features give away her oriental heritage, and the style of her outfit further reinforces the effect. She has a rather curvaceous body, and while her standard outfit is (relatively) modest, it does sport a rather short skirt, which exposes her long legs. In Kyuubi Mode, her hair turns white, her eyes turn red, crimson markings appear on her face, and she grows the nine tails typical of the mystical fox (the way the linked pic is drawn makes it look like there are eight, but there IS a ninth one behind her back). The fox-shaped hairpin she wears in Miko Mode is the physical focus she needs to harness Kohakuren's powers, hence why it disappears when said powers are fully unleashed, upon entering Kyuubi Mode.

Personality Description: Hasuka is a kind, generous person. She is a Cowardly Lion of sorts: while she won't hesitate to rush into battle to protect the weak and/or help those in need, she is rather insecure about her abilities and also very shy, so yeah, she'd rather avoid conflict if at all possible. Owing to the strict education she received growing up, she is very polite, always using proper honorifics when speaking, addressing people with the polite pronoun anata, and never rising her voice. Also because of her upbringing, she is very sheltered and naive: she does have basic common sense, but still, over half of her life was dedicated to the special training, to become a maiden and a warrior, protecting an isolated shrine in a forgotten japanese valley. As a result, she is excellent at spearsmanship, martial arts, and also tea preparation, flower arrangement, and preparation of shrine rites... But not as much at, say, world history or math, let alone more, uh, social fields of study, like how to deal with the opposite sex. Factor in her innate shyness, and you see why she gets flustered so easily: in particular, she hates being teased and/or hit on, because more often than not she won't GET people are teasing/hitting on her, and that makes her feel dumb.

By contrast, Kohakuren (who is fully capable of speaking to people around Hasuka and to Hasuka herself, courtesy of the girl's hairpin) is haughty and confrontational. She considers all humans to be beneath her (in her eyes, Hasuka is nothing but a "servant" or a "vessel"), and is thus always condescending to them, to the point of sounding rude. Indeed, Hasuka spends most of her time apologizing for Kohakuren's words. The spirit IS capable of respect, but only shows it to other mystical creatures like dragons, kitsunes etc.

Powers: Ok brace yourselves, this turned out longer than expected.

My original idea was to have Hasuka used a special martial art passed down by her family, which would consist of special techniques augmented with the fire-based powers granted by the symbiosis with Kohakuren. In my view, the martial art would consist of four stances, named for the Four Gods, each consisting of five techniques. For the sake of this community's mechanics and rules, I will threat each stance as a separate power: for now, Hasuka will have the special set of abilities granted by the symbiosis with Kohakuren as her first power, and the weakest and most basic stance as her second power. More stances will be learned/trained at a later time. I was told it IS possible to acquire new powers/skills/abilities/techniques by training them, so yeah. In-universe, this will be justified by the fact that she is still a novice with a lot to learn: she starts knowing just one stance, and has to learn the other three over time. By the way, since each stance specializes on applying one kind of seal, this means that she won't be able to use Koryu until she has mastered all four.

As it will soon be apparent, the fighting style I devised for Hasuka has two obvious weaknesses: firstly, all of her offensive techniques are strictly single-target, as her signature mechanic, the manipulation of seals (explained in details in the next spoiler) relies on placing seals, and then exploiting them to gain advantage, on a single opponent. This makes it difficult for her to deal with multiple foes, and while later stances will have some minor AoE options, mob control will always be her weak spot.
Secondly water can not only negate many of her special effect, but also remove her seals, thus killing her signature mechanic dead: as a result, opponents with water-based powers are tough clients for her.

The spirit of a nine-tailed fox is sealed within Hasuka. This grants her a specific set of abilities and skills.

Elemental RPS: Hasuka is naturally resistant to fire-based damage, and burns inflicted to her are of one degree lower (a technique that would inflict a third-degree burn only inflicts a second-degree burn to her. A technique that would inflict a first-degree burn does nothing). On the flip side, she has a natural weakness to water-based techniques, as water can negate or nullify most of her own fire-based techniques.

Immunity to low temperatures: Because of Kohakuren's fire constantly burning within her, Hasuka doesn't feel cold. This has advantages (she can be hit by an ice-based technique and keep fighting, or competently hold her own even in a snowstorm) and disavantages (she is physically incapable of feeling the sensation of cold, which means that, if she were to find herself in a situation where the temperature is close to the point of death for a human being, she would not realize until it's too late).

Seals: Hasuka's fighting style is all about seals. There are four types of seal: Tiger, Turtle, Phoenix and Dragon. There can only be a maximum of one seal per kind on the opponent at any given time (meaning that, if you apply a Tiger seal, you must wait for it to disappear before you can apply another Tiger seal, but you can apply a Dragon seal immediately: the most seals that can exist at the same time on one opponent is four, one Tiger seal, one Dragon seal, one Turtle seal, and one Phoenix seal). Some of Asuka's offensive techniques can apply a specific kind of seal on the opponent, and some other gain special attributes if they hit an opponent while they have a specific kind of seal on them. A seal will disappear if Hasuka hits the opponent with a technique that gains special attributes from hitting that specific seal, if the opponent is hit by a water-based technique, or naturally after two turns.

Kyuubi Mode Activate: once per battle, Hasuka can enter Kyuubi Mode. She remains in the mode for four turns. While in Kyuubi Mode, seals won't disappear if hit by a technique that takes advantage from them, and seals applied while in Kyuubi Mode don't disappear after two turns (seals that were applied BEFORE Hasuka entered Kyuubi Mode will still disappear after two turns). Once the four turns of duration have passed, Hasuka will revert to Miko Mode, and all seals currently on the opponent will disappear.

Ultimate Secret Form - Koryu: The strongest offensive technique at Hasuka's disposal, it can only be used in Kyuubi Mode while a Tiger seal, a Turtle seal, a Phoenix seal and a Dragon seal all exist on the opponent. Turning around, Haruka will grab the opponent with her tails, and hold them tightly. She will then summon a massive pillar of fire, centered on herself, which will take the form of a giant golden dragon. As the opponent is forced by Hasuka's tails to stay right next to her, they will be completely enveloped by the flames, resulting in third-degree burns on the whole body (if they survive at all, that is). The technique has a radius of one meter and a half (centered on Hasuka), and the pillar reaches 10 meters of height. It should be obvious from the activation requirements, but this technique can only be used once per battle.

The most basic stance of Hasuka's ancestral martial art, it is the most versatile and, as such, the one novices usually start with. This impressive versatility, which allows it to address most situations of a fight, comes at the cost of a serious lack of offensive and defensive power, when compared to the other stances. Basically, this stance is decent at everything, but great at nothing. Also, it lacks ranged options, althought it does come with some good mobility options to make up for it.

Tiger Stance First Form - Dash: Quickly dashes forward, her body protected by a thin layer of flames. Allows her to move for a maximum of 15 meters (in a straight line), and still have time to perform another action in the same turn. Does not deal any damage by itself. Grants immunity to projectiles during the dash. Immunity does not apply to water-based projectiles. Can be used defensively to dodge an opponent's attack, but only if there is a Tiger seal on the opponent: using this technique this way while in Miko Mode will cause the Tiger seal to disappear from the opponent. Has a cooldown of one turn.

Tiger Stance Second Form - Tiger Claw: A very swift slash with her spear directly in front of herself (maximum reach: one meter), with the spear leaving a blazing trailing that takes the form of a tiger's claw. Hits the chest area and places a Tiger seal on the opponent. If used while there already is a Tiger seal on the opponent, Hasuka will follow up the first hit with a second one, in an x shape. In Miko Mode, the second hit will cause the Tiger seal to disappear from the opponent. Has a cooldown of one turn.

Tiger Stance Third Form - Lunging Strike: Lunges forward for a spear stab (maximum reach: 5 meters), followed by a rising kick with the foot enveloped in flames. The kick cannot be blocked (I.E. it will deal full damage even on an attempted block) if there is a Turtle seal on the opponent. In Miko Mode, hitting with the kick will cause the Turtle seal to disappear from the opponent. Has a cooldown of two turns. And yes, I did mean Turtle seal, it wasn't a mistake: the idea is to create a strategy that mixes up different stances, on the long run. Of course, Hasuka cannot make the most of it right now.

Tiger Stance Fourth Form - Predator Crescent: A huge upwards crescent slash with the spear enveloped in flames. Not that great horizontally (maximum horizontal reach: half a meter), but pretty good vertically (maximum vertical reach: five meters), so it makes for the perfect anti-air. Places a Tiger seal on the opponent. If used when there already is a Tiger seal on the opponent, Hasuka will follow up with a downward smash with the blunt end of the spear, slamming the opponent on the ground and forcing them into a prone position. In Miko Mode, doing so will cause the Tiger seal to disappear from the opponent. Has a cooldown of two turns.

Tiger Stance Secret Form - Byakko: Can only be used in Kyuubi Mode while there is a Tiger seal on the opponent. Hasuka completely envelops herself in a coating of flames, which takes the form of a tiger. She then rushes forward in a straight line (maximum reach: 10 meters), ramming into the opponent and causing second-degree burns. Has a cooldown of three turns.

Species Abilities: Having trained in martial arts since her childhood, Hasuka has the physique and the athleticism (and is capable of the feats) of a professional athlete. This being said, she is still a human, so she has no inherent special powers. Everything special about her comes from Kohakuren.

Biography: Hasuka was born in an isolated village, in one of the minor islands of the japanese archipelago. Ever since ancient times, her town had a shrine dedicated to the mystical spirits of japanese folklore: said spirits would actually interact with humans at the shrine, granting them their wishes (to the best of their abilities) in exchange for all sorts of offerings. Hasuka's family was in charge with protecting the shrine: traditionally, the first son of the family would become a warrior, mastering the family's secret martial art and having a spirit bound to him, so that he could defend the shrine; meanwhile, the first daughter of the family would act as a maiden ("miko" in japanese) who would take care of the shrine. However, Hasuka's parents only had one daughter, and since she had no close male relatives, she was trained to take on both roles. At the age of 10, she completed her basic training as both a miko and a warrior, and was bound to the flame fox spirit, Kohakuren.
It seemed like a peaceful life, immersed in the island's traditions, was awaiting Hasuka, but unfortunately, following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011, her island, which was quite close to the site of the tragedy, became virtually uninhabitable. Pretty much everyone on the island was forced to move to the mainland, and of course that meant having to learn how to live in modern society. In Hasuka's case, that involved going to school with other people her age... And she soon realized that, in such an environment, knowing how to take care of a shrine and how to talk to spirits wasn't a very useful skillset. And her other skillset often got into troubles, when she accidentally hurt people during PE and/or set stuff on fire... Not to mention Kohakuren's tendency to make her presence felt (read: badmouth people) at the worst times. After being forced to change school, moving up and down Japan with her family multiple times, her parents eventually learned of Starlight Academy, and decided that, for her own good, their daughter had no choice but to move there.

So now here she is, having transfered in just in time for the beginning of the new school year.
