Age: 50 (mentally/physically early 20s)
Birthday: May 23
Gender: Male
Species: Naga
Category: Student
Class: Remedial
Appearance Description:
Art (Gift) by Clover
Being a naga, Gyth is fairly large, about 20 feet from head to tail, and heavier than he looks, his tail being almost pure muscle. This is small for his species, but not unusually so. His upper half is that of a slender and athletic human male, while his lower half is that of a large snake with emerald green scales. Like a snake, he has retractable fangs, a forked tongue, and bright green eyes with a vertical pupil. Gyth has short blond hair and an impish grin when he actually smiles. If it weren't for the scars covering his body, he might pass for cute to anyone who didn't know him.
Art (Gift) by @Sarrain
Gyth usually doesn't wear clothes in naga form, and wears whatever he needs to blend in when using his human sigil. Because his clothes don't shift with him, he generally carries a backpack. He has a rich, masculine, moderately-pitched voice.
When using his human form sigil, Gyth's general build remains the same, but his lower half becomes fully human, and he stands at about 5'2". He still has all his scars in this form.
Personality Description:
Justifiably paranoid, Gyth is ruled by fear in many ways. And ashamed of not being human - definitely has a bit of an inferiority complex. He has internalized the idea that his species are meant to be slaves, barely above animals, savage creatures. He's also sensitive about his small size. There's always a bit of desperation in his ambition - if he can just get enough power, hurt anyone who'd hurt him, maybe he can stop being afraid. He is in his human form as much as possible, in spite of the side effects of the chaos magic because humans were always the more powerful. He doesn't want anyone to see him as lesser. He feels intensely vulnerable on this new planet, especially with his link to his god weakened, and will react violently to any hints of being enslaved again.
Even after his "rescue" he was still used, mostly by the god who'd saved him. Stithos, his god, is the only one with any claim to his loyalty, but it is a tenuous thing born of hate and envy. Already burning with anger from his slavery, Gyth was molded into being vicious to survive. Living by cunning and ambition, he follows a target on people's backs while avoiding being killed himself. Sharply intelligent, Gyth is a planner, though he never received any education. A strategist and infiltrator, Gyth is a consummate actor, very good at pretense.
Gyth is a treacherous snake, ambitious, always working against those he perceives as stronger or higher up than him, though he is quite capable of pretending to respect authority or allowing himself to be hurt, even actively injuring himself when it suits him, to gain more power. A very patient man, Gyth plays a long game and is not above any sort of subterfuge, trickery, false humility, or deception to get what he wants. In spite of this, he is not a masochist and enjoys hurting people if he gets the opportunity to.
Active Abilities:
Chaotic Damage Sharing - If he cuts a symbol into someone then cuts the same symbol into himself at roughly the same location within 5 minutes (arm to arm, leg to tail, chest to chest, etc.), there is a 50/50 chance they will take any damage done to him for the next 15 minutes, 50/50 chance he takes any damage done to them for the next 15 minutes. Works on anyone that he's able to cut into, but doesn't bypass regeneration or magic resistance. The damage is equivalent in that a cut to his tail would affect their legs and vice versa, but if someone naturally doesn't feel pain, they still wouldn't.
Chaos Magic Sigils - Must be in a state of high excitement (either aroused or intensely angry or religious frenzy) when carving sigil. Cuts the sigil into himself. Can't use both sigils at once.
Heat Charm Sigil -
Keeps his internal body temperature warm even when in cold weather, but still a danger of frostbite in below freezing temps. Leaves his thoughts slightly feverish and disorganized for the whole period including the recovery. Lasts about an hour. Will be twice as affected by cold for about 15 minutes after. Must wait at least an hour between uses, starting after recovery time.
Human Charm Sigil -
Carving the sigil forces him to shift into human form for an hour, plus 15 minutes of complete vulnerability it takes to shift there and back. While in human form he's unbalanced, and has to pay more attention to walking like a human. Shuts off his tail strength, healing/durability, and enhanced smell, but remains cold-blooded. Mentally easily excited and moody in this form. Must wait at least an hour between uses, starting after recovery time.
Passive Abilities:
Enhanced smell/Tasting the air - Has a predator's sense of smell, and can taste the air like a snake. Can locate people by body heat. Strong perfume confuses his senses.
Tail Strength - With his tail, he is able to crush wood, and bend soft metals by wrapping around and squeezing.
Healing, Durability, Increased Life Span - Being 80% reptile gives an increased healing rate. Can recover from injuries at twice the rate of a normal human. Broken bones can mend in half the time, lacerations can close up within a few short days, and even limbs can be regrown over time, though that in itself is a lengthy process on its own. This durability and healing has led to naga developing a very strong immune system, rendering them immune to almost all forms of disease and toxins. The average lifespan of a naga is around five hundred years.
Soul Bonded - Can't sell or enter into agreements with his soul as payment. Can't be resurrected or made undead. Had more connection to his god and power, but portal travel weakened it.
Fast Strike - When in naga form, can move forward to grapple/punch someone at 50 feet/second, from a standing start, but only over short distances ~10 feet. Otherwise they're as fast as an athletic human, and these bursts do tire them out like running.
Pain Tolerance - Nothing magical, but he has built up pain tolerance both with repeated uses of magic that requires him to injure himself and by allowing others more powerful than him to hurt him.
Weaknesses:
Cold-blooded - Heavily dependent on environment to maintain his levels of activity and health. Like many reptiles in the early or cooler hours of the morning, he can be sluggish and unresponsive. On colder days, in general, he will rarely venture outdoors.
Size - One of his biggest drawbacks is his size. He is quite large compared to humans, with his tail reaching almost 15 feet in length. This makes living in a human sized world awkward and at times dangerous. People often trip or step on his tail, causing potential injury to himself and others. He is also quite heavy compared to a human.
Hydrophobia - He's awed and terrified by large bodies of water, even rain makes him uneasy. If you did manage to submerge him in something, he'd panic. His dense body means he doesn't float either. And even in human form, he would drown twice as quickly as a regular human
Dark Side Dweller - His eyes have adapted to life on the dark side of his planet. While this has given him some ability to see in the dark, it's nothing more than human, and it has made his eyes more sensitive to bright lights. He'd need sunglasses to see clearly during the day.
Common Magical Items:
Simple Language Charm (Hrace) - This is the standard language charm provided to most characters. It translates a characters mother tongue into English, and allows them to hear English as their mother tongue.
Biography:
Gyth is technically an alien, born on another planet, a somewhat primitive desert planet ruled by gods and humanlike wizards. The naga were a slave race, thought to be barely above wild animals. Even their gods, though still powerful, were not worshipped by the wizards.
He was raised as a slave from birth, but rescued by an underground cult in his teens. They hid on cold side of planet planning rebellion. Life in cult was treacherous, but their god taught them magic. His planet's equivalent of the devil. Life was hard and few survived. Especially because Sithos was a cruel sadist who loved playing with his worshippers, seeing them hurt each other or themselves to please him
Gyth climbed the ranks quickly. Ardent in his sacrifices, treacherous and bold, even managing to sacrifice some humans. And keeping Sithos entertained in other ways, though it sickened him to debase himself. It was worth it to be favoured.
When Gyth reached a high enough position, a portal was revealed to a new world. There he might be able to find a better place, if he risked it. But no one who'd entered had ever made it back, except his god, and Sithos would not say what was on the other side. Gyth saw a chance for power and took it, ended up on Manta Carlos with no way he could see to return.
Disguised in human form when he arrived, Gyth quickly realized no one spoke his language. Followed people until he was noticed by the police, and ended up getting a language charm. He's signed up with the school. He'll learn as much as he can about this planet and then plan his next move.
Resources: Lives in the dorms. Hunts for food and receives stipend from school. Looking for ways to provide for himself.
Additional Information:
Has a makeshift altar to Sithos somewhere in the Forbidden Forest.
Used makeshift bone daggers when he had to fight, but most of what he did was sneaking. Either getting other people to do any fighting or a knife in the back when needed.
