Name: Gwendolyn "Gwen" Hyde
Age: 20
Birthday: February 12
Gender: Female (She/Her)
Species: Witch
Category: Student
Class: College
Grade: 1st year
College Major: Undeclared
Job: Waitress
Appearance Description:
Gwen is a short girl, standing at only 5'0 on a good day. However, she still manages to pass as mature appearing due to her bobbed brown hair, meticulously brushed, and the fact she is rather curvy. She does have patches of acne scattered across her face, but nothing too severe, and nothing she can't cover up if wanted.
Gwen does sometimes have the appearence of sleep deprivation, such as dark bags under her eyes and lidded eyes. Some days she manages to catch enough sleep to appear perfectly normal, but those days are still few and far in between. Still, her brown eyes will always appear clear, and her skin usually isn't pale enough to be unhealthy, having a normal tone.
Gwen tends towards mixing and matching styles. She prefers dresses and skirts, most of a neutral coloring, but nearly is never seen without her typical boots and coat, no matter how clashing. It just seems to be something she is comfortable with.
Personality Description: Gwen goes through life with a constant nervous laugh and a desperate optimism. She haven't gotten the chance to get to know many people other than shallow friendship, but she believes any closeness is good, and hopes that if she ever gets close to someone, it'll be just as great as she imagined. She usually can't think badly of people, or will try to point out the good points in someone. This extends to situations as well, making her seem sometimes terrified of something turning out to be bad. In fact, sometimes, this optimism seems dangerously close to breaking.
Gwen is rather paranoid, and as this have built up over the years, it is very hard to shake. While she tries to not let this effect her too much, physical dangers is always something to watch for, and making sure she is the best she can be, especially to other people, is at the top of her list. After all, she holds three strangers wellbeing in her hands, she can't make things worse for them physically and emotionally.
Gwen really wished for friends, and after arriving at the Academy, she have doubled down on this. By this point in time, being clingy is the norm for her, especially if she believes she's becoming friends with someone. Unfortunately, she have been lonely for so long, and she simply cannot stand the thought of being alone even in a place surrounded by people like her. This can extend to destructive levels, with the biggest example thus far being the failed potion that ended with three other people connected to her.
Active Abilities: Potion Creation: Gwen's main sense of magic is potions. Unlike many other families of witches, Gwen's family, and, usually, their covens, often can only perform one type of magic naturally, and Gwen was no exception. After years of practice, Gwen have found she can do many things with her potions, enchant items or people, give temporary powers, and even cause effects similar to glamour and illusions. Unfortunately, potion creation always takes some time, from about ten minutes, to a few hours. The more powerful the potion the longer it's creation will take, with the most powerful potions at her disposal taking at least a few days. No potion is instantaneous, and rushing things is a very bad idea, due to the possibility of side effects or the potion simply not being as powerful or effective as needed.
This is all dependent on how magical the mixture is, and if her rhyme is acceptable, however. The specific items mixed together never matters, the main ingredient needed is raw magic. Thus, any magical items, enchanted objects, or even pure amounts of magic is fair game, so long as they all go into the same liquid. Anything unmagical will ruin the potion however. Also, the stronger the potion, the more ingredients required, so that the mixture is even more magical.
The other requirement for her potions to do whatever she wants is a rhyme, and this usually requires just a few sentences that happen to rhyme, and tell exactly what she wants the potion to do. This is very important, any vagueness can make the potion cause unwanted side effects that are impossible to predict until used. Only Gwen's rhymes work on her potions, and without her rhymes, the "potion" will be nothing more than liquid full of magic.
Enchanted Coat: One of Gwen's most prized creation through her potions. While the first enchantment, made when she was a kid, was just to keep the coat unnaturally clean and wrinkle free, several others have been added to its array of enchantments. Currently, the coat will become warmer and thicker in colder temperatures, will float its way back to her if circumstances remove it from her, was made vibrant red instead of brown and, if she is attacked, will make physical attacks such as normal kicks and punches less effective, mostly making bruises and lingering pain less likely.
These enchantments are permanent unless another magic user removes them in some way
Passive Abilities: Strangers and their Thoughts: After accidentally connecting her mind and body to three complete strangers, strangers she still doesn't know, Gwen can now communicate with these three people, whoever they are. This "communication" mostly only consists of imagery and feelings due to words being tough to imagine into everyone's heads, but concentration from Gwen and one of the strangers can allow a conversation, and even questions. There is no guarantee that she can do this at any given time however, due to this requiring cooperation from one of the three strangers.
Long Lived: While by no means immortal, Gwen will live longer than the typical human if nothing unfortunate ends her life early. Living to be about 300 is about what she expects, though witch lifespans are always hard to pin down. She will also age slower, in fact, her physical age have recently froze, and will likely stay the same for quite a few years.
Weaknesses: Voices in My Head: Obviously, while having three different people's minds connected to your own sounds like a novel idea at times, this sounds much less perfect once nobody can turn their thoughts off. Gwen is constantly bombarded by the three strangers thoughts and feelings, and while she haven't asked, she assumes they experience the same issues. The only time these thoughts stop is when someone falls asleep, and that's only one set of thoughts each. Unless all three fall asleep at the same time these constant thoughts will never stop completely, at least at the moment.
Physical Connection: As it turns out, Gwen's connection to three strangers is more than mental, it's physical, with some unfortunate effects. Any injury or illness is shared by everyone in the connection no matter what, there is no exceptions. Worse, this extends to death, anything that would kill one of the people in the connection will kill everyone, from Gwen to these unknown strangers. Any injuries that aren't her own simply appear the moment they happen, and heal just like any injury, thankfully.
Common Magical Items: None.
Biography: Gwen knows her family never meant for her to feel as lonely as she often does. She really does. But growing as one of the middle children of a giant family that already had a dynamic built, nearly every magic type under the sun, and being shy for many years led to Gwen feeling incredibly alone, even at home.
High school is where she tried to turn everything around. While the south of the U.S didn't have that many covens, at least where she was from, her family have managed to track down one or two with children near her age. And she was determined to befriend them. Unfortunately, determination doesn't fix everything, and Gwen found she simply couldn't fit in at the moment. She wasn't as passionate with magic as some, didn't do well enough in school to impress the intelligent kids, and just wasn't a sports kid. She had to admit, she was sad, maybe too sad, and her thoughts went to bad, then worse places throughout those four years of high school.
And she couldn't stand four more years of college with the same people and the same loneliness all over again. But instead of doing something she knew she'd regret, she tried something she had no idea she'd come to regret. She decided to use her talent in potions, she make sure she was never lonely again.
Perhaps in was how she worded her desire in her rhyme, but the moment she took a single sip of the potion Gwen knew things have gone wrong. The moment voices started up in her head instead of her suddenly having the ability to make friends just like that, she had rushed to her parents, not at all calm. Many attempts to remove the spell later, they found the enchantment was connected to several other people, people that would have to be around to even start figuring out out how to remove the spell.
Contacting friends at Manta Carlos, one of the most magically gifted places in the world, arrangements were made to send Gwen there to eventually remove the spell. And while there she would attend the Academy as a college student so her education wouldn't be halted at the time, even if this costed more money for her to live at the islands than just living at home like most of her family. So yeah, Gwen knew her parents cared, even if they weren't as close as she would have wanted. And hey, she got her wish, in a way, she had a different place to start over, and maybe even actually get her friends, other than the new voices in her head.
Resources: Gwen has a rented apartment, nothing too large, but a comfortable home. While she works as a part-timer to pay her own rent and tuitions, both her parents and the Academy still assist her due to her simply not making enough money at the moment.
