CW: Thread contains girl talk. Periods, budding body development, and the like. If any of those things make you squeamish, don't read on.
It was all so surreal. It was only a few days after her thirteenth birthday party, and Shay was in a real daze. Her Abuela (which was grandmother in Spanish, for those who might be confused. Nerea, as Klaus had told her didn't appreciate the English grandmother -- it made her feel old) was still in town. It was the perfect time to go to the store bra shopping and, erm, having girl talk. All those weird things a girl has as she grows up.
That included the monthly arrival of Aunt flow, which she'd gotten not long ago. She didn't much want to talk about that, but she'd rather talk about it with her Abuela than with Klaus or Vito. She could have asked Quin (Addy was totally out of the question), but that still felt odd to her.
Up until the point that Shay was dressed and in a car with Nerea, none of this had felt real. Being the Rosales' daughter, living this life. No, none of it was real until the parents wanted to show you off to their parents. She wondered if Nerea really saw her as a granddaughter, or was it more like a thing? Like when your child has a puppy. It was still a matter of marvel to Shay that the Rosales' liked her and wanted her to be part of them.
Or, maybe it was less that they wanted her to be a part of them and more that they paid her so much mind. Why her? Didn't Klaus have biological children he knew about? Shouldn't Nerea want to pamper them? Get to know them? Shay had nothing much in the way to offer. She was just some little human girl who occasionally spit up blood. Very lackluster in the glamor department for those who had shiny, new things in their faces all the time.
So yes, Shay was nervous -- terrified, even -- of what Nerea might think of her when they spent time alone. If Nerea didn't like her, would Klaus stop liking her? Was this one of those make it or break it situations? She hunched into herself.
