It was evening, just after sunset, that a very frustrated Rem landed by the beach. Usually he put effort into landing gracefully, but he was too ticked off for that at the moment.

He started pacing back and forth, huffing and mumbling to himself while his hand occasionally gripped his forehead. “The nerve of that demon. To insist that I should feel bad or that I could ever fall. Me! Talking like he knows everything when he doesn’t know anything at all.”

He clenched his teeth and the angry pacing continued. “If only Sera was here, he’d know what to do. The angel to demon ratio of this island is all messed up...” He was quiet, for the most part. He didn’t think anyone was around but in his frustration he hadn’t checked too hard.

It was a little early for Ishvi when he woke up, but his sleep had been restless as usual, so he didn't even try to get back to bed. He didn't have to get to classes and he wasn't quite in the mood to attempt socializing. He decided a walk might help clear his mind.

He didn't even realize he was headed towards the water until he was most of the way there. It had been awhile since he'd walked on the beach, before the island had been shunted off to this other dimension, and he found himself wondering if the ocean would look somehow different. If he could handle the memories.

A voice jolted Ishvi out of his musing. Had he heard something about falling? Right away his eyes were drawn to the white wings of the person in front of him. And he did hear the part about angels. He whispered to himself, not realizing he was speaking out loud, "Angels are less likely to come to earth." Then he froze.

He didn't recognize this angel, but they also looked young. They would've been a kid when he left. He wasn't sure if it would be worse if they were a survivor or an angel from somewhere else. "This place is not..." he trailed off not sure what to say, already bracing for a confrontation of some sort.

Rem tensed up very suddenly when he heard the voice, turning one way to see nobody and then behind to lock his eyes on Ishvi. His face went pink in an instant. How long had they been there? How much had they seen? He should've looked around more. Why didn't he just fly home to the dorms. "You- You shouldn't sneak up on people like that..."

He squinted for a moment, quickly realizing something was off about this random person. Shortly after, his halo glowed and he flapped his wings to get just a little closer and inspect. There was a hesitant expression on his face and in his tone as he finally spoke. "You're a..." Then he found himself stepping forward a bit more. "You've fallen."

"I-" He hadn't thought he was walking quietly, but being suddenly confronted by an angel, even one so small and young seeming as this one, had caught Ishvi off guard. He already felt defensive and spoke with an awkward shrug. "I'll try not to?"

Then came the moment of realization Ishvi had expected. Actively forcing himself not to flicker, he winced and looked down, not daring to meet the angel's eyes. "Yes." He hadn't realized how much it still hurt to hear it said aloud.

"All the survivors have fallen... But you're not from my home are you? You'd recognize me if you were. " Bitterness laced his voice. And he suddenly felt protective of this uncorrupted angel. He'd met so few here.

Steeling himself, Ishvi looked at the angel. "You shouldn't be here. You're still pure. Why are you here? " There was a touch of desperation to the question. Ishvi was worried, not confrontational.

How disgraceful... A fallen angel, a real one. He'd never seen one in real life before, but he'd heard about them. Sera had fought one before. Supposedly once an angel had knowingly sinned, they would fall, taking on a truly ungraceful form. Nobody he knew aside from Sera had actually figured out much about it though and even Sera seemed to really dislike talking about it.

He looked almost disgusted for a moment, backing off a little now that he had confirmed that little detail. "All the survivors have fallen? No, I'm not from this world or whatever your's was, probably for the better from the sounds of it."

When questioned about why he was even on the island, he sighed. "I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, the group of angels I'm associated with has become a little corrupted. They think my heart has been tainted by my mentor and that the only way to fix it is having me live here until it's just magically made better." As far as Rem was concerned, the whole ordeal was completely irrational. But he didn't really have a choice in the matter given that the alternative would mean never becoming a true guardian angel.

It was hard to see his own disgust mirrored in the other angel's face. Ishvi's control slipped and he flickered briefly, quick enough that the fear aura shouldn't have triggered. He frowned at the way his home was spoken of though. "My home was filled with good angels who even tried to raise me, a halfbreed. I chose to leave it. I was foolish. But the angels that did not leave were destroyed in battle. They were not corrupt. "

Ishvi took a breath and sighed. "It is good though that you were not there." Privately, Ishvi thought the boy looked like he wouldn't have been much of a fighter anyway, but he certainly wouldn't say that aloud.

The angel's explanation took him by surprise though. He looked closer at the boy's wings and halo. They didn't have a hint of black, or even gray. Ishvi felt he was missing something, and as much as he felt wrong questioning a full angel, he had to ask, "How did they become corrupted? If your mentor was falling they should have exiled him. And - I see no taint on you. This place... I know you're a full angel and stronger than me, but..." Another flicker and Ishvi clenched his hands into fists and looked down, struggling with himself. "It's not good for an angel to be away from home. Or why would exile be a punishment?"

Rem squinted after the flickering. He hadn't been paying close enough attention to actually tell what exactly had happened or if his eyes were just playing tricks on him. He was quickly distracted, however, by the mention of them raising a half breed, quickly jumping to conclusions in his own head before they were proven incorrect by the rest of what the fallen angel had to say.

It seemed that perhaps those angels had to fight a great battle and a few of them ran away rather than facing it. And in their absence, the angels lost. Shameful. No wonder they'd fallen.

Focusing on the discussion at hand, Rem would sigh yet again. "Someone convinced them that demons could be innocent. And my mentor was not falling, neither am I. That's the thing, there's nothing actually wrong with either of us"

The flicker happened again, this time for sure, it wasn't in his head. There was just something wrong with this... thing. "I shouldn't even be discussing this with someone like you. I have no idea what you are, but you are certainly not an angel, that much is clear."

"Someone convinced them... they sent you here... to learn about demons?" Ishvi almost felt this was some bizarre dream he would soon wake up from, except he was also starting to get a headache. The last thought that maybe the other angel was from a different outpost completely vanished. He couldn't imagine the elders being convinced of anything positive about demons. "You're really not from home," he said faintly.

"I am a half angel. I was raised by angels. I'm nowhere near perfect, but I did live here five years before I, before I fell." Ishvi's voice had started out determined, but it faltered at the end. "You're right to be disgusted because I fell. And that's much worse than any demon. The demons here aren't even..." He paused, unclenching his fists and staring at the scars on his palms trying to figure out how to explain.

"Demons, shadow demons, a specific group of demons massacred my entire home. I wasn't there, but I was told by a survivor that they'd brought magic that would kill us permanently. Those demons are not innocent. But most of the ones here, they're not even the same type. They're people who were born a certain way. But falling was my fault, things I chose to do. Even if I didn't realize the path until too late and didn't know how to get back."

A half angel? Could a half angel even be considered an angel at all? And how did that even work? The concept was unheard of as far as he was concerned. Despite the confusion, he'd already decided that it was bad. Then, on top of being a half angel, they fell? Yeesh. Being a half angel was something he could almost overlook, given that it was more a fault on the parent than this one. But having fallen on top after being given such a chance to carry on living was just plain sad.

The demons aren't even?... Rem started listening again, with very judgmental eyes. The part about shadow demons being responsible for the downfall of their home, that made perfect sense. The part about falling being their fault? Also perfect sense. That bit about demons just being people who were born a different way rubbed him wrong though.

"Correct, falling was your fault. As far as my understanding goes, that is always the case." A tone of sorrow took over as he continued. "I am sorry to your home and the angels who resided there. That the demons were able to overtake them and that the angels it raised had betrayed them in their hours of need. Truly unfortunate." He expression took a turn when he shot a piercing glance right at the fallen angel. "And the way you speak of demons, after what they've done to your people... It's one thing not to be vengeful, but to speak in such a way about the ones who destroyed your home..." And then it turned to disgust. "Demons are demons, some may have convinced you they are different, but none of them are. You're too flawed to see through them."

This young angel. His remarks cut, everything Ishvi felt repeated back to him by someone who hadn't fallen. And yet, the sting was not as strong as it would have been had it been an angel from home or even one with more experience. And there were some things he was entirely misinterpreting. Perhaps the other angel reminded Ishvi of himself when he'd first arrived, eager to prove himself worthy of returning home.

Ishvi shook his head, "There was no betrayal. I left when I was too young to join the army and only found out later it was too late to return. The other survivors-" his mouth twists a little in anger. "Proper angels, but one was an exile long before, and one was stranded here, but not fallen before he came. "

Then the other angel accused him of not being vengeful and Ishvi went very still. He looked out over the ocean, hands clenching again and this time he couldn't help shifting fully, though he attempted to move slightly behind the boy so he'd be out of sight for the moment it happened.

"You don't know what you're talking about. There's a shadow demon on this island. He was responsible for many deaths. Another angel told me I should have been at home. And I do regret not being there to die in place of a real angel. But they pardon off island crimes here.. So I dueled him. I tried to punish someone they would not, ignoring the cost...and then..."

Wings wrapped tight around himself to cover the scar over his heart, Ishvi keeps staring at the ocean, unable to continue for a moment, and unsure he should.
