"That's so good for you, Kenta," Shay said, trying to sound as genuine as she could muster. "I'm so so glad you have someone who can actually help you." Tears were clear in her voice. She reached up and rubbed her face with her sleeve. "I gotta go now. Have a good time with your Onee-chan."
"S-shay-shay?" His eyes widened. She was... crying? "What... I don't understand. Why are you crying? Isn't this a good thing?!" It slipped out. He yelled out to her, confusion and sadness obvious in his voice. "Shay, I can... Be a real person. I might figure out a way to... Not... Not die on you. Isn't that what you wanted?"
Shay flinched when she was yelled at, and it only made the tears come harder. She rubbed at her eyes to hide the evidence, but it was already out there, and it made her feel terrible. She had to stop crying. She wasn't a fucking baby. "You already are a real person, you idiot! That's what I was telling you before!"
"...Then..." He took a step back and looked down, holding his heart. "Then why did you..." He clenched his eyes shut tight, and tears finally slipped out. He gritted his teeth and clenched hard at his chest, getting a handful of his clothing. That part of him that said everything would get better... it was wrong! Everything just hurt more! He just wanted to scream out in agony. "THEN WHY DID YOU ABANDON ME, SHAY?!" He yelled, forcing himself to look up at her again. He couldn't hold it back anymore. He needed an answer! "YOU SAID I COULD END UP LEAVING YOU, SO YOU LEFT ME! I'M FIXING THE PROBLEM! I'LL BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT PROMISE! SO WHY..! ... Why... Shay... WHAT ARE YOU STILL MAD ABOUT!?"
Shay was so sick of being yelled at. She was so sick of it! It wasn't her fault. She was just trying to save herself. Stop from breaking and here he was yelling at her as though everything were her fault. She hadn't asked to be close to him. She hadn't asked for any of this!
"Stop yelling at me!" She screamed back. Again, the urge to push him was back as it had been before. He had to stop yelling at her. He had to, or she'd lose it. She couldn't. Couldn't. Couldn't. "It's not about you! I didn't abandon you! I'm standing here, aren't I? And you're yelling at me! Stop it!"
He punched the wall next to him as hard as he could to try and release some of his pain. He hit the concrete wall so hard his knuckles started to bleed, dripping down onto the ground. "You... Just keep dodging the question. Shay I... Will I ever understand?" He asked, his whole body trembling. "You're right, I shouldn't yell. It won't do any good. You... Just won't answer me anyway, will you? ..." He took a deep breath. "You did abandon me. One day we're friends, spending almost every day together... Then you just don't wanna see me again. All because I could leave... Because I could die... Shay, everyone else can too. What... What made you hurt me? Cut ties with ME? Do you just do this with everyone? ..." He let out a heavy sigh, his bleeding hand hanging down at his side. "Just... answer my question. What is it you're so afraid of, Shay?"

"I've answered you; you just don't like the answer." Shay stumbled away from him when he punched the wall, visible distrust in her eyes as she stared him down, willing him to keep his distance. She didn't want to be hit.
"You. You. You. That's what it keeps coming back to. Yes, Kenta! Yes! I do this to everyone. I don't want friends. I don't want pain. I don't want this. But you don't care what my answer is. You want something clear-cut and easily wrapped up. That's not what life is like. It's not black and white. I didn't--"
Shay cut off, breathing hard. She was getting too off track. She didn't need to bring up that.
"You..." He sighed and took off his gloves, one of which was now coated in his own blood. He dropped them and turned around. "Shay..." He shook his head. "No... Thats it, isn't it? ..." He clenched his bleeding fist. "Goodbye, Shay." Those were his last words before shifting into his fox form and sprinting down the road, leaving little bloody paw prints down the sidewalk. He would keep sprinting until he made his way out of the city and into the woods. He didn't know where he was running, but he just kept going.
