"I haven't touched it all - yet." Zora said shaking her head, "The dubious ones are in escrow and legal accountants are going through it. And unfortunately, the debts are through his businesses, which he left to me and..." here she made a resigned gesture. Tomas's gifts always had hidden strings.

"It's all a mess, Angelo. To be honest, a lot of the companies are in foreign countries, they don't regulate the same as here..." she admitted.

"Let's just say it would have been better if Tomas hadn't have left me anything... None of that is worth this, worth Broen leaving. If I had known..." she said, her voice trailing, not sure what she have done. Maybe not tell him, and just pay? She wasn't too sure Broen would have been happy if she had done that either.

It sounded like a mess and a half.

"It's too late to deny the inheritance," Angelo said with a small sigh, "but Manta Carlos could still help. They have a division for taking apart narrow-reality crime groups from people claiming the pardon, and you could probably turn things over to them so they could handle it."

He wondered for a moment if she knew about other Angelo. It wasn't like it was a secret, but it wasn't something everyone knew, either. He'd handled a small part of his stuff over, but considering the main organization had still been running by humans, Manta Carlos had opted to stay out of it.

He waved a hand just the same.

"Doesn't matter," he said, trying to channel his inner Erione, "it's obviously not just this one thing that made Broen leave. In my letter he mentioned that he needed to get away and figure stuff out. Asked me to give his dad shit while he was gone."

Zora just nodded. She had accepted the inheritance blindly - without considering the implications of what it might carry with it. She knew she shouldn't have. But she had to admit, at that time, she had not been in the best frame of mind either.

The 'give Freddie shit' comment made Zora smile despite everything. She could easily see Broen saying something like that.

"Have you seen, or heard anything about Crawford since?" she asked curiously as she tore a piece of her bagel off. "And do you know if Broen had any contact with him afterwards?" she said looking at Jude now.

"He never really said anything to me, but Broen tends to be the private about his past, and unless I ask directly..." she explained, sure that Jude would probably understand.

"No," Angelo said, shaking his head. "And I don't think Broen has either. I think he... sort of considered his relationship with his father over. I don't think he'd visit him, but I am going to visit him this week and I'll ask if he had any visitors."

He doubted he had. Who was there even? Now that people knew what kind of person he was... well, who would possibly visit him? He'd been ostracized. Cut off.

Angelo tapped his foot, thinking about things. He couldn't help but suspect he'd talked about his past more with Alma or Gabe than Zora had with Broen, and... well, that was a mess.

He let out a small sigh.

"I think he just wants to remind Crawford people still know what kind of person he is. So he can't wiggle away from it. But sending me probably feels safer than doing it himself."

"That's strange in a way, I am kind of surprised that nobody really visits him," Zora had to admit. "Since heroes like he supposedly was, do tend to have staunch supporters and fans," she mused.

"I mean, I'm glad that he's been ostracized and all, don't get me wrong," she clarified. "I am just surprised that at least somebody hasn't tried to contact him. I haven't even seen news articles or interviews." Zora explained thinking how in the Narrow Reality criminals like him, were often a social curiosity, a type of odd celebrity.

Zora took a piece of the bagel as Jude talked. "I can understand that, not wanting to see his dad again. And honestly, I am proud of Broen actually, though he'd probably kill me for saying that," she grinned, "but he had me worried for a while. I truly thought he'd do something to Crawford. Although, I really cannot blame him, if he had."

"When are you going this week?" Zora asked curiously. "And more importantly, does Angelo or Basilio know you are going?" she asked keenly, wondering what his father and Sargeant Genovese thought of this whole thing.

"It's hard to deny what he did," Angelo said. "Hero worshippers cling to denial because things aren't proven or it's all a scam, but there's video footage of what he did. He's been charged. He's gone to jail. It's harder to maintain your denial. I mean, it's entirely possible someone has gone to see him, but I doubt it."

He wanted to believe that no one believed him anymore. That the evidence had stacked up too high. But at least part of Angelo recognized that he was probably putting too much faith into others.

His food was largely forgotten.

"I haven't decided," Angelo said, "but I'm going to tell my father about it. He'll probably say something like 'point out to him the irony of me being a beloved member of the community while he rots in jail'."

Zora had to smile at that. She did remember Broen commenting a few things about Jude´s dad and his dealings back in Halcyon. How times had changed, she thought, the irony of everything very apparent.

"You know, as odd as this may seem, I almost would like to see Crawford again," Zora admitted. "Part of me is curious as to how he is getting along, and if he has changed any..." she explained, knowing deep down that it was very unlikely Frederick would ever change.

"He won't," Angelo said, a certainty in his voice. "Not really. You can always stop by if you want to see him. From what I understand, the islets have basically open visiting hours, but I'm not sure they'd let both of us in at once."

He suspected that was what she was implying--that she wanted to go together--but Angelo doubted he'd feel comfortable talking about things related to his dad with her right there. Even if there was no actual risk he'd be prosecuted for it, his opinion on talking about those things had taken a sharp 180 when his dad had reappeared in his life.

"As for Broen..." Angelo said, "If you want me to store some of his stuff in my pocket dimension, I can. I only have like two feet of easily accessible space, but I have a lot more space I can't access. I've already told my dad about him going, so that's that taken care of. Realistically there's nothing else that can be done, I don't think."

"Maybe I will, next week I'm crazy busy with tax time coming up, but the one after," Zora answered, kind of considering that maybe she could go and see Broen's father at some point if the islets allowed visitors like Jude said they did. And as much as the disliked the man, part of her was sort of curious too. He was Broen's father after all whether she liked it or not.

At Jude's offer, Zora shook her head. "Thanks, but it's fine, I have the space, and truthfully, Broen does't really have a lot of stuff," she admitted thinking that at her place he just had clothes, a few personal items and tons of bakeware and stuff for cooking.

"Although, if you could check his dorm room for me that'd be great, see if there is anything important that should be put away safe," she said thinking that she probably wouldn't have as easy access there since she wasn't a student.

Oh, his dorm. It had truly slipped his mind, and he nodded.

"I'll move his stuff out since he'll probably be gone a while, and explain things to the school. He'll know to find me when he gets back anyway." Or at least he hoped he would.

No, scratch that - he definitely would. His note had made it clear he felt Angelo would understand why he was doing it, and to a certain degree he did. Broen had always been a free sort of person, the kind of person who valued his ability to go where he pleased most of all.

"Thanks for talking with me," Angelo said, "I know it's probably upsetting, but... probably for the best."

Considering the things Broen had struggled with, he suspected the alternative was much worse.

He made a point of polishing off his food, which had otherwise been forgotten, and then he said his goodbyes and headed off to work. He'd have to stop by the school later that afternoon and explain the situation.
