Earlier, with the Chimera attack and all, it had been too hectic for Shay to notice it. The spirits had been so quiet, and then they'd been buzzing. It was foreign to be without them by the time the group had been shuffled to the ballroom.
Having been regulated with staying very put and not playing at being a hero, Shay had what felt like all time in the world to think about it (even if it was really only a night.)
Angelo had looked different. She'd noticed him too quickly when things were going on. Shay hadn't questioned it then; she'd just felt glad that he was around. Too glad, but what else was new.
Before Angelo could drop her off at home (she was sure his day would be packed due to all this nonsense) Shay had been primarily quiet, watching his reflection. What a strange thing. How did this come about?
"Angelo," she said, turning to look at him once they'd parked at the small manor. "You... You can see it right?"
Couldn't he see spirits?
"The spirits. They're more drawn to you than they are to me right now. That's definitely new."

Which is why he didn't notice anything. Too distracted. Too busy. No time for self reflection or careful assessment. Maybe if he'd been hunting a stealthy one he might have noticed, but the monsters he'd fought that night had been big and loud.
"Huh?" Angelo said, turning his head to Shay once they'd parked. Honestly, hearing you can see it was not encouraging given the circumstances, and Angelo quickly scanned the surrounding area, half expecting a monster to be on top of the mansion.
Thankfully, Shay elaborated almost immediately.
"Uh... not really, no," Angelo pointed out. "My spirit-o-vision was never as good as yours, so unless they're recently deceased I don't see shit."
Hopefully they weren't.
"Spirit-o-vision," Shay laughed at that name. She recalled that the spirits who had so long ago swarmed to her had recently died, hadn't they? That was why he saw them.
Shay couldn't generally tell the difference unless the ghost depleted the longer is stuck around so the idea never even came to her.
"If you don't see them, they must have been dead for some time then," she elaborated, staring at him, or more accurately all the things around him.
Movies always made it seem like spirits made their surroundings cold, but Shay got none of that from any of these, though watching them cling to Angelo like tattered clothing was a disconcerting experience.
Was that what they did to her?
"Do you feel differently? beyond 'dead tired' that is?"
