A secret santa gift exchange sounded fun, so Jae participated. Maybe he'll get to meet someone new and will have the chance to give a nice gift. He wanted that warm and fuzzy feeling of doing something nice, so it was a win win all around. Jae didn't personally wrap the present he got for his partner. He had tried, but it looked so bad. Like, really, really bad, so he paid for someone else to do it professionally.

It resulted in a nice gift in square box wrapped with light blue paper and topped with a shimmery, dark blue bow. Clean and simple, and hopefully something a Lucas Surcadre would like. Jae settled into a chair at a table near the library entrance. A nice quiet place to exchange gifts at. While he waited he read a book that was already on the table.

After sixteen years on the island Lucas considered himself to be a secret santa veteran and he wasn’t planning on retiring anytime soon. It was a fun challenge to figure out what the perfect gift would be for a complete stranger (usually). Jae Yi-Lin was in the same grade as him, he had seen him around the hallways and once in the community center, but that’s about it. Luckily enough Lucas happened to know plenty about one of the interests Jae had listed down on the form.

“ Jae Yi-Lin right? I’m Lucas. We may have met before, but it’s been awhile.” Lucas said, setting both two bags on the table then took a seat himself. In one of the bags was a backpack style carrier, his bird’s head poked out of the clear window. The other was a canvas tote bag with Jae’s gift. Though it would have been more efficient to only have one, Lucas had learned the hard way in the past that Cluckers were not to be trusted next to anything of value. It would take more than one hand to count the times Cluckers ate his homework. Lucas eyed the very nicely wrapped present Jae had set out then set out his gift wrapped in paper that had penguins printed onto it. “ How’d you wrap it so neatly like that? Now I’m excited. So who should go first? Or do we want to open it at the same time? It’s up to you.”

"Hey!" Jae closed his book and smiled at Lucas as the other took his seat. "We might have, maybe at the community center." He said, and eyed Cluckers in the carrier. He's seen Lucas around the school, and has certainly heard Cluckers.

Jae looked sheepish when the wrapping was brought up. "I, uh, paid for it. My personal attempts were. . . really bad. Um, let's go together." He added, liking the idea. He pushed his present forward for Lucas to take. Then reached for his. Inside the beautifully wrapped box were the following gifts: a nice, leather-bound bird watching journal, a binocular, and a sparrow key-chain charm that Jae found at the last minute and threw in because he thought it would be a nice little extra.

The penguin wrapping paper was really cute, and Jae was carefully in opening it, taking care not to tear up the wrapping.

“ Ah, really? Even if you did try and wrap it yourself, I don’t think I would have minded, but I really appreciate that you went out of your way for this.” He smiled politely. “ I actually had one of my siblings hold down the paper while I did the taping. For me it’s a two person job.”

Lucas traded the presents with Jae and took a moment to more closely admire his beautifully wrapped gift. He carefully pealed away the tape then unfolded the wrapping paper, neatly setting it to the side before opening the box. His tail wagged as he opened all the bird-watching related gifts.

“ Wow, this is awesome. How did you know I like birds?” He joked. “ Thank you so much Jae."

The first of Lucas’ presents to Jae was a gag gift: a cupholder that looked like the mouth of a bass, which was bough at the same shop as the second gift: two different types of bait. Right underneath was a blue and white string bracelet with beads braided into it.

“ Made the bracelet myself! It's a fishtail braid. I wasn't sure how big your wrist were, you can cut off the excess."

Jae flushed slightly at the words, but happy that Lucas appreciated the attention to details. "Oh, yeah?" He said, smiling at the mention of siblings and their help. Jae didn't have any siblings he could call on for wrapping needs, but it wasn't like was hurting for cash.

The first thing he saw upon opening his gift was the open mouth of a black bass. He laughed as he pulled it out and saw that it was in fact a cup holder. "Oh, you know," Jae drawled, an easy smile on his face, "A little bird told me." Jae pulled out the different bait and his eyes lit up. "This is perfect!" He blurted before reigning in his excitement.

He had recently gotten back into serious fishing again, and this was an excellent start to that. He liked the bracelet too, "Thank you," Jae said, trying to keep his smile proper and not goofy, "These are great gifts."
