Raphael felt horrible about having to stick his nose in a young girl's laundry. It felt like a thing some kind of perv would do, but at least he had an exceptional excuse. He was doing it to get her scent so he could solve a missing persons case. It had been in the news, probably announced in classes too. A girl named Kayla, the youngest girl in the cheerleading team, had gone missing.

It must have been lunch period. Students were running around all over the place. Hunched over in his hybrid form, Rafa half walked, half crawled across the campus, his nose to the ground. This was the real reason they were letting him work with the detectives right now - his super sniffer. He was following the scent from the high school girls' dorm to... wherever that girl must have gone next. Hopefully, he wouldn't be finding a dead body in the near future.

[sup]Steven lunch time was being spent much like any other. By finding a secluded spot away from others and reading. While getting away with a sneaky cigerette while he could. However that didn't last for long as out of the corner of his eye, Steven saw what looked sort of like a cross between wolf and man. However the something struck him about them as if he should know them, as well as what on earth they were doing sniff along the grounds.[/sup]

[sup]Stubbing out the remains of the cigerette he had been smoking hidden behind his book. Steven closed it and stuck it under his left arm as he got up and walked toward the wolf. Ending up cutting them off and asking directly. "You lost something?" Half expecting that to be the reason, unknowingly making the task harder due to the smell of smoke that came from him. No doubt the wolf nose would still be able to follow the trail it was, but it was unlikely to be as pleasent. [/sup]

[sup]Looking at the wolf hybrid something clicked in his brain as he caught the wolves eyes. "Wait a minute..." Steven muttered to himself, lifting his free hand to his chin in though. "Do I know you?" He asked feeling like he should have, but not knowing exactly why as they certainly didn't look like someone they had met. Wracking his brain as to those he had met of a wolf like persuastion since arriving on the island and quickly eliminating them one by one until to one candidate was left even though they looked mostly different right now. "Aww fuck really!" Steven cursed to himself, hoping all of a sudden that he was mistaken.[/sup]

Raphael took a break from his sniffing to stand upright and laugh. "Yeah, Steven. It's Officer Quinn. You're probably lucky I'm not looking for the source of that doggone cigarette smoke right now."

It was that seventeen year old kid he met on his break at the winter resort up on the mountain. He had caught the kid drinking alcohol when he wasn't supposed to be, and he made sure the Academy would be having a word with him. To the tune of weekend classes about underage alcohol use, which he was now legally required to attend, along with a single seminar about interacting with police officers on the island. He didn't know if the seminar had happened yet.

"How's the weekend classes?" He reached up and stretched. Being hunched over for that long, nose to the ground, could not have possibly been good for his back.

"I was simply standing with a friend who does...Officer. Passive smoking at its finest." Steven cut back quite quickly. He wasn't sure how good Quinn's sense of smell was, but Steven expected that it was good. However it wasn't like he was breathing in Quinn face, his clothes could easily have picked up the smell from another smoker. Though he probably could find the cigarette stub itself if he wanted to. Making Steven regret not remember to turn it to ass, rather then just stubbing it out.

"Those lesson are going fine, it's a lot easier to not get caught breaking rules when someone actaully gone to the length to tell you what they are. Plus as I said, I like learning...Officer." It was clear though, the second time round that the pauses before the title were purposeful. Polite, but to the point of disdain. "So you are obviously not here to make sure that I've been attending them, what minor occurrence has your notice today? Officer." Steven said, casually folding his arms and tilting his head to look at Quinn.

Raphael could almost taste the sass in Steven's voice. He laughed once.

"Well, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself with those classes. I'm just doing small, unimportant stuff like trying to find out what happened to a missing student... Mr. Rosett." He mirrored the way Steven addressed him. "It's really not a big deal, Mr. Rosett. You can stop standing in the middle of her scent trail whenever you want. I'm not gonna hound you about it."

He kept stretching. Oh man it felt good to take a break from leaning over like that.

"You didn't happen to know Kayla Griffin, did you? She was a freshman in high school. Cheerleader." Most of the school would have heard about her going missing by now.

Steven rolled his eyes when the officer, spoke to him, addressing Steven in the same manner was obvious to him because he had already done so. The content of what Quinn said though caught Steven's attention and he smiled slightly without notice. "See that's the sort of thing police services should use their time." Steven said a slight hint of approval in his voice, that the officer was here on a job that he considered an important one. "Sorry to say I can't say I know the girl." Steven anwsered the question.

In truth Steven actually hadn't heard about the girl going missing. She was a cheerleader, not the normal type of person would pay attention to. Well to say he hadn't heard about it was some what untrue, in actuality Steven had over heard a conversation about, but his mind hadn't been paying attention and so it was lost to the unreliable part of his memory.

Steven circled to the side slightly, removing himself from the trail and being more to the officer side. He didn't leave though, instead asking a question in return. "Are missing people common around here?" A question born out of curiousity and self concern, wondering if the supernatural nature of the island cause more crimes to go unsolved or not even known about.

Steven's comment about what a policeman should be doing just made Raphael sigh. Again with the argumentation from this little shit. A policeman should be enforcing the law. But he wasn't going to start down that path with Steven - he enjoyed his sanity.

Too bad he didn't know Kayla, but he wasn't really expecting anything groundbreaking from him. With a sigh, he got back down with his nose to the ground. "Well, thanks anyway."

He had only just started to sniff again, when Steven asked his question. Raphael's sniffing slowed as he considered it, trying to recall the relevant statistic. "It is unusually common, yeah. Definitely above average for countries that aren't going through some kind of major turmoil, but not by a whole lot. We're something like ten percent above average for that. Per capita."

Assuming those studies he read in college were still up to date.

Steven filtered the new information through the stored memories of varied text books he had read over the years. He wasn't sure about the population of the island, but even with a 10 percent higher avarage missing people, it was near impossible that the figure was higher then back home in the states. While still unlikely to even be above the U.K. either. While he expected that the island wasn't too much smaller, britian was know for a extremely high population for his size. No matter about the fact though, such a higher rate of missing cases was some what unsettling.

"Well thank you for the infomation I guess. Wouldn't have occured to me to look it up if I hadn't heard about your case." Steven sounded slightly less hostile after Quinn had anwsered his question. "I suppose if I hear anything I'll pass it on." 'If you are not busting my ass for stupid shit.' Steven added in the confines of his head, showing a little restraint in what he said aloud.

While it was clear that Steven and Quinn were unlikely to really get on. Steven didn't let that dislike extent to his sense of morality. In fact Steven was more then likely to at least spend a little time asking those he knew, if they knew the girl in question. Maybe even pointing them in Quinn direction if they seemed to know anything that could help the man. As unlikely as it was. If the officer had nothing more to really add in respone. Steven would simply wait and watch him go, waiting until he was out of sight before pulling a smoke out and enjoying it with a slight chuckle.
