Still tear faced from her talk with Angelo, Shay let him out and immediately called for all her siblings to meet in the dining room. Once they had quieted, Shay breathed out, sitting at the head of the table and trying to find a way to say what she wanted to say.
"Angelo and I spoke," she began slowly, gauging people's reactions before continuing. "He talked to me about his past in the Genovese mob, and he was kind enough to offer us all a place in his home. Legal adoption for anyone who wants to try for a more healthy lifestyle."
Another pause to let them take this all in.
"I'm taking him up on it, and I'd strongly advise most of you do too. We're all so wrapped up in being a Rosales that I feel we've forgotten who we are without the name and the gang. Over the next few days, I want all of us to really think about where we'd like to end up in our lives and decide what's best for ourselves.
"And I want you all to remember that no matter the choices our siblings choose, we'll always be family and always be there for each other.
"This is a chance for a new, improved life. One where we can learn healthy boundaries, have a chance for normal careers and not live with the idea of blood money hanging over our head every single day.
"I'll be open to talking to anyone who needs it. Please tell me your decisions as soon as you've made them."
Somewhat numbly, Shay stood and left the table, having no more energy in the day to get into a group talk right then. She went to her room, locked herself in, and fell on her bed trying to get her head together.
