Gareth was poppin’ wheelies out in the courtyard on his wheelchair. Why? Because he didn’t know what else to do with himself. He had just gotten out of physical therapy, which as per usual was stressful and made Gareth feel…ugh. He was grateful that the school not only gave him a prosthetic leg, but was allowing him to do his physical therapy at the school rather than the hospital, but…he felt like the progress toward getting him to walk felt nonexistent.

He was being impatient. He knew he was. Having that level of self-awareness did not help. There were so many days when he just wanted to throw his hands in the air and quit. Give the prosthetic leg back, and just deal with staying in a wheelchair. But no, there was also that prideful part of Gareth that needed to prove to himself that he could do it. Even if he was miserably impatient.

Other than the struggle of learning to walk all over again, Gareth was fitting in pretty well at Manta Carlos. He wasn’t in classes yet, so socializing was really just a matter of hanging out in public areas and hoping to run into someone he would get along with. It was pretty fun to just hang around and meet random people on Manta Carlos too—Gareth accepted the magical nature of the island well, and enjoyed meeting individuals of varying species and powers.

Until he started up classes, physical therapy and meeting random people was pretty much all he had to do.

After seven painful hours of just sitting, school finally let out. While it lasted only a third of her day, it felt like more like an eternity without a clock to watch, or really anything to do in class. School was extremely confusing without As of right now, none of her teachers knew she went blind, for better or for worse she had yet to know. If there was one thing she didn't want, it was to be treated differently because she couldn't see even if it meant that her grades were going to suffer a bit.

Usually, Klef got really excited for class to end, it meant that she was free to go wherever she wanted, like the forest. What wasn't exciting was the fact that her friend canceled plans last minute. Without someone she trusts by her side Klef would probably get lost, who knows what could happen if she tried to explore the woods alone, but Klef knew she would be plagued with boredom if she didn't find something to occupy herself with soon. The last thing she wanted was to be alone with just her thoughts. Klef made her way to the courtyard with the help of her stick, the place was full of equally bored people so she fit right in.

It was hard to tell what was going on, mostly chatter, and strange almost robotic noises. The latter Klef was almost positive wasn't as typical. She couldn't tell what exactly it was, but it sounded interesting, like a pimped out hot wheels set up or a robot.

" Hey!" Klef exclaimed in the general direction of the humming sound. "What are you doing? It sounds really fast, but cool!"

When someone finally approached Gareth, he let the front of his wheelchair fall back down to the ground with a thud.

“Huh? Me?” Gareth laughed.

“Just learning to pop wheelies in a wheelchair. Because if I have to be stuck in one for a while, I might as well try to have some fun with it.”

Gareth took a careful look at Klef—between the stick she was carrying and her question, it wasn’t a hard guess to say she couldn’t see very well. Whether she was completely blind or just legally blind, he wasn’t sure. Not that it really mattered.

“Name’s Gareth,” He said, wheeling closer to her. “What's y' name, luv?"
