Getting a Feel for the Place (Open)

After being settled into one of the dorms, Shane strayed away from his room to explore the vast expanse of his new home. He had even been handed a map to help him, and being as it was the closest he wandered into the lounge, which was currently empty for the most part. Everyone else was probably outside, enjoying the sun that was sparkling high in the sky.

He really was an opposite that way, him and the sun never really got along. Not anymore anyway. Ever since he began to understand his powers(Which really was a work in progress. He had figured out alot on his own.), him and the sun had an understanding that if it did not get in his way, he would do it the same favor.

He flopped down on a chair and leaned forward, resting his forarms against his thighs and just let his eyes scan the room. He always had hated adjusting to new locations, but this so far seemed the most troubling. He didn;t even have his family to fall back on. Now he would actually need to make friends. Inside he sighed, that was an over rated process to say the least.

Alex trudged her way into the room sighing heavily as she did so. She needed some alone time, and didn’t’ want to go the dorm for it. The giddy thoughts of several score of teenage girls in various stages of hormonal imbalance were getting to be too much for her. The obsession over every little thing in their life and the emotional messes that they all seemed to be in was just so very daunting. Every problem to them a life ruining and disastrous misfortune specifically designed for them by the universe, or whatever malignant god watches over them, just for them. Were they all crazy? Was she even different? She’s been wallowing in the misery of her own gender-dysphonic plight as if it was the end of the world and her relationship with Alice that she had forgotten about the big problems in her life. A potential murder roaming the halls and her pressing desire to find a job had all taken a back seat.

That is why she missed being a guy. Guys were simple and easy to understand. In their simple machismo they were easy to understand and tolerate. Things were not life and death with them, unless it was sports, as long as they had food a place to sleep and some avenue of sexual venting. No matter how disguising and crude those thoughts may be. Everything wasn’t a Greek tragedy.

That’s why she was here, in this room; at this time she knew she would be alone. Yet she wasn’t some she hadn’t seen before, probably new, was already in here and in her chair. Sighing heavily she took a seat in the overstuffed chair next to the occupied one and sunk down into it with a relaxed sigh. The nervous thoughts of one new guy were still better than a hundred teenage girls, she hoped.

Slowly, everyone inside the small room had clealred out. All going to partake in whatever they could along with the friends they had here at the academy. Which for awhile, left him alone and all to himself. He had leaned back in the chair and sighed heavily, Come on, this isn't the end of the world. He told himself this a few times in his head, like he had done so many times before in the day already, yet he couldn't relax.

Still his shoulders were tense, still he found his thoughts chasing him with worry. In fact, he found himself worrying about things he truly didn;t care about, Don't open your mouth, you'll say something stupid, guaranteed... That's if someone talks to me first, I'm not exactly the most approachable. That had caused him to look over himself a few times within the day. All black clothing, his hood cast over his long red hair, and the lack of a smile never really helped any sort of situation.

He eased into the chair some more and tried to force his thoughts to stop as a girl walked into the room. He didn;t want his awkward thoughts to start showing as he sat there. Too make matters worse, she made a sigh as her eyes swept past him in the chair, What the hell? I do something wrong? He thought, taking his eyes away from the young woman. Then again, it wasn't too difficult to do something wrong in a girls eyes, so he chose not to press the subject in his head, or out in the open.

Taking a quick glance at her face, Shane couldn't help but let his thoughts run again and before he knew it his mouth had already opened," Wasn't staring or anything but, you, look umm... Troubled." His words slipped out clumsilly and he found himself kicking himself with a mental boot, Wher's a fucking shadow when I need one...

Alex frowned inwardly as she listened to the guy’s thoughts. He was rather skitterish it seemed; it reminded Alex of calculus class the day of the test. The fear the unease the racing thoughts going through his head it was all very disconcerting to her. But she, for the life of her, could not figure out what was making him so nervous except that she seemed to be involved in it in some small way she had not yet figured out why.

Then he spoke to her and she slumped further down in her chair. Troubled? Did she really look troubled she thought she was doing a good job of hiding it behind a mask of stoicism but if he could tell she was then she was clearly failing miserably at it.

“Oh no I’m not troubled.” She lied in her usual manner with strangers. She didn’t make a habit of spilling her heart to people she just met. “What about you? You look a little on the pensive side.” She added deflecting the topic back on to him.

Shane shrugged, nervous was more the word he would have used to describe the situation. As he had gone over in his head time and tiem again, he felt quite like a fish out of water. He didn't know what to do with himself and where to begin.

He had already graduated high school, so attending classes at this 'school' wasn't truly an option, so, until he figured out whether or not he really wanted to pursue his gift, he needed to get comfortable," Yeah, I guess you can say that." He spoke up finally, realising he had taken a moment to think the siutation through.

"The again, who wouldn't be a little on edge when surrounded with something as unfamiliar as this," He explained and slumped back into his chair, Yeah, unfamiliar as it can get. Surrounded by mind readers, kinetics and god knows what else. Thank god I'm on of 'em or I'd be completely lost. He nodded solemly and sighed heavily," I just arrived this morning, so I'm a little chaotic."

“Yeah chaotic is one way describing it.” Alex said with a small chuckle. This place was certainly unlike any other. All these different types of supernatural people all under one roof stuck on this island with each other. The mad creations of science and magic stuck here on this island with each other like some sort of penal colony for the extra-normal. Only Savannah and Botany Bay were never like this. Very probably. Either way it was defiantly overwhelming for newcomers, she could defiantly sympathies with him with how he felt. Hell compared to her swiveling from catatonicness to hysterical crying she experienced the first few weeks here this guy taking the whole thing like a trooper.

“Don’t worry it gets better.” Alex lied. That feeling never really does go away here. Of course that probably wasn’t the best thing to tell him right now.

"I would assume things will get better." He said with a shrug. He was sure things would be fine once he was settled. Nothing could be so bad that it stayed unfamiliar for too long. If anything, he would come to see it as a home soon enough. On the other way, he wouldn't know the feeling if it hit him.

Most people would say home was a place you felt. Sadly, he could not preach the same. To him, home had always been the place where he slept. Not to say it was bad, he just never had an overwhelming feeling of joy while he was 'home'. Nodding his head he shrugged again," Ugh, I'm Shane... Shane Falkner." He said hastily, after taking to the realisation that he had spoken without any introduction.

“Yeah one would assume that.” Alex said half heartedly. Yeah it’s true things do and should get better over time. But why haven’t they gotten better for Alex? Just when she thinks she is getting used to everything here and her new life. Then something happens and things seem to just get more and more awkward and difficult for her. Maybe she just hadn’t given it enough time, maybe now with Alice things may actually start getting better.

“Faulkner? Like the author.” Alex said giving him a half hearted grin. “I’m Alex Monroe. Like the president.”

After arriving, Ana recived a map and went to her dorm room, she then proceded to wander around, getting a feel for the place, studying all the rooms so she could get around faster. She looked down at her map, the lounge, she might as well take a look, seemed like a good place to get used to, make some friends even... maybe. She hadn't gotten much practice with that in her life, being homeschooled and all. Oh, there's two people in here, I hope they like me. Oh my gosh, the one's a redhead.
"Ah, hello, I hope I'm not interupting anything important, my name is Ana." She blushed. Well, at least I know that if I mess up, I can get back to my dorm easily.
