Gareth Bradford
"If I had to do it all over, I would make that deal again."
16 | September 5th | Trans Male | Closet Bisexual or Pansexual? | Human | Student | 9th Grade (Held back)
APPEARANCE
(Above art by Kaifuu)
Gareth stands at 5' 5" with a tanned skin tone that suggests his half white and half Indian heritage. His hair is naturally black, but he likes to dye it unnatural colors--shades of blue are a particular favorite. He has snakebite piercings under his lip, and a couple of piercings along both his ears.
As a transgender male, he has had no access to any sort of HRT or surgeries as of yet and is self-conscious of his soft facial features and his waist-to-hip ratio. As a result, he likes to wear loose and baggy clothing, with a preference toward a casual and 'punkish' style.
Gareth only has his index finger and thumb on his left hand. He also lost his left eye, which is always covered by an eye patch. He also lost his left leg from the knee down and wears a prosthetic. He is currently moving around via a wheelchair, but is working on getting back on his feet.
One look at Gareth, and it’s pretty clear he’s been through something severe. Almost the entire left side of his body, including his face, is completely scarred up from burn wounds. He's always seen covered up in a ton of bandages, which are occasionally seen bleeding at random. The bandages on Gareth's chest are also used to bind down his breasts, although he is absolutely not open about this fact.

PERSONALITY
Gareth is a British kid with the accent to prove it, but has the slang of an Australian from spending his later years down under. Despite his punk style and being covered in major scars and bandages, Gareth is not nearly as moody or broody as people probably expect him to be at first glance. He is actually quite polite, friendly, and loves to chat. He loves to joke around as well, and can be difficult to get along with for anyone who doesn’t like his sometimes goofy, sometimes black sense of humor.
But Gareth has been through a lot, and struggles through the aftermath of what had been done to him. He’s very much the type to hide pain through laughter. He often pokes fun at himself and his own physical limitations, which sometimes makes others uncomfortable—but Gareth believes that, since it is his own damn body, he can make fun as he damn well pleases.
Speaking of which, Gareth is prone to doing whatever he damn pleases. Between nearly dying in a car bomb, and being stuck in an abusive hospital situation for as long as he was, Gareth is painfully aware of the fact that life is too short and can be taken away at any time. That's why as soon as he was able to, he got his hair cut and dyed blue and got his various piercings once he was on Manta Carlos. He may come across as selfish at times in pursuing the things he wants, but he's truly just desperate to ensure his life doesn't pas by without doing the things he feels are worth doing. It's bad enough he can no longer play the piano, and cannot play the same sports he was once so into.
Deep down, Gareth is a highly vindictive person who absolutely believes in revenge and taking situations into one’s own hands. He does not regret the fact that two people are dead because he asked for it, and similar situations he would do the same again.
Gareth is also rather secretive, and not nearly as open with people as he may seem from his friendly nature. He is not open about being transgender, and does not really like to share that fact unless he feels very close to someone. He is also questioning his sexuality, unsure if he is maybe bisexual or pansexual. However, he's also had awful experiences with both a man and a woman, so...he's pretty nervous about dating anyone. He likes to flirt humorously with people, but gets very shy and embarrassed when they actually flirt back.

PASSIVE POWERS
Regeneration: Gareth cannot be permanently damaged from any injury ever again. He heals in only a span of minutes from any wound, no matter how severe. Even the loss of an entire limb will regenerate in around 10 minutes. Even if his entire body is decimated, he will return back to normal in about 30 minutes. He also feels no pain from outside influence.
As is shown in his current state, the Regenerative power does not apply to limbs he lost or scars he acquired before he made the deal with the demon. Hence why he is still very much missing a leg and a few fingers.
Semi-Immortality: Although he is immortal in terms of not being able to be killed by outside influence, he does not have a lengthened life span and will still die of old age eventually. But he cannot be killed from disease or injury.

WEAKNESS
Deal with a Demon
Gareth's Regeneration powers and immortality came at a high price. He made a deal with a demon, and that deal gave Gareth one major weakness: while he cannot be harmed by outside influence, he can be harmed by the demon itself. If the demon's body is injured, then Gareth is also injured and experiences the same pain.
The major problem with that? The demon is a major masochist, and frequently injures itself on purpose. So Gareth often experiences random injuries that simply appear out of nowhere. While they do heal quickly like wounds caused by outside influence, they also hurt.
Gareth is also injured in the event the demon is injured by someone else, rather than by self-inflicted injury. Gareth's life is also tied to the demon, so if the demon is killed then so is Gareth.

HISTORY
Gareth Bradford was born Violet Barnett in London, England—an only child to his white father and Indian mother. Gareth led a relatively normal life in London—his family had some involvement with a major crime organization within the city, but that meant little for Gareth as a kid. He was focused on school, learning to play piano, sports, and just being a kid.
But when Gareth turned 10, something went wrong. To this day, Gareth is still not clear on the details, but his mother and father clearly did something to upset that organization. Did they rat someone out to the police? Did they know too much information? All Gareth knows is that one day, they were all packed up and suddenly moving to Australia.
Despite the sudden move and the mystery behind it, Gareth went on having a relatively normal life. Gareth’s parents did their best to keep his life separate from all that mess. It was in Australia that Gareth started to ask if he could be called a boy, and get more boyish clothing. His parents were open-minded enough to let their child tentatively live as a boy, though hesitant to invest in HRT while he was so young.
It seemed that Gareth’s parents managed to escape the ramifications of having that major crime organization turn against them, at least for the next five years…that is, until Gareth turned 15. Despite all his parents’ precautions, they were eventually found and their car was bombed.
Gareth’s parents were killed instantly in the blast. Because he was in the back seat, and the way he was positioned to grab something out of the back of the car, Gareth survived the blast—though just barely. His body, particularly the left side, was severely burned. He lost three fingers on his left hand, and his left leg from the knee down. He suffered major brain damage and severe spinal cord injuries, which left him alive but unable to function in the hospital. He was left a mute quadriplegic by the accident. He was aware—far more aware than anyone realized—but he could not show any indication of it. He couldn’t make a sound, and any attempt at tiny muscle movements went unnoticed by those around him.
He was in the hospital for about a year, unable to function—and unable to defend himself. His experiences in the hospital were a nightmare, thanks to a male and female nurse couple who seemed to have a creepy fetish for secretly molesting incapacitated patients together.
So Gareth was trapped, until one day he heard a voice in his head. It was a low, and creepy voice with no physical body Gareth could perceive—but it offered Gareth something that no one else could: freedom. His brain and spinal cord damage would be reversed, although his lost limbs would not be replaced, if he simply made a deal with the mystery voice.
Even better: the voice offered him the power of regeneration. It was too late for his leg and fingers, but with the power of regeneration, Gareth would never lose a body part again. He would never feel pain from outside influence, either.
Even though Gareth wasn’t entirely convinced he wasn’t just experiencing some sort of weird dream or hallucination, he didn’t even hesitate to say yes. But it was no dream—he had made a deal with a demon. Not only that, but he asked for more: he asked for the couple who raped him to be killed. The demon, deciding it would be entertainment enough, decided to give that to Gareth as well—as a little extra bonus. After all, any deal with a demon comes at a high price, so he might as well throw the kid a bone.
It was only after making the deal that Gareth understood the ramifications of his choice. Sure, he could not experience pain from ‘outside influence’, but the demon was now connected to Gareth and could inflict pain and injury at any time. And unfortunately for Gareth, the demon happened to be quite the masochist.
But Gareth did not regret his choice. He had regained freedom from his own broken body, and had prevented the disgusting nurse couple from hurting him or anyone else ever again. They deserved the nasty death they got as far as Gareth was concerned: both found heavily overdosed on a variety of drugs that caused a slow, painful death.
It was shortly after those events that Gareth was whisked away to Manta Carlos. Starlight Academy scout Adalwolf Silvester was the one to hear about the bizarre circumstances—a mute quadriplegic kid suddenly moving and talking again and two mysterious deaths—and quickly deduce that there were supernatural forces at play. Ada was swift in doing his job, grabbing Gareth from the hospital, doing damage control, and quickly getting him on a plane.
Ada did not like this kid in the least, but Gareth was simply too happy to be out of that damn hospital and able to function again to notice or care.
He was soon set up at the school: a place to live, a school to eventually return to, once he was physically able. The school provided him with a prosthetic leg, as well as physical therapy on school grounds, rather than the hospital. Due to his experiences, Gareth cannot even go inside a hospital without having a panic attack, so the school was willing to accommodate.
Gareth is currently in a wheelchair, needing more physical therapy before he can properly walk on his prosthetic leg or use his damaged hand. He also is not in classes as of yet, but hopes to be once he is able to walk and properly use his hand again.
