Gales face lit up when he mentioned his best friend, she's never had a friend and only over heard people talking about friends forever ago when she was little but she new she always wanted one. She knew that they'd be fun. "You have a best friend? How did you meet them? How'd you get a best friend? How do you know their your best friend?" She didn't normally rapid fire questions like this but she was just so excited today, it was her first day at a new school, she was talking to her first person not her family, and he had just mentioned something she found super interesting. The new topic of friends actually made her totally forget that they were heading towards the dorms. Made her forget she was about to meet her new room mate and maybe make her first friend.

<div align=center>William nodded when asked if he had a best friend, he still had no idea how it had happened, but he supposed best friend wasn't really strong enough. "Oh... I guess..." He was struggling to remember, it had been a while ago, "I tripped and he helped me out... First time we met I passed out on him." He blinked, it was a wonder how they'd got any further than that. Most friendships started off with talking, or similar interests. Nope. William had passed out and woken up in a strange boy's dorm. Thinking about it, best friend definitely wasn't strong enough. Were you allowed to kiss your best friend? He wasn't sure if it worked that way. "I think he's my best friend..."

He supposed he didn't really know if the boy was actually his best friend or not. They were closer than that, much closer. "Are you allowed to kiss your best friend?" He asked, with a small frown, "sleep in the same bed as them?" He was suddenly awfully confused, "shower with them?" He decided he was going to carry on doing those things anyway, "because I might be doing it wrong..." He looked confused all over again as he spoke. </div>

Gale listened quietly and with great reverence as he regaled to her how he met his best friend for the first time. It made he start t wonder how she'd meet her best friend. Would she also fall into their arms? Or would she just say something at the right time in front of the right person and that person was their best friend. Maybe their best friend would be their room mate? She always wanted a best friend ever since she was little and over heard to girls in her kindergarden squealing and giggling about sleepovers and play dates and how they were best friends forever and she wanted that. But her parents wouldn't let her play with others outside of school so her friend ships were pretty limited. But now here away from all of that she could make all the friends she wanted, she could finally have a best friend!

She stopped her train of thought when the by questioned whether the person they were talking about really was their best friend. Gale stared at him confused and shocked because how could you not know? wasn't being best friends something you both agreed to? And he started talking about situations that didn't sound like that conversation she over heard as a child. It sounded more like something her parents did. "Aren't you only supposed to kiss some one you like like? and only sleep in the same bed with someone your married to? I'm not really sure... But if your happy then you can't be doing anything wrong. Are you happy doing those things with your best friend?" Sh wasn't really sure what she was saying or if she was helping but she wanted to try and do something since this boy was being nice enough to lead her to her dorms, and helped her at the desk.

<div align=center>William nodded enthusiastically, he liked doing those things a lot. But married? He wasn't married, at least- not yet. "I... I don't think I'm ready to get married.. J.. Just yet." He was only eighteen, he hadn't even thought about marriage yet. He liked having someone else to sleep with though, it was nice to have someone to curl up to on cold nights, or when you were having a bad dream. It was nice to cuddle. He did 'like-like' him as it was, though. The feeling was mutual between the two at the moment, and William rather hoped that would be true for a good, long while. "It's nice." He told her, quietly. "Can you like-like someone and be their best friend at the same time?" He asked, frowning, "can you love someone and be their best friend at the same time?"

That was a scary word. Love. He used it nonetheless. He got along with Gabriel better than anyone else- so he supposed he was his best friend, as well as other things. He supposed it worked better that way, a relationship with someone you had nothing in common with was destined to fail. He didn't like that thought, it was nice to be able to crawl to someone when he was feeling sad, or under the weather- which seemed to be an awful lot nowadays.</div>

Gale couldn't understand his aversion to marriage. She didn't understand the commitment it meant, or how it was seen as something only people completely in love do. She was never exposed to enough couples or romances to know what was normal or weird. What she knew of marriage was her parents were married and even though they fought and hated the situation her birth dragged them into they were together because they were married. They would never say any of that to her face, but they also didn't do a very good job of making sure she wasn't listening when they fought. She new her parents shared a bed but she shared it with no one so obviously you must be married to share a bed. That was the existence of her knowledge on marriage. "Oh so you're not married to him. But you two still sleep together. I hadn't realized two people could sleep next to each other with out marriage." She made sure to catalogue this in her brain for later. "I thought liking someone was just a higher step from best friend. Doesn't love just happen? I didn't think there was limitations like you couldn't love your best friend, or stuff like that. But I'm not really an expert on this situation." She really wasn't she was basing her answer on over heard stories from her parents and small conversations she managed to hear outside her window. For all she knew she was spouting complete nonsense. "Things happen in life and some times even when they don't make sense you have to do the best you can to deal with them." This time she was quoting something her dad said during a really intense fight he had with her mom over her. She felt the words fit somehow.

<div align=center>William nodded, he didn't think there was any kind of law to stop him from curling up in Gabriel's bed at night instead of his own. "I think it depends..." He frowned, he knew that certain religions liked you to remain chaste before marriage, William could understand why, though it was too late for that for him. He wasn't really against the idea of marriage, but the thought was merely frightening. He wanted to get married some day, but for now he was alright how he was. He was too young to get married just yet, besides, who would he marry? Gabe he supposed, but he didn't know if that feeling was mutual or not.

Pushing the thoughts away from his head, Bill concentrated back on what Gale had said. He suddenly realized that he didn't know her name, she didn't know his, either. "Oh.. My name is William, by the way." He told her, a little embarrassed for not introducing himself. That was supposed to be the very first thing you did.

Doesn't love just happen? Bill nodded, "yeah, it does." It was a nice feeling, like a fuzzy feeling in your chest that made you giggle every time you registered it's presence. He nodded, this girl sounded like she was wise beyond her years, and he wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. Bill was no stranger to family feuds, he'd been the subject of battles between his parents countless times, he hadn't spoken to his family in a long, long time. He sometimes wondered if he was supposed to miss them, the feeling had sort of... Faded over time. Suddenly realizing that made something snap in Bill's head, and all of a sudden he felt nothing short of melancholy.</div>

"Oh does it? What does it depend on?" She would really love to know more about the world, like what situations could be considered normal, or what was weird, what situations depended on to be right or wrong. And well William seemed to be the best person to tell her some thing in this moment. Maybe he could help clue her in to how people thought so she could better understand peoples motivations and why they did things or why they worried over things she thinks are silly. A question just popped into her head that might sound rude and which most would keep from saying but she was curious and didn't really know better. "Why do you care whats normal? Why do you care if your being weird? Is there something wrong with not being normal?" Her parents gave her very mixed signals on this point. She had decided to take the stance of being weird is perfectly fine, but she was starting to wonder since he was asking what was okay.

"My name's Gale" She had entirely forgotten that people you just meet wont just know your name. She had completely forgotten that it was polite to give your name so when William had failed to give his she hadn't noticed. Having his name now was weird. She hadn't learnt a new name if forever, she'd probably forget his by the next time they meet, but it was nice to have it in the first place.

Gale was not wise at all. She was naive and uninformed of the world. And her knowledge of social norms is from a vague remembrance of grade school. But she paid attention to her parents, she eavesdropped on the people outside her house, so she knew enough to drag out answers to the best of her ability. To her it was fun to answer questions posed to her instead of trying to get answers from her parents. Him agreeing with her really made her happy. She hadn't thought her ramblings would actually mean anything but they obviously did for him. She didn't even notice his change, or that he was suddenly melancholy, she just continued to smile.
