Looking at his watch, he saw they were early. For once.

The frozen lake stood as still as the winter around it. The snow had stopped falling for a few hours, though it would probably kick back up again later. Perfect. That gave them a little while to mess around before the storm inevitably made ice skating impossible.

Cyril stood, leaning his chin again his hockey stick. On one side was a duffle bag, on his other of course was his brother.

”You texted her the right time right? I hope we’re not too early.” Lyric said, swallowing some nausea pills before chasing it with water from his bottle. ”At least its empty. I guess the storm scared people off.”

Cyril shrugged, chuckling under his breath, which appeared in a cloud due to the cold. ”Eh, what’s wrong with a little danger? Besides, maybe afterwards we can get hot chocolate or something.” He offered, a faint smile on his face.

Lyric looked at him. His own expression turned into a smirk. ”...You know, it’s been awhile since we’ve actively hung out with someone. You haven’t stopped talking about this all day. This is what happens when you’re friendly and at least somewhat approachable for once. You should try it more sometime.”

Cyril’s face switched into a frown, though his cheeks were a bit redder than before. ”Ugh, what did I tell you about psychoanalyzing me? I’m just… I haven’t played hockey in awhile!”

Lyric laughed, mumbling a soft “suuuuuure” under his breath. In reality, he felt the same way too.

Cyril looked at his watch again. He was a bit nervous, admittedly. It really had been awhile since someone took an interest in spending time with them. He really hoped that they weren’t gonna get ditched.

Azucena was, in fact, running just a little late. She had noticed that her skates, when she had finally dug them out and dusted them off, needed the blades to be sharpened. And so she had had to drop them off that morning and pick them up on her way to the lake.

As she approached the frozen lake, dressed for the occasion in a bomber jacket, earmuffs, and warm gloves, she saw the twins and waved with her stick as she neared the makeshift ice rink.

"Sorry, I'm late," she said as she arrived, "my skates needed sharpening," she explained as she sat down on a tree stump so she could take her boots off and put on her skates.

"Have you been waiting long?" she asked glancing at them questioningly, hoping that she hadn't inconvenienced them too much.

When he looked up again, Cyril saw that she was on the edge of the clearing. He nudged his brother’s side, who looked up with a smile.

”No prob. Glad you could make it.” Cyril said. Luckily for them, they already had their skates on. At least he had the forethought to get ready so that she wasn’t waiting on them.

Lyric looked to the lake, which was immaculate in its purity. It was freshly frozen over, and it looked like nobody had come to skate before. ”I think it’ll just be the three of us. Cyril was saying that nobody would be out to brave this cold.” Luckily for them, their shared body heat usually kept them warmer than most people would be on their own. Still, they were comfortably yet somewhat fashionably put together. Being from a northern country, they were used to this.

When asked if they were waiting for too long, they both shook their head. ”Nah, if it weren’t for him you’d probably be waiting for us. We only got here like ten minutes ago. Plenty of time so that you didn’t have to watch the spectacle of conjoined twins trying to put on ice skates. Sorry we spared you that entertainment.” He grinned. In reality, he kind of meant it.

He placed his duffel bag down on the park bench facing the frozen water. They had already cleared it off from the accumulated snow so that the three of them had somewhere to sit. While she finished getting ready, Cyril stepped out onto the ice, his brother instinctively latching onto him. He glided a few feet effortlessly, still facing her.

”I have all my old hockey stuff if you wanna do that first. Or we could just chill for a bit if you haven’t skated for awhile. It’s up to you.”

Azucena giggled then at the idea, "I am sure it wasn't all that bad..." she said smiling when they assured her they had spared her the pain of watching them put on their skates.

After lacing up both skates, Azucena got to her feet and walked carefully over to the ice, gingerly testing the frozen surface to make sure it was solid. This was more an irrational fear than a real one but she had heard stories about people skating on the lake and the ice breaking.

Once on the frozen rink, she skated effortlessly over to the boys. Skating, at least to her, was like riding a bike. Second nature.

'Wanna take a few loops around the ice to warm up a little, maybe do some twirls or jumps for fun?," she suggested looking at the twins hopefully, not really aware that Lyric was not all that comfortable with those types of things.

Was it? Cyril was thinking about almost working the two into a sweat even in the freezing weather to get themselves ready. He figured in terms of being friends they were still at the acquaintance stage. He didn’t want to reveal any mortal weaknesses to her quite yet. He worked hard to maintain that aloof and apathetic vibe, after all.

The two watched as she approached them, the both of them wearing a different sort of smile on their face- one more calm, and the other a bit mischievous. When asked if they wanted to warm up a bit, they both nodded, though Lyric made sure to squeeze his brother’s arm a bit as if to beg him to take it easy at first.

”Sounds good. That is, if you can keep up.” Cyril’s grin deepened as in one kick of his foot, he sent the two flying backwards. Controlled, but speedy nonetheless. He had the tendency to make things a competition anyway, but maybe he’s learn to take things easy for once today.

For some reason, Azucena was not all that surprised when Cyril decided to take off suddenly. Maybe it was the fact that she was used to people thinking that she was slower - not having enhanced speed, being a girl, or maybe it was the fact that Cyril had a look on his face she recognised... mischief.

In any case, when he took off, she darted off behind him, no slouch either when it came to skating. And after a second or two, taking the inside approach, Azu quickly siddled up next to the twins.

"That was a pretty good start," she said with a cheeky grin of her own, "But, can you do this?" she asked, speeding up, turning her body slightly as she positioned herself for a jump and did a toe loop, landing the jump quite gracefully.

Though they had zipped ahead, Cyril was at least humble enough to know that she was quick to catch up. And she was. The twins looked simultaneously as she skated on past, Lyric visibly impressed while Cyril smirked. Though, that didn’t seem to be all. Before Cyril could retort, Azu had proceeded to do a graceful spin and jump, skipping the land perfectly.

Admittedly impressed, Lyric did a small golf clap while Cyril folded his arms. ”Not bad. I’m impressed.” He looked at his brother, who nodded in agreement. Though they were proficient in ice skating themselves, tight, coordinated movements weren’t all that possible for them. So Cyril had to think of another plan.

”Not quite, but….” He looked at Lyric, who instinctively clung to him. ”I can do this.” He positioned his leg slightly behind him, using it to kick forward as he skated swiftly forward a few feet. He then tilted to his side, his brother clinging on as he did a camel spin, which ended in a small jump. He had to kick his other leg out in a wide circle around him, to regain his sense of balance. With that, they came back to her, Cyril stopping right beside her.

”I’m more of a big, sweeping motions kind of guy. Super rusty though.” He said, then looked at her with a deep smirk. ”Your turn.”

Azucena skated sideways around them, keeping up a quick pace as they did an impressive camel spin in the middle of the ice. Smiling at this, Azu clapped enthusiastically. She was actually quite surprised to see that they had done it so effortlessly considering the extra weight.

"Well, if you insist," Azucena said with a chuckle as she skated to the middle changing places with them. She then skated around in a circle for a bit to create a little bit of momentum, and then took a small jump into a camel spin exactly as the twins had, except as the rotations became less she leaned her body back grabbing her leg behind her as she spun for a few rotations before letting go and spinning to a stop.

"And I'm more into the little flourishes," Azucena laughed as she deliberately took an exaggerated bow.

Just as they had finished their stunt, Azu seemed to be ready for the next challenge. Cyril liked that, and Lyric was equally impressed. Though, Lyric knew he was a limitation to how much they could do. If there was one thing that Cyril did well, it was the fact that he tested their limits. Often to mixed results.

Still, there was something about watching her that struck a chord in Cyril. At least, in terms of an incentive to do more. Watching her spin, hold her body in an effortless sort of grace, and stick the finale was more than impressive. Usually, Cyril did these sorts of things by himself, for deep-rooted reasons he didn’t often discuss. But Azu was pretty non-judgemental it seemed outside of their banter. So, he would rise to her challenge again.

”Well damn, how much you been practicing?” He asked. ”You’re kind of a natural at this. Kind of.”

Lyric smirked a bit, the sort he did when he wanted to chide his brother for something he said. ”Aw come on, don’t be jealous.” He teased. Of course, that was one of Cyril’s buzzwords attached to his pride. Cyril rolled his eyes at him, scoffing.

”Jealous? Me? Never.” He said in a jokingly defensive tone. He looked back to Azu. ”Alright, Miss Flourish. Time to bring out the big guns.”

Just as she did, he removed them from her by a few feet, just to give some safe room. He gave a knowing look to Lyric, but this one a bit more to caution him. Lyric bit his lip. He knew what this meant.

Lyric clung to his brother’s shoulders as Cyril braced himself. Taking off in a sprint down the ice. He looked them past Azu, behind her back and part of the circumference of the lake. Then, when they were visible again, Cyril jumped up horizontally, performing a 360 degree axel jump. When it was time to land, he more or less stuck it, with a bit of a fumble on the last part. He regained himself, halting their skates abruptly as he stopped a few feet away from Azu.

”Hm. Could have done better on that last bit but hey, at least I didn’t fall down and bust my ass.” He said nonchalantly, folding his arms across his chest. ”Well, what do you think? Can you top that?”

"A natural, I dunno, maybe?" Azu replied sort of sheepishly and with a tiny shrug. She didn't know if she was a natural or not. She did know that she really enjoyed skating and tried to keep it up throughout the year by roller skating in summer and ice skating in winter.

When the twins took off to do their next jump, Azu twirled around very slowly on the ice as she watched Cyril and Lyric get into position for their next jump - which she had to admit was impressive, even with the fumble at the end.

"Wow," she said "THAT was pretty amazing," she admitted as she did a wide twirl. "I am not sure, I can top that," she admitted, "But I am certainly going to try..." she remarked laughingly as she took off, zooming past them and decided, instead of going the insanely difficult and often dangerous route - since she was just a non-magical mortal who didn't have amazing regenerating abilities - to go the looks harder than it is route, which was still difficult.

And with that she looped the boys three times, building momentum as she did a double axel toe loop that led into a basic corkscrew spin. It wasn't as difficult as the boys last jump but it had a lot more going to the jump.
