It was evening, so of course Frank was dragging Sharpe along on yet another trip between bars. Having been kicked out for nearly getting into a fight.

It was only because he unintentionally brought a sword to a fistfight that he wasnt stumbling around with a broken nose instead of an annoyed imp floating but him extolling the virtues of not being a drunk buffoon.

"I shoulda let them beat the snot outta you. Then maybe you'd let me get you cleaned up some. Get rid of that 'wet dog strained through dirty gym socks' aura you got there," Sharpe finished. It was harsh and biting, but well deserved criticism.

Frank in turn poured the rest of the bottle he'd been hiding in a brown bag right onto Sharpe and then slapped his big dumb hand on top of the imp's head to muss up their hair. Frank then slurred something about them being a pair now.

Bright green fury flashed in Sharpe's ragged eyes but they quickly turned their horns soft and flexible so Frank wouldnt impale his hand. As satisfying as that would've been it might have been a little against against their pact to do.

Sharpe fumed and floated off, nearly as far away from their infuriating human ball and chain as they could go. Which brought them out to a main road by a few of the more popular shops in the area. Sharpe paused to wring out their hood a little so it would stop dripping beer as they floated around.

It was around this time that Madeline walked out onto the street, carrying a milkshake she just got. Her favorite place for milkshakes was on this street. She had been going on late night milkshake runs pretty frequently lately, whether or not she had friends coming with her. It was comfort food. It's harder to be upset when you're busy enjoying something that delicious.

Tonight, she was enjoying a s'more flavored shake.

She noticed Sharpe, and noticed that they were all wet. She really felt for that little guy, with all the shit they had to put up with, and right now it looked like they were dealing with some serious bullshit.

"Sharpe? Are you okay?" Maddie walked over to them, concerned. They smelled like beer.

Sharpe rotated in the air to face the approaching teen and shrugged as they tucked their horns back through the peak of the no longer dripping hood.

"Oh this? Clearly I mistook a keg tap for a showerhead," they quipped sarcastically and lowered some as Maddie came close.

"I'll be fine- this is a normal night for Frank. Sucks to be the asshole that'll wake up covered in shredded pillow tomorrow though." The malicious glow in their eyes made it quite clear that Sharpe was plotting revenge. Ultimately harmless, but oh so satisfyingly annoying revenge.

Madeline frowned a little, and sipped her shake. It was pretty clear that Frank did this to them, and that really pissed her off.

She'd been dwelling on this. It gave her something to dwell on other than Anastasia. Frank sounded like a real asshole. Seeing Sharpe stuck with him was agony. Why did he get to have a magic talking sword? She wanted a magic talking sword.

"... You know what, screw this guy. Want me to help you get back at him? I got nothing better to do tonight." Her nocturnal friends were graduating. She didn't know if they were coming back.

Sharpe considered the offer. Technically they'd already discussed this kind of thing before and had agreed to it. Was this the right time though?

They shifted slightly and felt the dampness of their cloak and sniffed at the all-too-familiar scent of spilled beer. Oh yeah, Frank needed to suffer. Or at least be really annoyed. Sharpe didn't want him to actually get hurt. The bond of the wielder and wielded kinda thing.

"Ok squirt. Pretty sure he's still stumbling through alleys on the way to Marty's. Best way to get to him is ruin his quest for booze. Or ruin his booze itself if that doesn't work." Sharpe tapped their claws together in delight as they began to plot.

Madeline was smiling, a little too eager. This wouldn't be her first time tormenting someone with her powers, and it was far from her first time imagining or planning such a thing. Maybe she just wanted an excuse to actually do it. Finding someone deserving in her eyes made it all the sweeter, and so much easier to justify to herself.

"Alright. I think I know where that place is, so let's go... squirt." She smirked at the imp. Even if Sharpe was much older, it felt funny having them call her something like 'squirt.' They were so much smaller than her.

She started heading off in more or less the right direction.

"I hope we catch him in an alleyway. Do you know what I can do?"

She would walk him through it a little - she had illusion powers. They could hurt if she wanted them to, but not injure, and she had a scheme to keep Frank lost in the same alleyway for a long time. She could make the two of them invisible, and make it so frank couldn't hear them talk. She could also probably shut off Frank's ability to summon Sharpe for a little while, she thought, if Sharpe was ok with that.

Sharpe ran the edges of their claws against eachother with an accompanying unpleasant grating sound. "This should be amusing. But don't mess with the summoning. We do have an agreement with him, however annoying it might be." A deal was a deal- that was what had put Sharpe in this position in the first place.

They drifted along next to Maddie as they headed to intercept Frank. There was little doubt they'd get to him before he finished his stumbling meander between bars.

"Tell me, how often do you mess with people like this? Sounds like you have just the right skills and the right brain for the job, little one." Sharpe liked leaning into the small-jokes if someone seemed keen to point out how they weren't very big. It made things hilariously ironic to have an imp deliberately call someone else small. Especially since although Maddie was young, she was significantly taller than Sharpe.

It took Madeline a moment to answer. Partly because that touched on subjects she didn't like to admit she struggled with. Partly because he kept calling her small. At least that latter detail was growing on her a little bit.

"Well I guess I do, big guy." She smirked.

They walked a little farther as she thought about how, or whether, to talk about it. "I guess messing with people is kinda in my blood, being the kind of demon I am. If that's not, like, a racist thing to say." She shrugged. She didn't think much about the politics of that kind of thing. "I do stuff to mess with people a lot, but I've only gone all out like this a couple times. This guy just pisses me off, so."

Frank being this big of an asshole made it feel more justifiable. More tempting. She didn't even get like this about Xavier.

"Hey, you don't have to explain the blood thing. You're chattin' with a bonafide imp-sword forged in the fury and jealousy of wrath and envy hells kiddo. I get it. I can feel it in my not-so-polished blade." Sharpe indeed knew the feeling. Even with a decent wielder they would be a little ornery, though not nearly so bad as with the Asshole known as Frank.

"But with your plan and my keen insight and razor-sharpe wit we can make the drunken dick wander around for hours as dry as a box of cornflakes in the desert," they added with another gleam of delight radiating from their eyes. Truth be told Sharpe had been owned by plenty of terrible wielders. Not all demons or other powerful folk really gave much thought to how they cared for their weapons.

"Based on his slow ass walking and shitty sense of direction I bet he'll be in one of these next couple alleyways. Maybe we'll get lucky and he's tripped over some garbage and re-joined his people."

There was something really charming, to Madeline, about the way Sharpe talked. Sure, the puns were groan-worthy, but something about that cornflakes analogy left her giggling. He was a delight. His malicious glee resonated with something in her.

Maybe she would clown on this guy in a way inspired by Sharpe's rant just now. She could make a dumpster call him trashy, or maybe... there were many possibilities.

"Alright, let's sneak up on him." Madeline spent a few seconds concentrating on something - she wasn't looking at anything in particular, but Sharpe might notice her expression, her distractedness. If Sharpe looked in one of the darkened windows next to them, he might notice that their reflections had disappeared.

"I mean, we could shout in his face and he wouldn't notice if I don't want him to." She stepped into one of the alleyways, still sipping at her nearly-empty milkshake. "But this is basically sneaking around."
