Storm was a fading presence in and out of the ballroom, but she was always close by. She would shift into her wolf form and circle, using her heightened senses to keep on high alert.

She worried about Adelyn, Jax, Dalia, and Alain in the forest, but Lyn insisted…it would be okay. It was a full moon. Lyn’s newfound Berserk form would not cause additional chaos tonight. They just had to worry about Jax and Alain being feral. Lyn had also mentioned Jax seeming a little…off. She was not exactly sure what that meant, but Lyn insisted she would keep a close eye on him.

Adelyn…Storm could not stop thinking about her. The events of that week before the ball were a nightmare. Adelyn had learned the hard way she had the same Berserker ability as herself—the ability to become a werewolf without a full moon, but at the price of losing any semblance of humanity. And Lyn’s form was…strange, and nothing like her own.

And Lyn was scared. She did not want to hurt anyone she loved. But she also…came to terms with this new part of herself. She still went to the Ball. She was still protecting her friends with every ounce of love she had for them.

Adelyn was a far stronger person than she was, Storm thought. Storm was still a coward. She had told Lyn, admitted, that she too was a Berserker. But to tell her she was Lyn’s mother…no, she was still too scared.

Storm’s ears flicked as she looked around. She mostly kept catching Phaedra’s scent for the time being, but Phaedra was already being taken care of by others. Otherwise, there were no monsters coming near the school…at least, not yet. She would be prepared.

Deep down, she was exhausted. Stressed out. Agitated by prior events. But she pushed those things down. She would be prepared.

Raphael was ready for anything. He had to be. All sorts of monsters had been popping up around here - and man, they could hit like a truck. He heard about the Chimera by the bonfire, how it took a lot of people to bring it down. Each of those people was probably about as capable as he was.

But here he was, running around by himself near the ballroom. He was giving up on doing anything about Phaedra, the spider-girl that one of Angelo's kids had tipped him off about. In her current state, that girl could be a threat to the children here. She had been all over the place in these woods, so tracking her would be next to impossible. Hopefully her boyfriend would run into her. He had a plan for dealing with her, and he didn't need Raphael's help.

For now, he supposed, he was on patrol. Trying to find stray people or people in danger, being ready to call out on the radio if he saw a monster that needed dealing with. He had the tranquilizer gun on him, at least - for all the good that would do against one of these monsters. It stayed strapped to him well enough in his wolf form. The strap had the magic pin he usually kept in his hat - it would shift along with him, like the rest of his clothes.

Eventually, Raphael ran across a familiar face. He took a moment to give his wolf form the ability to speak, then cleared his throat. "Hey! What are you doing out here, Storm?" He hoped she would recognize his voice.

Just Storm and Raphael joined forces, the ground shuttered and tore apart. From the hole crawled out a gigantic, bug-inspired monstrosity, with horns where its eyes should have been, the tail of a scorpion, and legs with the strength and shape of a grasshopper.

The thing screeched in an unGodly fashion before giving off strange chirping sounds and looking directly at the two of them. Carnivorous teeth dripping with spittle and something green was the most evident thing about its face, due to a lack of lips.

Even its underside was hardened with an exoskeleton.

Storm was snapped out of her thoughts when Raphael spoke up. She looked up, looking for Raphael on two legs before she glanced down and realized he was on four in his wolf form.

"Ah, hello Officer," she responded. "I was just making rounds...I thought helping guard the school was where I could be most useful--"

And just as she started finishing up her sentence, her ears perked up as a loud rumble started to shake nearby. Soon the ground started to break open, and Storm stepped back.

"Sh-shit..." Storm snarled under her breath as the massive creature started to crawl out from the earth.

Raphael had been just about to say she shouldn't be out here alone - not without some kind of support. The ground opened up and supplied a very good reason for him to feel this way. He shifted into his hybrid form and got closer to Storm, putting his hand on his pistol as his utility belt came back into existence. He doubted this pistol would be able to pierce that exoskeleton. With legs like that, he didn't think they would be outrunning it either.

He sized it up quickly, trying to think up a plan of attack. His lupine instincts said to go for the legs or the throat. It probably didn't have a throat as vulnerable as the animals he was used to, and if they went for that or the legs, they would probably get stung by that nasty-looking tail. The tail should be their first priority, then.

"Alright." he said slowly, keeping his eyes on the creature, "If it wants to pick a fight, one of us should try to get behind it and go for the tail stinger. When the tail is under control, we get the legs." Despite the calm in his voice, he was terrified. He really hoped it didn't want to pick a fight. That green stuff looked nasty.

The bug skittered toward them in an odd pattern of start and stopped. The sound its feet made on the ground gave the impression of a cartoon spider.

Skitter, skitter, skitter. Pause. Skitter. Skitter. Skitter. Pause.

As it approached Ralph and Storm, feelers elongated from its mouth to gingerly feel at their faces. Briefly, there was some odd magic binding between the three of them.

No home, the intuition gave. Hurt.

The creature thumped one of its back legs.

Storm nodded to what Raphael said, calm and collected as she watched the creature and considered his words. She was plotting out how to get to the stinger first in her head.

Storm was ready to strike when the creature started approaching, its feelers coming toward them. She had grabbed at the one that had reached for her face, nearly ready to shred the thing apart--but the intuition caught her first. She let go of the feeler and stepped back.

"Wait," she said, holding her hand out toward Raph.

"You felt it too, right? I don't think it's here for a fight..."

She gestured her head toward the leg the creature thumped.

"It's already injured, too."
