"Here's the place" The little goblin had dolled herself up considerably. Her normal baggy shirt and long skirt replaced with what her sister Dorito had called a "Hoity-Toity little number", a dark blue dress with a slip up the left leg. She carried a purse and her long, green hair was done up into a bun. The little goblin even had makeup on, though it looked remarkably out of place on her features. She was going the whole nine yards for Chloe, though, and she wanted to show her the perfect time on their first date.

Cheeto had chosen a remarkably fancy restaurant. They would've had to wait months for a reservation were it not for Dorito using her powers to shift the guest list around. The spot was chosen for its fondue, which was said to be exquisite. The little goblin offered to take Chloe's hand and lead her to the door, giving her a warm and reassuring smile despite the fact that Cheeto herself was sitting on the edge of panic. It was hard enough to keep things together when she was so very out of her element, but she was trying to impress Chloe, a girl whom she had fallen for harder and faster than she thought possible. She remembered to breath, feeling herself calming just from being near Chloe, secretly begging whatever higher powers would listen that the night would go off without a hitch.

There were higher powers in this world, and at least one of them disapproved of Chloe’s decision to have a girlfriend. Not because they were both female; that part was fine. He thought that romantic relationships were a waste of time, and that getting a harem was what would make Chloe really happy. While he would still love her if she took it steady with a single person, he would disagree with her lifestyle.

Hopefully, Chloe’s father wouldn’t interfere with this date.

The half-demon was dressed up as much as she could manage. She even had custom-made shoes that fit her feet: specially made “gravity heels” with space for her talons. Her makeup job probably took her two hours to paint on her face, more because she screwed up and started over several times than for any other reason. Makeup felt really weird to her. She wasn’t used to it at all. Every second was a fight against the urge to wipe it off.

Despite all this effort getting dressed up, Chloe didn’t feel the same pressure as Cheeto. Getting dressed up and feeling pretty was fun, spending time with Cheeto was fun, and fondue was supposed to be delicious. Plus they were friends anyway. Chloe ate ice cream out of the tub with this girl before; impressing each other didn’t seem like a big priority.

Chloe let the goblin lead her by the hand. “I heard they do some kind of magical thing with the fondue here,” she said. Her excitement showed clearly on her face.

A warmth spread through Cheeto, it started in the palm of her hand and spread up to her chest, then from there from her head to her toes. She looked up at Chloe with a smile, the kind of smile you can only truly share with someone you trust completely. "Fondue it is!" She had a bit more of a spring in her step, opening the door to the restaurant.

The inside was warm, welcoming, the air filled with a heady mix of mouth-watering flavours and scents. The walls were a strong shade of red, with dark burgundy curtains and rosewood paneling. Even though lighting was plentiful, there was this sense of pressure, of darkness, yet of refinement. The staff wore formal uniforms, the Maitre de looked at the two of them. He was a tall man, clearly taking his work quite seriously, it seemed like he wasn't even breathing as he looked at the two of them, the goblin and the demon holding hands...

"T-Table for two. We have a reservation under Ch-Cheeto." She was clearly intimidated by the man, yet he simply looked over the list of reservations and directed the two of them to a small alcove by the wall. The sound of a string quartet filled the restaurant, though there was hardly a sound coming from any of the other booths. The booth the two were sent to was surprisingly spacious, a circular table ringed with a soft, padded bench. The center of the table was concave, the fondue pot resting in the center with a mist lurking just below the lip of it. There were plates laid out for them as Cheeto smiled and nodded a 'thank you' before crawling up onto the bench and taking her seat.

The maître d’ set two menus down on the table, along with a wine list. Chloe slid into the booth across from Cheeto and sat down, grinning. “I still can’t get over how fancy this place is,” she said. “They have live classical music and everything.”

In all the time Chloe and Cheeto had known each other, they’d never been on a proper date before. It was always low-pressure, hanging-out-as-friends kinds of things. If not for all those times their hanging out ended with them sharing a bed, it would have been easy to mistake them for regular geeky friends.

The half-demon glanced at the wine list. “Since I’m actually a thousands-of-years-old demon,” she began, her smile turning mischievous, “What do you think about us getting some wine? I could cover it if you’re worried about the price.”

Chloe had made jokes about her age before. Even though she was really, truly 16, her birth certificate effectively didn’t exist, and she didn’t have any sort of ID. Who was anyone to say that she wasn’t thousands of years old?

She had barely finished making her offer before their waiter showed up – a broad-shouldered tree of a man with a deep voice and what seemed to be leaves instead of hair and bark instead of skin. He filled their glasses with water from a small vial; he seemed to be pouring more water from that vial than should be able to fit in the vial. “Good evening, ladies. My name is Vaughan and I will be serving you tonight. Would you care for anything to drink aside from water?”

Cheeto spoke up, her voice still sounding nervous as she looked up at Vaughan. "C-C-Could we have some wine?" She looked at Chloe, feeling reassured, smiling, as though the mere sight of Chloe was enough to warm Cheeto, to take away everything distracting or distressing her. The little goblin turned back to Vaughan quickly, big ears flopping slightly with how quickly she turned her head. "A white wine, sweet, please." She leaned up in her seat a bit, lowering her voice. "The most expensive sweet, white wine you got, please?"

She didn't want to mention how much of her budget she was dedicating to this date, she was desperate to impress Chloe. It'd be hard to make ends meet for the next month or so but Chloe was worth it, and Cheeto had no problems with that. The reservations alone cleaned out her entertainment budget for this and next month. Cheeto kept her poker-face up, though. She wouldn't trade this for anything in the world, looking over at Chloe after placing her order. "Unless you'd like something else, Chloe?" She was willing to go the distance, do whatever it took to please Chloe on this date, and nothing was gunna come between her and that goal.
