Focusing...

Out in a beautiful forest clearing, Kenta sat formally on his knees, his eyes closed and hands on his lap. His tails were fanned out behind him, seeming stiff as opposed to their usual gentle swaying. He seemed to be focusing hard on something, or at least trying to.
Around him, signs of springs coming were abundant. The sun was high and a warm breeze swayed the trees branches gently. Birds were singing, flowers were beginning to bloom. On days like this... Maybe he could do this.

Shay was sat quietly at the trunk of a tree, her knees to her chest and her chin to her knees as she watched him. She was being as quiet as she could manage, which was pretty damn silent, so he didn't have to focus harder.

Watching him only made Shay feel worse. None of it was her fault, she knew that, but she still felt so useless. Powerless to help her (dare she say) friend. Maybe if she had some abilities worth a shit, she could do something.

It had been almost an hour of this. At least it was a nice day. But... Nothing. He couldn't get anything. No contact, no memories... Nothing.
A light breeze blew his hair about and let it fall into his face. His nose would twitch, and then he'd sneeze.
"..." His tails relaxed and he fell back into the grass, letting out a groan of frustration and flailing about in a short tantrum before going limp and laying there, defeated. "Ugh..."

Shay stood and ambled over to him, sitting beside him. She reached out with her gloved hand and rubbed his belly for a second, flashing a smile. "What have you been calling him? Maybe you outta give him a name? Make it more personal?"

He looked up at her and gave a weak smile. "A name..? I've just kinda been calling him things like monster and demon... You think a name will help?"

Shay rolled her eyes and laughed a hint. "Well, calling him demon and monster aren't going to make him talk to you. Start small. Try remembering a name. Maybe try calling him one of the names for the legend?"

"Mm..." He sat up and nodded. "Alright. Lets see... There was bloody... something... Oh, maybe Gin-Shi. That sounds like a name, right?"

"I guess a Japanese one," Shay said with a shrug and a smile. "That might work. Try to be as neutral as possible when you're calling out. Nothing too friendly or aggressive."

He smiled and nodded again. Kenta got back into the same position, eyes closed. He started trying to focus again, but... It wasn't long before he lost focus again, his stomach growling loudly and echoing in the empty area. Kenta looked at her and let out a nervous laugh.
"I... um... He said he's hungry." He said jokingly.

Shay stood and walked over to her backpack, having expected this. She pulled out a lunch box and brought it over to him. It contained a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, some chips, and juice.

"Eat and get back to it. No more distractions." Shay sat again and pushed the lunchbox toward him. She wondered if it was his fear that was blocking him? That seemed likely.
