Sonny wasn't very good at this whole "school" thing.
It's not like he hadn't tried- he really, really had. But the climate, the people, the light, it was just... really overwhelming (and that's not to mention the actual content of his lessons). More than anything else, it made him feel weird; sort of prickly, his face burning in a feeling he couldn't convey. He felt like one of the rabbits back home, its foot caught in a snare and its little heart racing. Like something was going wrong and he was just too slow to avoid it.
So he couldn't help it- he retreated, back to the nearest thing to home he saw.
The lake was placid, its surface reflecting cleanly as Sonny found his perch; far enough out for him to avoid the bright voices of his classmates, but right by the edge of the lake's shallow waters. If he were being honest, it wasn't just homesickness that drove him here: the sight of fish flicking their tails attracted his eye too. He was hungry.
He stared, intent, and readied himself before driving his nails cleanly through a bass' side.

The morose teen was far too busy with his (improvised) meal to notice anyone approaching- something quite telling about his emotional state, considering his senses.
