Assigned something called a 'roommate', Asteria wandered the halls, painfully lost. She was still very new to this massive structure of a school, and had some issues navigating between her disability and her own personal lack of attention. Sticking close to the right wall, Asteria figured that she had to get where she was going eventually if she just hung close to one side. Feeling the breathy whisper and quiet steps of other bodies passing her, Asteria's heart rate quickened as time elapsed. She had been told a room number, 594. The last door she had passed was somewhere in the 580s, and she figured she had to be close by now.

Reaching up to touch the number on one such door she passed, she was a little disappointed to find it was 598. Backtracking, she counted the doors until she stood in front of her own. Checking to make sure that it was indeed, hers, Asteria sighed as she shuffled around in her pockets, hunting for her key. Feeling stared at, Asteria quickly shoved it into the lock, turning it over and sliding inside. She didn't have very much baggage, just a single duffle filled with odds and ends, and the occasional piece of clothing.
Scooting to once side of the room, Asteria huddled up in her bed, tugging the blankets over her head. Maybe her roommate wouldn't even show, or worse. Maybe her roommate was one of those ugly humans who weren't very much fun. There really needed to be more gods on this stupid island.

Mia wasn'€™t far behind Asteria as she went searching for her room. This was the first time she would actually be living with someone else. She had always been a vagrant that just wandered and slept where she could, so being stuck in one place with one person was going to be weird. But maybe it would be fun! Maybe they could go out shopping and partying together! On the other hand, maybe they wouldn'€™t get along at all. Crap; what if they'€™re a goody-two-shoes who tells the faculty whenever they catch her with alcohol or a cig?

She grinded her teeth at the thought, but she didn'€™t want to remain negative either. Things would work out, wouldn'€™t they?

Reaching room 594, Mia pulled out her key and put it into the lock, €”only to realize that the door was already unlocked. Well, the roommate was already here; a wave of nervousness hit her, but she wasn'€™t going to let that show as she stepped into the room--€”lugging her large rolling suitcase behind her.

Inside, she came face-to-face with her new roommate--€”damn she was pretty. She caught herself staring and quickly glanced over at the empty bed instead.

"Hey babe!€” Guess we'€™re roommates, huh?"€ she said casually as she tossed her big suitcase onto the bed.

It wasn'€™t just the fact that Asteria was pretty that made Mia stare. She felt something. A sense of familiarity to a girl she had never met before? It was weird. She had never felt that before when looking at another person.

She suddenly whirled around, and her school skirt--which seemed awfully short compared to everyone else'€™s school uniform, fluttered around her thighs. Her shirt was partly unbuttoned and tied to expose cleavage and her stomach, €”along with the little rose belly button ring she had on.

"My name is Mia," she said, glancing at the girl skeptically. She was so cute, but Mia suspected she might also be the '€˜goody-two-shoes' type that would tell on her. And she still couldn'€™t pinpoint what that weird sense of familiarity was. Mia had a hard time believing that the two would have anything in common based on looks alone, so--what could it be?

Settling back into her bed, Asteria was more or less beginning to feel more comfortable in her new surroundings. The air around her had settled, and she had begun sifting through the smells of her room much like an animal might. Kicking herself back against the wall, she managed to relax her muscles, feeling at least a little more content with a solid mass against her back.
However, her peace was quickly disturbed when she heard the door swing open, and her fingers automatically clutched at the blanket underneath her. Her head tilted, and she could hear a loud thump as something seemed to bounce off the other bed. Had her new roommate immediately pounced the bed? That was one way to do it, she supposed.
"I... Yes. I suppose we are ... Babe?" Asteria had only merged with humans in the last 60 years or so, and still had quite a lot of catching up to do on lingo and clothing styles. For now, she decided that she would use her roommate as something as a test subject, someone to copy off of to get herself caught up.

There was something different about the presence in here, though. It felt... Comfortable. Like she had known it before. She wished an awful lot that she could see her roommate right now, but she supposed it would have to wait until nightfall. "I'm Asteria. I'm a human. You have a pretty name." Her customary greeting fell out of her mouth, and Asteria sat up proudly, fixing her sightless eyes on where the voice appeared to be coming from.

There was a big grin on Mia’s face when Asteria complimented her name. Well, even if her new roommate was potentially a good-two-shoes type, at least she was sweet enough to throw a compliment her way. Mia liked compliments. She wasn’t completely self-absorbed, though! She liked to give them, too.

“Thank you! I like your name too. Asteria…makes me think of a clear night sky, or something,” Mia said as she tapped one of her slender fingers, nailed adorned in sparkly pink nail polish, to her chin thoughtfully. “Have you seen the lake here in the middle of the night with the stars reflected on it? It reminds me of that!”

Well, as far as first impressions were concerned, Mia was quite alright with this girl. She was already sick of introductions, and wanted to jump right into being friends. She had come to learn over the years that relationships don’t quite work that way though. So, this was the part where she got nosy and started asking questions to learn more about the other person!

Mia suddenly hopped onto Asteria’s bed and started nudging their shoulders together.

“Let’s be gal pals, alright?” she said with a wink and a giggle. “Come on though--you not just a human. None of us are. I’m certainly not,” she said as she suddenly hopped off the bed as quickly as she had hopped onto it.

“I just so happen to be the daughter of Aphrodite and Hephaestus,” she said as she pulled herself into a dramatic pose with a smooth motion of her arms. She opened her hands, and suddenly there were flames burning in her hands. When she had first merged with humans, she learned pretty quickly that showing off her powers to humans was not a good thing. But now she was at a school on a island specifically for people with special abilities! It was a relief to not have to be so hush-hush about it...and plus Mia just liked to be a show-off.

“So, you know, that just makes me a Goddess. No big deal,” she said with a laugh as she snapped her hands shut, making the fire dissipate.

“So? What about you?” she asked as she sat back down next to Asteria on her bed. “What can you do?”

Asteria tilted her head briefly - a tumble of opalescent locks falling over her shoulder. Well, yes, she was the goddess of the night, she would hope that her name reminded someone of the nighttime. A sudden dip in her bed alerted her that something had landed on it, and Asteria sat up suddenly, her eyes wide and searching in vain. Her shoulder was pushed against gently and the action was completely lost on her. "Gal ... Pals?" What a foreign word. She had never heard of that.

Who she had heard of, were Aphrodite and Hephaestus. Giving a derisive snort, Asteria decided it would perhaps be in better taste to keep her opinions to herself. Though the world seemed to more or less love the goddess, Asteria did not like the vindictive woman one bit. Couldn't even stay faithful to her husband. Her nose twitched at the boasting tone, and her forehead wrinkled. Being a goddess was no more than a party trick to her new roommate, it seemed, and she couldn't help but look down at the girl a little. "Hm. I'm the daughter of Helios and Ceto, goddess of the prophecies borne to the night, and the stars who shine in the sky. Mother of Death and lover to Destruction. But no big deal, right?" A small smile twitched at the corners of her mouth; if this girl wanted to be a show off, Asteria would gladly match her. She hoped she hadn't come off as too rude there, and she ducked her head for a moment. "But that's all I'm really good for on earth. Zeus took my powers, I'm useless until the night falls. I can't even see without the stars out."

“Oh…I see…” Mia murmured as she lowered her arms. Well, that put a bit of a damper on Mia’s ‘impressive’ powers. She went from feeling like a Big Damn Fish in a small pond to a…hm…maybe a medium fish in a medium pond, or something.

“Well! That explains why they probably put us as roommates, right? ‘Cause we’re similar that way,” and damn did Mia wish she realized that before she got all cocky. But despite her failed attempt at showing off, it was pretty cool to finally know someone like herself! Not only were they both demi-Goddesses, but both Greek at that! That part was pretty cool…but, damn it, it would have been cool to be the Greek Goddess around the school. Oh well.

“To be perfectly honest, I haven’t met anyone else from our religion,” Mia said as she sat back down besides Asteria. “I was stuck in a volcano for so damn long, by the time I got out, the religion was dead and everyone was gone. Though on the plus side, Zeus can’t give us his annoying punishments anymore.”

And at the mention of that, Mia peered curiously into Asteria’s eyes. “So you’re really blind without the stars? I mean, can you see me at all right now?”

Asteria shrugged, a small smile gracing her lips. "Perhaps. I'm almost surprised I wasn't stuck with Anubis, to be quite honest." She had sensed him more than a few times across the campus-- it was hard to ignore that strong of a presence, no matter how hard she tried. "Ah. I suppose I'm keen on not being sexually persued by the gods. It gets awfully difficult when you've got someone trying to sit on you every few seconds." In that respect, she was glad she was able to turn into a little quail. No one wanted to molest a bird. Well, no one that she had come across yet.

"Ah-- No, not really." Squeaking, Asteria drew back into herself a little, feeling a little protective now that she was aware Mia was a goddess. As much as she was grateful for the kinship, she knew that such beings had an incredible sex drive, and an even greater penchant for wicked tricks. "I don't usually venture outside unless it's at night... I don't like being so exposed during the day. Even after fifty years, I've ... I haven't gotten used to not being able to see yet."

“Heh, Anubis hangs around here too? Weird,” Mia said with a giggle. Though come to think of it, she had felt something around the school—a pervasive presence. It may have been him. Now she was curious and wanted to meet Anubis—Greek and Egyptian Gods mingling…

“Oh, I see. I managed to miss out on that…’fun’,” Mia replied, scowling and making finger quotation at the word ‘fun’. But then her scowl turned into a laugh.

“I guess it’s weird I wouldn’t be into that consider who my mama was,” she shrugged. “But I’ve heard all about how forceful they can be and that’s just…gross. Like, my body is mine, and I am pretty damn picky about who gets to be anywhere near it. I guess I didn’t inherit that side of my mom.”

Mia let out a little sigh as she thought about it. It was a bit weird for her—being a Goddess but not living among others, including her parents. She couldn’t help but wonder if it was sad, or if she dodged a bullet in that respect. Strange things happened amongst Gods and Goddesses. How often did Asteria get pursued to the point that she would rather live blind among humans? Well, she was a quite beautiful…her light hair and bright eyes. Eyes that she was still surprised couldn’t see anything—they were so bright, Mia felt like they could see through you, rather than not see at all.

And she realized she was staring a little too long into those eyes. Good thing Asteria couldn’t possibly notice that…er, right?

“Well, when the stars come out, make sure you get a good look at me so you know who your roommate is, okay?” Mia said, shutting her eyes with a big grin. Stop staring! “And if you need help doing something during the day, I got your back—okay?”
