First and Final

Military! That was good. It was some nice solid common ground between them, a thing they could talk about. Evan was of two minds when it came to whether or not he considered himself a military man, and whether he did tended to vary depending on how he was feeling from moment to moment. No matter how he felt though, he still had military experience, which would still work, wouldn't it?

"I was a part of the military the last few years," Evan said, trying to start an actual conversation that wasn't a whole lot of Jugemu feeling very tense. "I'm not sure how I felt about it, even now, but that had less to do with the work and more to do with the circumstances of the work."

Jugemu seemed shocked. Really shocked, which Evan figured made sense based on what he knew about Evaristus. He wouldn't have been in the military. Evan himself had never had any interest in that either. Their lives had deviated in a very significant way, and while Evaristus was familiar, Evan probably wasn't.

"Uh, they probably didn't really tell you anything about where I came from I guess. To give you the short version, we didn't have any non-humans, just humans with powers. A few years back, the veil got broken, and everyone found out about us. My family-"

Evan paused, unsure if he wanted to tell him, before deciding he might as well.

"My family got killed, and since it runs in families I got rounded up along with a lot of other people. Since my skill's useful, and since I was willing to cooperate, I ended up on a team aligned with the US military. We rounded up other aberrant, and helped deal with aberrant issues. A lot of the times we were just glorified supernatural hitman, but they made an effort of trying to train us and make us feel like a real military team."

Which meant dogtags, uniforms, the whole bit.

He had a lot of questions, really, but he didn't know where to start. It took him a moment to decide that from the basics was probably ideal, and he made a gesture towards the door.

"This house isn't the one I grew up in. Similar size, but totally different inside. So I guess Evaristus had a room, and it's now mine?" Might as well find out where he was sleeping. It had been a slow day, but it felt impossibly long, dragged out by a whole lot of questions being asked and answered, and he was, being honest with himself, pretty ready to sleep.

"Oh, and did he have a job I have to be up for tomorrow?"

No work. Part of Evan wasn't thinking past nice, I can sleep in for once, but the other part couldn't help but be suspicious. Yeah, they didn't want to overwhelm him, but still...

Training as the heir, apparently.

"Yeah, might as well show me."

His room reminded him of the room he'd had as a kid. Not because it was childish--his room had never been childish--but because of the sheer size of it, the massive bed, the fact that the whole thing had so clearly been organized by an interior designer. Everything matched. It looked nothing like the apartment he'd lived in after he'd moved out, which had been slapped together out of whatever happened to be cheap and suit his needs.

"I'll see you in the morning, I guess?" Evan said, glancing back to Jugemu.
