Monday was working behind the counter in his shop below, Garymede was attending classes at the academy, leaving only them within the living space. Monday had assigned them some chores while he was busy handling customers. They were mostly little things however, making sure clean up dishes left in the sink and dusting off the novelties that Monday uses as decorations. These tasks Candle has long finished and was now completely without any task to perform. It would be several hours before Monday would close shop or for Ganymede to return so in the meantime stood in the middle of the empty. They eye the gas oven stove, scrubbed and cleaned to brilliant shine, and thinks.

As she stands in front of the stove, she lights each of the four burners to the highest setting. As the sparkler ignites the stream of gas, each burn glows with strong blue flame. Candle then looks around one more time, double checking that were indeed alone then looks stove top as it cooks... nothing. They only wanted watch fire come to life. After staring at stove long enough they began to feel a hunger deep inside of them. The taste of flame so tantalizing in front of them.

Perched on the window sill, hiding behind the kitchen curtain, Garry had been sulking because Monday had banned him from the shop for the day. Supposedly sharpening his beak on an old 18th-century teak side table was a no-no.

And so when Monday had left, and after making sure he had made his displeasure known by snapping at Monday when he tried to feed him, Garry finally emerged from his hiding spot in the kitchen.

Ruffling his feathers a bit, Garry watched very curiously as Candle cleaned the kitchen. After she was done, he noticed her move to the stove and light the fire. Curious as to why, Garry cocked his head a little to the side, turning it a little more sideways, as he tried to see what she was doing at the stove.

"Can-dle?" he finally chirped in a high voice. "Candle, Candle, Candle..." he repeated happily in a sing songy way and finally flew across the kitchen to where she was at the stove, landing close to the fire.

"Candle?" he chirped again as he bobbed happily in front of her. "Fire," he added happily as he blew a small flame into the air and turned around once, proud of himself.

Candle jerks their head to look at the squawking parrot calling their name. The one that their master Monday brought in and called called Garry. Normally Candle cared little for such creatures but this Garry creature has garnered some affections from them since Monday brought the bird to his home. Maybe the could relate to its captivity much like themselves, or being able to appreciate a creature that can draw strength from fire. They were at least amused by it calling to them like excited toddler.

"Ah Garry. I had not notice you were also here." admitted Candle. It was an unexpected arrival but one that they welcomed.

The parrot looked to at the fire Candle left burning on the stove, then coughed up a small flame of his own. Candle stanched the little flame and held it between her gloved fingers as though she caught a bug by its wings. The flame wriggles about while Candle looked at the little fire before Garry with the faintest him of pride.

"Yes. Indeed a fine little fire you have. Your right to be proud of yourself." congratulated Candle, before popping the fire Garry made into her mouth like a piece of candy. "Thank you for the morsel. Its only fair that I present for you a snack as well."

Candle then holds her hand out for Garry to perch himself on should he chose to. Whatever the case, she would then switch the burners off and walk over to a pantry cabinet, present the parrot a wide range of snacks that the parrot could choose from.

"What would Garry like?" asked Candle as she looks at all of the foodstuffs.

Watching in awe as Candle took and ate his flame, Garry made a happy noise and bobbed up and down excitedly, and when she outstretched her hand he happily jumped up onto it, careful not to claw her too tightly as he settled down on her hand.

When they entered the pantry, Garry flapped his wings and let out a contented bird sound at Candle's offer, "Peanuts, pea-nuts..." he chirped excitedly, stretching out the last word a bit when she asked what he'd like as a treat.

Candle nods reaches for the container of peanuts as Garry requested. They pop open lid and though they might not care for the nutty aroma, they were certain that their feathered friend was getting excited by the smell. They hold the now opened container with one hand while with the other she plucks out a single peanut and offers it to Garry.

"A peanut, as you request Garry. Of all of the beings on this strange plane, you I tolerate the most."

Gently and quite deftly taking the peanut from Candle with his foot, Garry looked at her, immediately noticing the change of tone in her voice and cocked his little blue head a little to one side, "Can-dle?" he chirped, "You sad?" he said in broken bird talk.

"Sad?" asked Candle, understanding what the word meant but the idea of being sad felt... foreign to them "I do not know. What I do feel is... anger. Anger of being trapped in this place I asked not to be, anger for being disregarded as but tool by uncaring masters whom I consider lesser, anger for being stuck in form that serves only to sexual me, anger for allowing myself tricked to being stuck in this miserable plane and... anger for... not being able to go to the home I long to return."

Candle's healthy orange glow smolders to dimmer and redder glow as they try to comprehend what it means to be sad. They felt constantly angry but... didn't know if this particular anger was the same as sadness or not. After some reflection, they look to Garry still dim and red but still maintain her usual stoic expression.

"Is that same as being sad?" asked Candle, looking to Garry for his wisdom.

Garry gnawed contently on the peanut as Candle spoke. And it may have seemed like the little bird wasn't paying attention, but that was far from the case. In fact, when he was done his treat, Garry hopped up Candle's arm, and began to stroked her hair with his beak, gently pulling and playing with the strands as she spoke.

And when she was done, Garry placed a foot lightly against her head, ruffled his feathers and chirped sadly, "Can-dle, no hap-py."

Then pulling her hair again, this time with his foot, as if trying to soothe her, Garry added, "Can-dle need friend," he chirped sagely.

"I have not been happy for a long time." grumbled Candle as her color returns to her. They could feel Garry trying to comfort them by reached out for the "hair" on their head. Of course considering their physiology they never seem to be able actually grab onto anything as the flames slip and wrap around the fingering talons. Candle however understood it as Garry's way of showing solidarity.

"Do I? I've never had one to call upon as friend. Might you be my friend Garry?" inquired Candle, setting the peanut container on the nearby counter and reaching for the back of Garry's head for head scratches. They had observed how Garry seemed to have enjoyed such with Monday and figured the macaw deserved a bit of affection.

As the flames weaved and wrapped around his talon, Garry listened to Candle, hearing her words, understanding them, but more than that he noticed their tone and how she changed colours when she spoke, reminding him of the flames he could produce.

When Candle scratched him, Garry cooed happily and nipped softly at her hand. "Garry friend," he piped up happily. He liked having friends, he especially liked the attention he got from big human-like friends.

"Garry like Candle," he added giving a little shake of his feathers and paused as he then sat, perching himself on Candle's shoulder. "Monday like Candle," he chirped happily.
