Name: Findabhair O'Leary
Pronunciation: Fin-a-veer
Nicknames: Finn, Finny
Age: 20
Birthday: February 3
Gender: Female
Species: Half-Human/Half-Leprechaun
Category: Student
Class: College
Grade: Freshman
College Major: Physical Education
Sexuality: Straight
Nationality: Irish
Appearance Description:
At 4'5" tall, Finn is quite short without being a midget. She has a petite, athletic figure that is just curvy enough to show that she's a woman. She has wide green eyes and ginger hair, which is usually cut into a short pixie cut. Finn's easy grin and casual bearing usually lead her to appear more impish than cute, which is just the way she likes it. Her preferred style is generally feminine tomboy, when she's not performing, but she'll occasionally wear miniskirts because she loves to show off her legs. She gravitates towards neutral and autumn colours, but will sometimes wear green. She has a small shamrock tattoo on her left hip.
Personality Description:
Findabhair is extroverted, competitive, and always up for a good time. She's also selfish and greedy - she does not like to share. She is not lazy, she's willing to push her limits, physically and mentally and believes in striving for the top. She respects people who work at what they do, whatever it is that they do. Finn doesn't like people who just rest in their abilities without trying to improve them. The girl prefers sleight of hand and clever illusion to actual magic, even though she's sort of a magical creature herself.
Not that she doesn't use her powers - Finny is a performer and a trickster at heart. Her pranks can get mean-spirited, but they're usually harmless, if sometimes elaborate. She loves to show off her body too, in the acrobatics sense mostly, though flirting can be fun as well. As hard as she works her body, she is almost as reckless at play. She's a bit of a daredevil, doesn't back down from a challenge, and enjoys a good gamble, though otherwise, she can be very thrifty to the point of cheapness with her money. She likes to go to parties for dancing and general wildness, but actually drinks very little and doesn't do drugs, preferring to stay in control.
Though outgoing and somewhat popular, Finny is not a nice person. She has no problem with lying, stealing, and cheating to get her way. If she fought with someone, she'd fight dirty, but would generally prefer to avoid fighting at all, either by getting out of the situation or by using other people to do her dirty work. She has no problem throwing people under the bus to save her own skin. She's not particularly loyal, and generally has no empathy for others. But she's not deliberately mean either, though she could come off as a bitch just by speaking her mind bluntly. She generally views her friends as her possessions, but this means she'd stand up for them and protect them as fiercely as any other thing she owned, although she wouldn't be the shoulder to cry on.
Secretly, Findabhair has an acute case of pyrophobia. Any fire bigger than a candle-flame terrifies her causing her to freeze up. The only people who know about this are her mother and the members of her troupe.
Species Abilities:
Fae Heritage - Finn is semi-immortal in that she's ageless and will not die of old age, but otherwise completely human. She's not invulnerable or immune to disease. She heals about twice as fast as a normal human but does not regenerate. She has a moderately severe iron allergy - it will cause her skin to burn and blister painfully. Iron-inflicted injuries would heal at half the rate of a normal human.
Money Sense - If she concentrates, she can sense the direction of all money (paper or coins, not electronic money) within a 20-foot radius, only blocked by iron. She can't tell the value, and will also sense play money, parking tokens, and even chocolate coins. She can point in the direction of the money but would have to stop concentrating to walk towards it. Multiple sources of money all are sensed at once, and she has no ability to focus in, but this ability does not really tire her.
Money Magnet - Within five feet, she can summon any loose, sensed money into her hand. She has no control over what she summons, and usually only gets a few cents this way. This money cannot be in anyone's possession (being held, or in a wallet, pocket, or purse, etc.) and cannot be in a safe, cash register, or bank. She can only summon money that no one else is looking at. She can only use this ability three times a day.
Sticky Fingers - Money in her possession (being held, in a pocket, or in her purse/wallet and within arms reach) cannot be stolen from her. She must willingly give up the money. She can be coerced or tricked into doing so. This does not include electronic money/debit cards/credit cards.
Fairy money - Can produce up to five gold coins at a time. Once given to another person, these coins vanish within 10 - 30 minutes or until touched by iron. She can have no more than five given out at once. So if she gives someone one coin, she can only produce four more, until that one vanishes, etc.
Powers:
Prank summoning - As a kind of inverted wish giving, Finn can sacrifice some money to get a small prank item. She just throws her money in the air and it turns into the item. What she gets is not under her control, but generally the more she spends, the better the item. The items last roughly five minutes per dollar spent, up to an hour. These items are generally useless things like whoopee cushions, rubber chickens, and balloons. They might also be small items of clothing such as hats or scarves. She has also gotten sprays of glitter, small smoke bombs, and water pistols.
Biography:
Findabhair was raised by her mother in a little town in County Cork in Ireland until they moved to Manta Carlos when she started showing her powers around the time she was 13. She was an only child and her mother doted on her as much as she could. Her mom wasn't always able to be around, being a single working mom, but at least she didn't have to vie for attention with siblings. The girl knew from a young age that she was special. Her mom was very fond of telling the story of her birth and what a strange thing it was, although Finny wasn't sure she believed any of the magic bits before coming to Manta Carlos.
According to her mother, Findhabair's father was actually a leprechaun she had come upon, stuck in a fence. He had been oddly short, though nowhere near as short as in the stories, and he hadn't appeared to be a wrinkly old man at all. Finn's mom had been quite taken with him and had promptly rescued him, only to be told she would be granted a wish in return for her kindness. Being a silly teenager, and not quite believing this strange young man, she had jokingly said, "I want your baby." She had thought nothing of it when he'd offered a kiss presumably instead, especially since they kept running into each other after that. One thing led to another and eventually her wish had been granted. The leprechaun had stuck around for a little while after that, but being a solitary creature, he'd left around the girl's second birthday.
Other than this strange story, which she didn't even know wasn't an elaborate fairytale, the half-leprechaun had had a pretty normal childhood. She was a bit of a troublemaker, especially after coming to the academy, but nothing terrible. She was also heavily into gymnastics and acrobatics. Until coming to Starlight Academy the only incident of note in her life had been on one day, not long after her father had left, when she'd been hiding in the kitchen and a fire had started. Fortunately for the toddler, her mom had been close by and was able to put out the fire before it spread much farther than the stove, which had had a short. Finn hadn't been injured by the flames, but smoke had filled the cupboard where she'd been playing, and the fear had just never gone away.
Discovering her powers had almost been nothing out of the ordinary as well, especially considering her mother's story. Finn wasn't even sure when she'd realized she could sense money, and she suspects that she might not even have crossed SA's radar, if she hadn't tried using her powers for shoplifting. She had gotten in quite a lot of trouble at home, but other than a scolding nothing had come of it except being sent to the academy to finish up her schooling. Her mom even moved with her.
She discovered the prank summoning after being at SA for a little while, so it wasn't notable at all. After experiencing all the life on the island, Findabhair decided to stay and attend college as well, not wanting to go back to a mundane life just yet. She was also a member of a small performing troupe similar to Cirque de Soleil, but on a much smaller scale. They did use magic to enhance their performances, although still relying mostly on their talent, but the nature of their acts made it easy to pass off as special effects to outside viewers, they just didn't have many yet.
Additional Information:
Findabhair doesn't generally use her magic in her performances. She performs trapeze and highwire acts.
