Family was such a crazy thing to deal with. This was something Gwyn understood in life and in his unlife. When he wasn't dealing with business with his club, he spent just as much time doting on family members. It was during some of said down time that he met another one of his in laws, Samara. Apparently her use of dark magic had made her a black sheep of the family to a degree. That in turn led to this current situation. He had no place to stay at the moment. And the only other person making an offer was an overly enthusiastic lich whom he placed very little trust in. He was at least family, sort of. They'd already made arrangements to go to this wedding together anyway. He didn't mind putting her up in his guest room until she could find a proper residence of her own or someone she'd be more comfortable with.

Being a dragon, even things he wasn't hoarding still fell under the category of "his". Naturally, his apartment was kept meticulously neat. He made a point of doing as much, maybe even more so given the nature of his abilities. All in all he thought it was a rather cozy apartment, larger and more accommodating than one would expect. It was also quite warm, cozy even.

"So I suppose the first order of business is letting everyone know you're not out in the cold. And, your room is down the hall, second one on the left," he gestured to where he was talking about before continuing, "The bathroom should just fit you, it's at the very end of the hall. And my room's right across from yours. Um, you hungry?"

Samara was staring wide-eyed at the entire home. It was very different than home looked in her world, but even without those differences, this was not the type of place Samara normally would have holed herself up in.

It wasn't that Gwyn lived in squalor, but that Sam was very particular about her space. She didn't like to share it with anyone, was the thing.

Gwyn's home was clean enough, but Samara wasn't sure who had touched anything. Where it had come from. It made her skin crawl. Like thousands of ants were crawling under her scales. Worse even than when she was shedding.

"T-Thank you," she told him, looking down the hallway to where Gwyn pointed as he mentioned the bathroom, where she assumed there would be a massive enough tug for someone like her. And her own room. It was very kind of him.

"And, uh, I'm a little hungry but honestly I'd really just like a warm bath. You have one of thossse, yesss?"

Gwyn's expression was pleasant, as he was being as hospitable as he could. The dragon forced a smile and anyone who knew him would know that he obviously had bad news. He looked at Samara again before looking down where he pointed. Good lord she was pretty big. Not bulky like the oldest sister Corsalyn, just really long. This home was not built with a lamia resident in mind.

"Alright, full disclosure I wasn't expecting to be living with someone of your build. So when I say 'just fit' I mean it's going to be a tight squeeze," he turned away nervously. "I do apologize for that. There's fresh linens in the little closet right next to the bathroom as well, so take your pick of those I suppose."

He glanced at the kitchen, the good news there was they were both very much carnivores. preparing a meal with that in mind would be a fairly simple task he could handle while she was in the bathroom. He looked at her again, "I'll fix up some food while you're at that. Did you want anything in particular?"

"Anything meat," Smara responded as she started down the hallway, tentatively peering into the closet he'd pointed out for her to take a pair of matching towels. She stared around awkwardly momentarily before slipping the main part of her body into the bathroom.

He was right; this would be a tight and careful fit for her. Samara sighed, not for the first time hating herself thoroughly. She went and turned on the water so it could heat up. It took her a second when she realized it shot out of a head at the top. This was no bath. Luckily, Samara understood quickly enough how the shower worked.

Carefully, she disrobed, set up the towels and put her main body in the shower and slipped the rest of herself in tight, neat coils inside the bathroom. The door had to remain ajar, but that was fine. Everything was fine.

The water was warm and pleasant on her skin; it was enough to relax the touch of the chill from outside right out of her. She wished she could have washed her entire tail like this, but there was no way.

Sadly, the steam didn't say in the cramped room with the door open. When Samara got out of the shower, she wet a washcloth with soap and warm water from the sink to meticulously scrub down her tail.

It was a while before she came out of the bathroom, clothed and refreshed. By the time she had, her hair was already dry, and her scales had taken on a new shine. Her skin didn't redden like the palest of people; being purple had its advantages.

"I apologize for the wait," she said with the hint of her serpent accent.

While Samara was working the shower, Gwyn went right to cooking. All the while simultaneously texting his landlord about making his space a bit more accommodating. He wasn't expecting to hear back from him until the next day. He wasn't sure how long Samara would be staying, but with this being something to consider doing. Especially considering he may have similar visitors in the near future.

He started cooking a spread of a little bit of the various meats he had. An impromptu mini-feast for his new house mate. He was just finishing up by the time he finished preparing the meal. "You're actually just in time," he smiled. "I wasn't sure what you'd like so I just made a spread."

"That'sssss very generouss of you," Samara said, wringing her hair with her hands a hint. She untangled the ends with her claws as she looked over the offered food.

She picked at a few of the things she didn't know and tried a little of everything because it seemed like the polite things to do. All the way, Samara watched Gwyn warily and with a hint of distrust.

What did he want from her? Certainly, this could not all be because her sister had married one of his family? Everyone always wanted someone.

Had one of her sisters put him up to this?

"It's the least I could do," he smiled and watched her sampling the food, and eyeing him like she was waiting to say this was a prank. Part of him was fighting back the urge to tell her the food was poisoned. In thinking it through, an angry cobra woman would be less than ideal. Not to mention he opted to do this out of a genuine sense of obligation to the new family.

He fixed himself his own plate and began eating. To him, his food was edible but never quite right, something he attributed to just wanting to be a perfectionist. "You don't have to eye me like that, I'm not some nefarious villain. If I was I would have made my move way earlier. But I have my honor to consider too. Unless the food's not to your liking. In which case I'll have to run to the store," his pleasant expression didn't change at all. But what he spoke was also the truth.

Samara watched as Gwyn at the food and tried picking her own morsels in the same fashion as he did. Maybe he was immune to anything he put in the food though, and the thought made her sick. She stared at her plate.

"When I wassss in the sssshower?" she asked when he told her he would have made his move earlier. "Or when we firrrst came in? When we were sssstill outside, in the cold? That would have been the sssmartest place for an attack."

She picked a little more at the food on her plate before trying a bite, chewing slowly and made a pleased sound. "I-It's good," she said as if this were a surprise. "What isss it?"

"There were too many people around outside, if we were in the woods or something then without a doubt you'd be very vulnerable. Again, yes but that also isn't ideal for me. In the shower or as you're coming out would be the best. It's narrower there you can't move as well. I can very easily ensnare you using my ichor, set you on fire, impale you, it's very versatile so there's a huge deal of things I could do," he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Truth be told, Gwyn wouldn't mind the abilities he gained through undeath if he had access to the fragments of memory he lost.

"That is an elk I hunted down in the forest earlier this week. Big one too. Also for future reference do you have a specific type of meat you like?" he took a small bite out of his food. "Oh! don't hesitate to ask for anything you'd want or need. This is your place too at least until you get yourself situated."

Samara couldn't help but laugh at how matter-of-fact their conversation was about her murder. Gwyn thought practically, and she could respect that. It was the same way she thought.

"You have ichor?" she asked once she'd settled down, interested and eating entirely now. She'd noticeably relaxed, ironically.

She blinked down at the plate. Elk? She'd never heard of such a thing, and she made a mental note to ask Gwyn more about it and his hunting abilities later. Samara hadn't been hunting in a long time.

Usually, Sam didn't go hunting with her other sisters. Her skills had her dealing with other necessities closer to home, but she was still a predator, as kind as she was, and hunting was always fun to a predator.

"Humans. Or, er, well, other snakes. Don't tell my ssssisssters that, if you pleassse."

She cleared her throat in the hopes it would help with her future hiss.
