In all honesty Rada had been more than a little surprised when she had received a Valentine from Fweiu. Rada had never received a Valentine before, and the one Fweiu had sent her had been...well, Rada was touched by it, honestly. Rada wasn't an artsy person but the poem had been really great, and it had even been translated into Russian, which Rada appreciated.
So Rada was happy to oblige when Fweiu had requested to spend more time with her. Though Rada had stopped and considered, was Fweiu attempting to actually start a relationship with her? Rada didn't hate that thought, but her situation was, well, less than ideal for dating. With her basically being her family's captive.
Or then Rada was just severely overthinking this, which was unusual from her.

Whatever the case, Rada was on her way to fight Fweiu. Yes, fight. And she was beyond excited. Fweiu was strong, and though Rada knew that she would never be able to beat the dragon sparring was great. Rada kind of wanted to test how she'd do against ice magic, and Fweiu had admitted she wanted to test her abilities against Rada's future vision. Rada was confident in that ability, so Fweiu was free to test it all she wanted.
They had agreed to meet at Rada's boxing gym, it had rings for fights whose participants had supernatural strength so they wouldn't break just like that. And they had few separate sparring rooms. The coach would let them use either, Rada was sure. That woman liked her guts.

Rada was early, for once, and stayed waiting outside in case Fweiu wasn't sure which building it was. On this street the buildings looked the same, and for the gym there wasn't a sign outside.

Fweiu didn't know if she was allowed to have a relationship.

Well, that wasn't true. She was the chief of the entire Akt'Anir. She could just decide to have a girlfriend. But what would that mean for them? The political and interpersonal implications kept her up at nights, which was why she had been treating romance like Eehol did. Strictly casual sex until her mate would be selected.

Fweiu was getting sick of it. She wanted more. She deserved more, too, damn it - she was in charge! So she sent Rada a love letter, and now here she was. Walking around the corner of the building, loose fitting clothes, ready to fight Rada for the first time.

The chief was nervous, with a fluttery feeling in her stomach. She would try not to let that show. "Rada! Hello! Are you ready?"

Rada didn't have to wait for long, and when she saw Fweiu a smile rose to her face. Rada turned towards Fweiu as she made her way to her, and let out a small laugh when Fweiu asked if she was ready.
"I've been ready ever since that bar fight. I can't wait to get in the ring. Oh, and hey."
Rada stepped close and pressed a kiss on Fweiu's lips, setting one of her hands on Fweiu's shoulder.
"The poem you sent was great. It got me fired up, in many ways. So let me return the favour sometime."
Rada grinned a bit, and stepped away after sliding her hand from Fweiu's shoulder to her hip. When Rada said return the favour she also meant it in different ways. She kinda wanted to cook for Fweiu, wonder what was her favourite food?

"Then let's not waste any more time and get going, it's in here."
Rada said with an energetic tone, and pointed at the gym door behind her back. She spun around and threw the door open, holding it open so Fweiu could go before her and get an eyeful of the gym. It was a large hall with tall ceiling, simplistic and clearly meant for one thing and one thing only: boxing. There were men and women of all kinds of species pounding reinforced punching bags with their fists, both gloved and bare. The scent of sweat and deodorant was evident, but the worst of it was taken care of by the very good air conditioning. There were three boxing rings, each different size, at the far end of the gym. The smallest ring was in use, two human sized people were using it to spar. Few doors on the wall to the right read "Changing rooms" and "Staff only".

As soon as Fweiu stepped in Rada let the door close and waved at few people near them that hollered their greetings at her.
"Who's the new girl, Volkov? She looks tough."
One of them asked, and Rada grinned and put her arm around Fweiu's shoulder. Or at least she tried, they had quite the height difference.
"Hands off, she's here to spar with me. If you insist on getting your ass kicked I'll do it later. Do you need to change? I'm good to go, changed before you came."
Rada asked the last part from Fweiu, and turned to look at her.

Fweiu suspected the place had been close by. Smells of battle and exertion permeated the air before they even entered the building. Walking through the doors just made it more intoxicating.

Fweiu was about to introduce herself to that person, but Rada was already getting territorial with her. What a delight! She laughed, wrapping her arm around Rada's shoulders, while the smaller woman would struggle to do the same.

"I just have a layer to shed," Fweiu told Rada. "No need for a changing room."

After they reached their place, Fweiu would shed those clothes. This revealed a pair of shorts, and a tank top which showed some of her abdomen. She left everything else on a nearby bench.

She would start looking scaly now. Bigger.

"What rules should we abide by when we fight here?"

The people Rada had just given lip to laughed it off and left her and Fweiu in peace for now. That kind of banter was normal among them, and naturally Fweiu could spar anyone she wanted after she and Rada were done with their session.

"Cool. In that case this way, please."
Rada said with a small grin and led the two of them to the medium sized ring. There was an option to use an enchantment within the ring, that prevented the use of any abilities. But they didn't need that, Rada wanted Fweiu to be able to partial shift and Fweiu probably wanted Rada to be able to see to the future.
Rada shed the hoodie she had been wearing as well, and now she was also wearing shorts and a yellow, sturdy sports bra. Rada liked it when she had as much mobility as possible, and the sports bra enabled that.

Oh man, Rada really liked that partial shift trick Fweiu did. She looked up at Fweiu with a smile, starting to really look forward to this. Rada did some stretches while Fweiu asked her question about the rules.
"Well, first of all just don't turn full-on dragon and wreck this place. Even if I really want to see it."
No lie, Rada really wanted to see Fweiu's dragon form.
"Suppose just...hold back enough so I don't get beaten in a fraction of a second. Sparring is about learning, right?"
Rada wasn't stupid, she knew Fweiu could easily beat her. But that didn't mean she wasn't going to do her best to try and get some good hits in. Rada had pride, she just channeled it in different ways. It was satisfying to let people believe she was just a stupid muscle head and then beat them in mind games.
"And you wanted me to use my ability, the one that tells me what you're going to do."

Fweiu smiled. It was an odd, wild smile. "You're right. It is about learning. And I want to learn from you. I don't intend on shifting much more, and I don't intend on using any magic. I want to pit your future sight directly against my experience."

This might be heavily skewed in Rada's favor, and Fweiu relished that. Improvement came from being challenged, and Fweiu had never faced a challenge like what Rada's power represented. But also, if she was being honest, she kind of wanted Rada to beat her up.

She hopped into the ring. "We'll see how that goes for a couple rounds." She hopped around a bit, stretched, got her blood flowing, then fell back into a fighting stance. Same odd smile.

"Whenever you're ready."

No magic? Well that was a bit of a shame. But Rada shook it off and nodded, she could just ask to spar some another time and Fweiu could use her magic then. And if Fweiu wanted to put Rada's future vision to a test Rada was all for it.
But she also wanted to try and see if she could bring Fweiu down, and that thought brought a small predatory smile to Rada's face.

Rada hopped into the ring along with Fweiu, doing some last stretches to her arms and shaking her shoulders. Rada took her own stance, similar to a boxing stance but more open, one where Rada could move into any direction with sharp, quick movements without losing impact power upon a hit. Her eyes and smile were still predatory, as the wolf in her wanted to make battle.
"Like I said, I was ready since the bar fight."
With that Rada surged forward, not yet with her highest speed but close to it. While raising the sensitivity of her future vision slightly Rada got close to Fweiu and threw a couple of feint punches towards her face and one knee kick at her side. Rada wanted to see how Fweiu would react to this kind of attack, would she take distance or face it head-on.

Fweiu could see from Rada's footwork that the punches were a feint. Once Rada committed to the kick, she saw her chance. She moved forward, taking the kick to her side, and aiming an elbow strike directly at Rada's chest. Right at the center of mass. The kick hurt, but hopefully, so would the elbow. It would be hard to avoid, especially with Rada on one foot like that.

If she could get Rada off balance, she would follow it up with even more aggression, depending on how Rada responded: another elbow, or a knee, or if Rada was backing off perhaps a punch as a parting shot, using her extra reach to her advantage.

Fweiu had an advantage that most people likely didn't, when they fought Rada. She knew what Rada could do, and she had spent a lot of time thinking about it before they fought. So, she came in with a strategy. She would wait until Rada did something she could exploit, then push her advantage as much as she could without opening herself up. She knew Rada would exploit any opening she offered.

Rada could guess Fweiu knew the punches were a feint, since Fweiu probably had a lot more experience in battle than Rada and in her future vision Rada had seen Fweiu not reacting to them. But that didn't stop her from trying, and when she committed to the kick Rada already knew Fweiu would take it and she knew how Fweiu would counterattack. And Rada had a plan, she always had a plan.

Instead of keeping herself supported on the one leg as soon as Rada's kick made contact she let herself fall down, performing a practiced fall that didn't hurt her anywhere by momentarily relaxing her muscles all over. This way Rada avoided Fweiu's elbow to her chest and hopefully took Fweiu by surprise for the split second Rada needed to perform her next move. And instead of backing away once on the ground Rada wrapped her legs around Fweiu's and rolled her body and legs sharply to the right, trying to make Fweiu in turn lose balance and fall down. For this Rada used all her strength, as she was sure Fweiu had sure and steady balance, and she positioned her legs around Fweiu's so they forced Fweiu's legs to bend by the knees.

If Fweiu did succumb to this attempt to sway her balance or even make her fall Rada would either be on her as soon as she showed signs of faltering, or take distance in the case of any other outcome.

Fweiu certainly didn't see that coming. She didn't fall over immediately, but she did fall over. Right on top of Rada. It wasn't unusual for people to try something like this on her, so she knew a few ways to work around it, and this was one of them.

Rada would see it coming, sure. But Fweiu was sure that being on top of Rada could give her the edge she needed in this fight. On top of that, Fweiu was an accomplished grappler, with several times more years of experience than Rada had years of life.

It might not be enough.
