Name: Fig Scarborough
Age: 132 (Looks 28)
Birthday: April 11
Gender: Male
Species: Plant Personification
Category: Staff
Class: High School some College
Subject/Work: Modern History, Ethics, Economics
Appearance Description: Despite his origins Fig resembles humanity fairly well, as he's quite humanoid in his appearance in looking like a twenty eight year old man. His skin colour is a very light brown akin to that of the bark of an Old Fig Tree, if one touches his skin they'll note that it's coarse like bark.
His eye colour is a dark purple with a greyish tone to it, while where the white might be is a tinge of light greyish green. His build is slim to athletic, and he usually sports long pants and a dress shirt at least when he's working. When he's off duty, Fig can be seen wearing things such as shorts, board shorts and normal T-shirts.
Personality Description: Fig is a reasonable guy, polite and well informed of things he's heard or read. Though he still gets nightmares about his past, but he also has good memories of then as well. He likes to learn new things and teach them to others, when teaching Fig likes to help students in their preferred way of learning. Because he knows not everyone learns the same, he likes to know that people are happy and can question his teachings anytime.
He loves a good debate as long as it doesn't get too heated, he doesn't mind passion in debates but not to the point of causing trouble. When not teaching, Fig likes to be surrounded by nature and people, bringing him back to the good old days of his Australian home. As such many of his classes are often outside, if he can get others to allow him to do so. He also speaks in Australian slang sometimes, and this can be frustrating to those that don't understand it.
On his off time Fig likes to do some writing or drawing, and often takes walks in natural areas in order to continue his art in peace. He's very hard to anger and has a very long fuse, as such he's a chill guy and goes with the flow of things that happen around him. He'll try and diffuse a situation through talking or levity if possible, otherwise he'll attempt to shut things down quickly before someone gets hurt.
Species Abilities: Fig is a strange mix of a soon to be doomed Ficus macrophylla otherwise known as a Moreton Bay fig Tree, a man in deep dark sorrow for many reasons who died at the base of his trunk. As such he has a general resemblance to humanity aside from the coarse feeling of his skin, which feels more akin to bark then skin. His skin is quite tough and can take a fair amount of damage, including blades, bullets, and expressions of force and so on.
At one with Nature
Being who he is, Fig is capable of manipulating plants, trees, wood etc allowing him to spontaneously activating growth of them from the ground/soil. Using them it what way he see fits, such as attacks, defences and so on. He can manipulate all aspects of plants/trees as well, and whatever other aspects they may also have aligned to them. He can also commune with plants and trees, and also avian and insect species. The manipulation of wood and sap/amber is also an apart of this tree/plant manipulation, alongside leaves, fruit and flowers.
He's also capable of Chlorokinetic Scrying which allows him to see, hear etc through plants, he is able to do the same with animals however this is more limited to the ones that live with him (These include Fig Wasps, Chalcid wasps, Australasian figbird, Pied Currawong). Fig can also control the animals that live with him or sometimes in him as the case maybe, but he prefers to talk to them and ask them for help. He can make plants/trees grow in mere moments, though most often the flora has to be there in some sense even just a leaf or cutting is enough.
He can bring plants and trees to full growth, the size this takes depends on the flora he's working with. He can only use this power when he's concentrating, has enough energy and or is sustained enough, meaning he can't use this ability when having head, food or sun/water issues. And if there's no plant matter around, then he's unable to do anything with this ability.
Photosynthesis
Although Fig can eat normal food, by absorbing it inside his person or giving it to one of the various animals. He usually gains sustenance from the light of the sun or via water, he's been known to drink a lot of it or just sit at the bottom of the pool. He doesn't need to actually breath and can be underwater for as long as he chooses too, though he prefers natural water and not chlorinated stuff. Otherwise he absorbs light from the sun and produces oxygen out of the leaves that make up his hair, though it can't easily be seen as leaves but they are.
Powers:
Is it profanity or is it a curse
Despite Fig's nice and caring personality, his being as it is now came about in an almost cursed way. As such he has the ability to place/remove curses, become stronger via curses, manipulate curses to varying effects and even use curses like an energy source to create energy based attacks. Though he rarely uses this ability unless he needs to or gets emotionally invested in something or somewhere.
Fig can create a range of curses, from simple/harmless bad luck to life long bad luck, cause sickness from minor to major (though not always infectious), pin point specific bodily targets to cause issue, mess with ones mental faculties, mess with ones equilibrium, bowels, social skills, senses. He can even enact simple petty ones, like bad wifi, animals whizz on you, teeth fall out and so on, a fun one he likes to use on sexist jerks is one that makes deodorant flip it's smell so it's the complete opposite to what it was originally
Fig can get stronger via curses, this allows his strength and speed to increase and his durability and endurance if need be as well. He can get stronger a variety of ways, such as the amount of cursed people around his local area, the strength of curse recently placed, cursing himself with a minor curse or absorbing the energy from a cursed person or being. This all can add up to Fig becoming up to seven times stronger, faster, better and so on.
Fig can use the energy of curses, either his own simple curse of existing or his tainted blood. Or even absorb someone else's curse whether he placed it on them or not, and then convert that to an energy form usually dark purple in colour with a misty after tone. Then use said energy as blasts, balls or bursts of energy he can direct and control if need be. When hit with this energy, one can feel a few affects such as spine tingling cold, loneliness, depression, paranoia and a serious case of fear which can sometimes cause paralysis but only in some cases.
Gestalt Me Taint
Fig is the unintentional fusion of the Scarborough Fig Tree in Australia Fair, and a man whose life came to an end at the base of Fig when he was a full tree. As such he is technically Gestalt, though the mind of the man had ceased and thus left Fig with control of the form the man's soul fused to Fig's in a sense. Much of what Fig knows about humans comes from what little muscle memory the man had left, along with his own data.
Another part of this strange fusion, is that because the man was officially dead when he and Fig joined beings. Fig's blood is actually full of a taint based substance, mixing the dead human blood with Fig's original sap. As such if Fig bleeds on a person, animal or object, than a taint will appear and they will start to rot. The speed of which they rot depends on size, physiology and whether the affected area can be expunged or not.
Biography: Fig was for all intents and purposes just a tree, that was planted over a 130 years ago in the growing CBD called Southport in the city of the Gold Coast. Originally he was a part of a bunch of fruit barring trees that were meant to light up the area, as well as offer food for those passing by or the community in general. Time passed and the trees were a nice sight for the area, however a major cyclone came to Southport. Which took out houses, fences and most of the remaining Fig trees that were planted, however Fig himself had held on to his roots and survived the carnage.
This impressed the local people and Fig became a treasured tree for the community to enjoy and care for. Decades passed and Fig watched the city grow around him, watching and listening to the people go about their business and the children play around or on him. Generations passed and Fig weathered any and all environmental issues that had taken done countless other places, trees and so on. In his hundred years of life on the coast and becoming a major landmark for Southport, Fig was granted heritage status. This meant that no one was allowed to harm him or cut him down, no matter how much they wanted the land.
When a business group came and bought the land around Fig, they made a shopping mall with the express indication that Fig was not to be harmed. And the as such the mall built around the tree, even creating a place around the tree called Fig Tree Court. This was a well-established eating area for what was originally called Scarborough Fair, times passed and it later became Australia Fair. Meanwhile Fig himself liked watching the people as they went about their purchases and resting under his shade or eating with families nearby. The birds loved it and would often take what scraps they could, while Fig himself would just continue to observe and take in information.
As the owners of Australia Fair became greedier, they wanted to expand but Fig's placement and protection meant that they couldn't expand into that area. They tried to apply for getting the tree removed or cut down, but they were met with heavy backlash. Not just from the local people who grew up seeing the tree there, but from political and historical types who explained that Fig had been there longer than Australia Fair had and that it was protected under heritage protection. Sadly however those at Australia Fair ownership still wanted their expansion and in the middle of the night, when no one was around their started plotting the trees downfall. An office worker who was one of the higher up's assistants had heard the news, scuppering off to the trees location hoping to stop the destruction on a tree he grew up playing on and around.
The man's name was Mason Fields, he was 28 year old man with not much in the line of family as most had died or moved away. But he loved his city and the tree was a big part of his childhood, he'd grabbed a bunch of the chairs and tried making a barricade to stop the workers from starting. But it was no good and as the higher ups came along, they tried to talk him down from his craziness saying it was just a tree. But he wasn't having it and one of the higher ups' guards took out a gun, shooting Mason between the eyes and let him fall at the base of Fig's trunk. In those moments, Fig connected with the bleeding out man and a bright light that was cold and almost dark in nature. This explosion of light filled the whole area and once over the Fig Tree had vanished and the higher ups almost smiled, till they noticed a man like being standing in its place.
The man held much of Mason's old form, however his skin was the colour of the fig tree's bark and his hair was a fine leaf like appearance. Though they wanted the tree gone, the higher ups and the workers around them, could tell that this might not be the best result. Mason had been killed with fear and hatred in his heart, and looked to have essentially merged with the Fig Tree that they were about to cut down. The workers had started to run off, as Fig started heading towards them with what could only be noted to be an angry look on his face. The bodyguard that had shot Mason minutes earlier attempted to fire again, this time it didn't seem to be doing much except annoy Fig. He stopped in the middle of the area once known as Fig Tree Court, placing his hand on the ground Fig mumbled a few inaudible words.
He then looked at the higher ups and smiled "This isn't how you go about business, I'll leave you alone for now. But remember, you brought this on yourself" expressed Fig as he started to make his way to the nearby exit. Smashing it open if it would let him out, and heading off into the world in his office worker outfit. Meanwhile the area known as Fig Tree Court, had become cursed and any shop that settled in the place got no business and was soon bankrupt. The only shop that didn't have the problem was one that was just on the boarder of the court, and he knew that they supported his being there and as such left the place be (Until they moved then the curse would react to them). So the place was left for dead till new people took over and attempted to construct new things on the site, and although nothing happened during construction. The shop that had opened first was subjected to the curse, though what happens yet is unknown as they've only recently reopened.
Fig on the other hand walked off into the world and enjoyed the new he had of everything. He took up arts for a while and just walked around cities and nature learning new things, eventually he was given a strange note that invited him to a place called Starlight Academy. Where he'd be given a chance to teach his expert knowledge to students, many of which were powered or outcast much like himself. So he packed what little belongings he had and headed towards the island, in hopes of a new and interesting life ahead of him.
Additional Information: Like most being especially trees, Fig is not a fan of fire. He's not afraid of it in a debilitating sense, but he's wary of it and knows he'll be immensely affected by it if he catches fire. Fig is also highly cautious of bleeding on anything or one, because of the toxic nature of his blood.
