Private Finished Feline for some Development

KC had been pretty busy, to ask her about it. She had finally gotten her tiny apartment just how she wanted it, and it was time to let Hadley come see it. Once he got off from work, of course. She'd spared only some expense: a mid-range bottle of bourbon for him and some extra nice sparkling water for her, a playlist of her favorite music, and new sheets on the bed. All in all, a good enough set up for what she hoped was a nice christening party of her new living space.

And then Neon had called, sending her into a bit of a mixed bag of emotions. On the one hand, she was irritated that he was bothering her just as she was putting on those finishing touches. On the other, by the tone of his voice he had some good news for her.

She was not nearly as dressed up as he was when she answered the door: wearing only yoga pants and a sports bra, with her hair pulled back into a messy, wild bun. Her mismatched eyes scanned him as she leaned on the door frame, sucking in her bottom lip to hide the worst of her grin.

"You look like you ripped that shirt off the floor of a bowling alley. Come on in, I guess."

"That too, I guess. Either way, you look like a nerd."

Once they were inside, KC fell forward over the arm of her couch, simultaneously bending over and seemingly unwittingly giving Neon a good view of her from the side while she listened to what he had to say. Her tail swayed back and forth, ears twitching a bit as she thought about the implications of what he had apparently figured out.

"How will that affect me? The tank is supposed to, ya know, keep my vitals stable while it works on the nanites. Keep them from liquifying me in the process. If I turn to jelly, that'll be on you."

"If we're waiting on the tank, then I don't even need you. I know the programming language myself and the tank can be hooked into almost any computer," KC said in a very dry, matter-of-fact way as she stretched and then bunched up on the couch, her tail waving lazily in the air.

"Buuuuuuut, I also won't have that kind of money for a really long time, with the way things are going. The day you ambushed me on the station, I was going to sneak into one of the shops and set myself up to at least get one of my upgrades overnight while the store was empty. So, ya know, waiting isn't really ideal for me."

"I don't know what the fuck that means," KC said flatly, sighing as she sat up and rubbed her temple. "You did this last time, you know? I was having a crisis and you decided you wanted to tell me about how you have a kid-"

She huffed and stood up, sauntering into the kitchen that was attached to her living room so that she could get herself a cup of water. Along the way she muttered under her breath, "It's not worth it."

"Either way," she continued after she'd finished a long sip of water, "I'd prefer it to be quick, yeah. Rip the band-aid off and not die horribly in the process. But if you're so worried about it affecting you, you're welcome to dip now and I can find someone else. I don't need anybody pussing out on me, especially when it's my fine ass on the line."

KC practically deflated when he left. She took the opportunity of being alone to throw her clothes off and get a shower, both to unwind before whatever Neon had planned and to get clean in case he needed to cut her open or anything. She didn't know what exactly he was going to do, but she wanted to be ready for anything.

She was still blow drying her hair when he arrived; using a gentle setting kept her hair from frying. She had to keep her good looks up for Hadley, lest he get bored with her. KC opened the door unceremoniously, still wrapped in a towel as she let Neon back inside. She didn't even seem to notice her own state as she made her way back through the house to get some of the food that she had. "That was quicker than I thought it would be. I almost wondered if you'd had second thoughts and decided to skip on me. You want anything to eat? I've got crab cakes - baked, not fried. And a couple different kinds of cheese. Sorry but limited diet, ya know? Can't have anything a cat can't."
