Such modesty. But that was one thing Cazimir liked about Bastian, like himself the man didn't brag.
Cazimir felt strangely bothered that Bastian dismissed helping Cazimir as just doing his job. There was no logic in that, it was true that Bastian had merely done his job by helping Cazimir, there was no reason to feel bothered.
"Nevertheless you have my gratitude. The hospital will most probably receive a gift basket from the VFI, they appreciate people who take care of their employees."
That was a small lie, the gift basket was going to be from Cazimir's mother, as she sent them through the corporation every time Cazimir or one of his henchmen ended up in the hospital. Which wasn't that often, thankfully.

Naturally Bastian asked. Cazimir had waited for it, had tried to prepare himself. The records would simply be marked with "Vampire feeding accident". But Bastian deserved a better explanation. Hell, he deserved the truth. But Cazimir couldn't give it to him.
"An acquaintance of mine, a vampire, was in need of blood. She hadn't fed in over a month, she lost control of herself. I couldn't stop her in time, unfortunately."
Cazimir was as convincing as a person could be, and he looked Bastian in the eyes. Now, why had he called the vampire a she? Cazimir wondered that himself. But he knew the answer.
Bastian knew Cazimir preferred men. If the vampire was a woman...Bastian wouldn't have anything to worry about. But for Bastian to worry about things like that he first needed to have a reason for that. And he probably didn't.

A gift basket. Huh. Bastian wasn't aware that companies could care this much about their employees, but he supposed that was what happened when you were an important asset. Or if your job didn't involve dying. After all, a gift basket is cheaper than finding a new professional. "Sweet."

It'd probably go to Jinwoo. Not him. He wasn't even supposed to be working inside the trauma ward. But that doesn't matter. As long as Cazimir was alive, he was alright with it.

"You gotta be more careful, then," Bastian said, as a knee-jerk response to Cazimir's explanation. Vampire feeding accident. Wasn't there synthetic blood for sale in almost every food store in this city? They had a flourishing blood bank system that would put most cities to shame, and still the vampires don't feed? This explanation made Cazimir a little suspicious, but he accepted it nonetheless, not wanting to question him at this time. "Tell her that blood banks exist. She doesn't have to feed off living people."

"I would wage it'll be more salty. VFI gift baskets often consist of cheeses. And office supplies. It's more practical, you see."
Was it kind of a bad joke? Yes it was. But Cazimir was trying his best, even if it was, what was the word younger generation uses? Cringy.

"That was my intention."
Cazimir assured, when Bastian told him to be more careful. Bastian didn't seem too suspicious, and if he was he wasn't showing it. Either way Cazimir was relieved he didn't need to explain anything further, his story might differ from the one his colleagues told.
"I will inform her the next time I see her, don't worry."
Cazimir said with a small chuckle, that turned into a dry cough. Cazimir covered his mouth as he coughed and drank bit more water when he finished coughing. Ironically he felt like smoking cigar right now.
"Is it alright for you to be here? Don't you have classes? I'd hate to keep you from them?"
