It was the last drop of salt that made Riley's cup run over. It drained from her eyes, streaming onto her cheeks. She was getting another detention. This was going to prevent her from spending an afternoon with the few friends she'd managed to collect so far. Even worse, it wasn't even for a good reason as far as Riley was concerned - just a bunch of demerits for uniform violations and speaking out of turn in class.

Uniforms were stupid. Mrs. Nguyen was a fascist. Riley would be the first to tell you. All she could do was complain or cry, though, and she'd found a great place to go hide and do the latter. It was behind one of the administrative buildings, away from the entrances and exits and pathways people typically used. In a pinch, she could come here and let it out without anyone bothering her.

Riley hated being here. She hated the schedule. She hated having to wear this dumb bracelet that took away her powers. She hated people being afraid of her or bossing her around all the time. Worst of all, she hated giving in to their demands as much as she did. She felt like a weak coward. If her parents were here, they'd be able to give her the strength to fight back, she was sure. She missed them so much, every day - every time someone bossed her around she told herself that only her parents were supposed to do that, and all these other people were trying to replace them, and she couldn't let them.

She let the anger and despair drip down her cheeks in quiet sobs. She was curled up in a ball against the back wall. Riley just wanted to be home again.

Asger was just getting back from picking up lunch. He had with him a turkey sandwich all perfectly wrapped up and with it a bag of chips.

As he was walking by one of the administrative buildings Asger had sensed something faint which caused him to stop. When Asger sensed things it were gods or something very similar and usually when they were this faint it means that there was a demigod nearby or something.

It was worth to investigate where it wasn't coming from. This is when Asger had to play a bit of hot or cold until he was near the source. From any other person viewpoint it just looks like some guy walking around with his eyes closed but in reality Asger was pretty focused.
A few minutes had passed before he was sure what he was sensing was in front of him therefore he stopped to open his eyes.

What he saw was just a child curled up on the wall of the building.

This was a odd place to find a kid then again considering how this is somewhat a blind spot for people it could make for a perfect hiding place.
Upon closer inspection he noticed that she was indeed crying rather than actually hiding for hide and seek. So his immediate response was to check on her.

“Are you okay?” he asked as he knelt down in front of her. He didn't know why she was crying but he did know she shouldn't be here crying behind a building alone. As far as he could see, she didn't seem to be physically hurt.

Riley didn't want to be seen like this. It was a display of weakness, and it happened far too often. She didn't want to talk about her feelings with some counselor, she didn't want to open up, she didn't want people trying to change her anymore.

"I'm not okay," she said through sniffles, trying to be defiant and mad. "I never wanted to be here. I want to see my mom and dad again, and they want me home too." When she looked up at him, she fought against the sadness pulling at her face.

He didn't look like such a bad guy though. Riley could almost describe him as 'pretty,' maybe even 'dreamy,' like the prince charmings in the princess movies her parents didn't want poisoning her mind because monarchies were inherently evil. She found a way to see them anyway, in secret.

Asger took out his handkerchief and offered it to the girl. “You can use this if you want to.” with that done he listened to what would be the problem that was currently causing her to cry. So from what he got from that was she missed her parents and wanted to go home. There was also her never wanting to be here which he assumed she meant the school. “I could see if your parents would want to come pick you up if you want to leave for the day.” Yeah he still didn't fully connect the dots just yet but at least it was still a nice offer?

Now another question he had was how long she has been back here and if she was skipping any classes. Asger was going to ask but decided to wait a bit later once she seemed to calmed down.

He was actually concerned now and felt like leaving or taking her somewhere else wasn't a good idea at the moment. The best choice at the moment was to stay and try to comfort her as best he could. “Ah right, I am Sir Asger Kleonidas. Do you mind telling me your name?”

Riley looked at Asger like he had just told a cruel joke. Call up her parents and ask if she could go home for the day. If only that was possible. She didn't answer him, she just hid her face in his offered handkerchief.

"I'm Riley Keegan." She used her full name because there were other Rileys running around. "My parents can't come get me 'cause they're in jail. And the school says they can't raise me anymore." She said all of this through the handkerchief covering her face, punctuated by a couple of sobs. Part of the handkerchief got caught between her wrist and her power-nullifying bracelet.

“ It's nice to meet you Riley.” And just like that things started to make some sense. Asger heard a bit about Riley from a few of the scouts.

Right her parents were in Jail. “Oh...I'm sorry that you can’t see your parents.” Asger knew what that feeling was like. “I uh lost my parents before too.” Reaching out Asger gave Riley a pat on the back. “Though that doesn't mean you still can't go see them. I’m sure they are allowed visits if you can get someone to take you.”

Asger took note of the bracelet. It seemed a bit silly she had that though knowing a bit on what had happened he could see why they had put one on her. He also noticed there seemed to be some temperament on it. “I don't really think the bracelet was needed….how long did they say you had to wear it for? If you don't mind telling me.”

He moved a bit closer to Riley and decided to just sit beside her. “Oh! Are you hungry? I have a sandwich and some chips if you want them unless you already ate lunch before I got here.”
Asger took the sub sandwich and the chips out and offered them to Riley.

She could see her parents again!? Riley started to light up. It wasn't as good as being able to go live at home with them again, but she would happily take it. It was the best news she'd gotten in over a year. Her crying stopped.

And Asger thought the fact she had to wear the bracelet was stupid. Riley thought it was stupid too - and finally someone was agreeing with her. Even Dalia didn't agree with her about her bracelet. "I dunno how long they want me to wear it," she told him. "They said they were gonna make me go to a counselor in a bleeding month, then he'd decide. But they hate me, so that could just mean I'm stuck with it forever."

Even though she'd already had her lunch period, she wasn't going to turn down chips. But when she looked in the bag, she learned that Asger actually just had crisps. Nobody on this island seemed to know what proper chips were. Still, crisps were good. "I'd like just the crisps. If that's ok?"

"Thanks, Mr. Asger!"

She was really starting to like him. And now that her eyes were less watery and blurry, she could tell that he really did look like a Disney Prince type of person. She dried her eyes a bit more on the sleeve of her uniform.

She had stopped crying which was a good sign.

“A counselor?” Well he didn't really know any of the school counselors though he was sure they didn't hate her. “Don't think like that. The counselor won't hate you after all you seem like a really nice kid.” Well so far Riley was nice. Asger isn't aware of how she acts in class or around others so he is just basing things off of what he sees now.
“If you can show them that then they have no choice but to take it off.” That he was certain about.

“Ah you call these crisps?” He handed them over to Riley and smiled. “Where are you from? I've been here for eight years and everyone I know calls them chips.” Chips and crisps, Asger wasn't aware of the differences of these things. He just knew people he met called them chips.

Oh there was still the matter of what he sensed. She wasn't human that he was sure of. “Riley are you a demigod?”

Riley frowned a little at the suggestion that she would lose the bracelet if she proved she could behave. She hated that advice. She didn't want to be easy for them to control. That felt the same as giving up or being a coward or something, and she didn't want any of that. But she was tired of arguing about it.

If she was honest, a part of almost her liked the bracelet. If they decided she didn't need it anymore, that meant they weren't afraid of her anymore.

"I'm from... I mean I've lived in most parts of the UK. But everyone you know is wrong," Riley said this about the crisps with absolute certainty. "You get proper chips when you slice up a potato and fry the slices. Like in fish and chips. these are crisps." She took one of the crisps out of the bag.

Was she a Demigod? Riley was almost offended. "Actually, I'm a reincarnated god of destruction. A demigod would be if one of my parents was a god and so I was half-god. I'm really just a god." She munched a chip. "How could you tell I was like that?"

Asger nodded. The UK, a place he has surprisingly not got to visit yet. “Oh what's it like there? I've seen a few pictures and read about it in books but I never got a chance to visit.”

“Oh so you are a full fledge god? I can't recall if I met any children that are gods. “ Asger tapped his chin as he tried to think of any. None really came to mind at the time but he was sure he met at least one or two. “But a reincarnated God of Destruction…” Asger glanced down at Riley. That would explain why they probably thought the bracelet was a good idea. Dealing with Gods were already a complex thing let alone an angry kid that is a God of Destruction who was also kidnapped. “You must have a lot of power then.”

Asger took out his sandwich and began to unwrap it. “I can sense Gods.” he stated right before he bit into the sandwich. He actually swallowed the food because talking with food in your mouth is bad manners. “It's something I picked up after being around so many gods before. I can tell if someone is godlike or something similar and I can tell if they are a demigod or a actually God.”

Though apparently Riley was a actually god rather than a demigod. “My apologies, I made a mistake and assumed you were a demigod. Though that could be contributed to the fact the bracelet is blocking you powers.”
