As the band finished Ariel looked up from her set to see the crowd of bar goers cheering wildly. She smiled as a chant of encore started up, and after receiving a confirming nod from her band members she tapped them in on another song. It felt good to play like this, to not be afraid. She was lost in the rhythm as she put her all into the last song of the evening. Even as the song ended she continued to play them out on a drum solo, much to the cheers of the crowd.
Several minutes later and Ariel was standing by the main bar while her bandmates talked with the bar manager about their payment for the evening. She wasn't really concerned with it so instead of paying any attention to it she was sipping on a cranberry juice.
A few people had come up to her, told her she was awesome and left. The compliments were nice, and it was a good experience to be out in public like this. She felt alright. She was safe, confident and actually having a good time. The only thing that could have made it better was if she had had her sister here to see it. Unfortunately, Brigid had had to work late and wasn't able to make it.
Ariel sighed as she raised her hand to the bartender and ordered another cranberry juice.
"Hey there chicky. Yer pretty savage on the drums."
The voice of Lindsey Masterson pierced the background chatter of the bar. Ariel turned around to see him standing behind her. He was much taller and was staring rather intently at her. She offered him a quick smile and muttered her thanks before turning around to face the bar again
Lindsey didn't seem to pay her any mind as he moved on to talk to her bandmates. She watched him for a moment while they talked and even shared a laugh. every now and again he would cast her a small glance, and usually, this would be followed by a laugh or a comedic grin. Was he making fun of her? She couldn't properly hear what they were saying, but the way he looked at her made her certain he was talking about her.
"Excuse me... What are you guys talking about?" She asked as she pushed her way into the conversation. Lindsey offered her a smile and nodded. "Oh Not much. I was just offering to buy these guys a drink. I'd offer you one, but I doubt you'd be interested."
For a moment Ariel was shocked, but she quickly found her voice. "Why would you say that? I drink..." She was angered by the insinuation that she wasn't interested. No one asked her, and her first thought was that he had assumed this based on her appearance. Yes, she was sheepish, but she was a drummer in a metal band. She was hardcore. She was metal.
Lindsey just grinned, looking amused by her questioning tone. "Oh you just don't look the type. I mean, I doubt you could handle a real drink. So it's ok. Go back and enjoy your cranberry juice." His tone was mocking and his gaze playful. He was playing her now, he knew she would take offense to this, and he knew she would try to prove him wrong. She was too easy he thought with a wicked grin.
As Lindsey expected Ariel rose to his bait. The pan faun puffed her cheeks out angrily and crossed her arms. "I'll have you know I can drink anything you can and then some." She said in a huffy tone.
Lindsey continued to grin as he gave a dismissive shrug. "Alright there lamb chop. Take it easy. I'll get
ya a drink then." Lindsey said in a mockingly frightened tone. He turned to the bartender and signaled the bartender. "Yo.. Can I get 151 fer the half a rack of lamb over here?" He asked with a chuckle at his own joke.
Ariel Huffed again as Lindsey held the drink out to her. Angrily she snatched it out of his hands and took a sip from it. Instantly she regretted her decision, and her face reflected her distaste. She coughed and choked on the foul tasting liquid, while Lindsey laughed at her. His voice seemed to echo in her mind as she tried to force down the rest of the drink.
It didn't take long for the liquor to catch up with Aries as the remainder of the night seemed to blur together. She woke up the next morning in her bed. She was still dressed and it didn't appear that anything funny had happened. Granted her clothes were pretty ruffled, but that could have been from sleeping in them. Her head was sore as well, no doubt a hangover from the drinking she had done. On that note, she couldnt remember how much she had actually had.
She sighed as she rolled out of bed and noticed something on her bedside table. A business card with the name "Jason Todd" on it followed by a phone number. Ariel sighed as she took the card in her hand and flipped it over. Handwritten on the back was a note.
"Lamb Chop. Yer pretty cool. Let's hang out again. Jason"
Ariel couldn't help but smile as she read the card. A boy had liked her enough to want to keep seeing her. This was perfect. She would call him back later.
