He glanced up at the tree briefly when Aluin asked what he was doing up there. His face got just a little pink but he still managed to answer.

“I was just putting up a birdhouse and writing a letter is all. I find it easier to think when I’m up in a tree.”

“What about you? Are you just out for a walk or why might you be around here all alone right now?” Rem didn’t really peg him For the type to wander around but maybe he really had just changed a lot in the little amount of time since they’d seen each other.

Hiatus
It seemed like Remiel had been doing something embarrassing, or at least Aluin thought so when he saw how the other boy blushed. Aluin rarely blushed, it was scary, but he knew it was usually a sign that someone was embarrassed or flustered.
Aluin looked up again and indeed saw the birdhouse.
"T-that is...nice..."
He stated with the smallest smile, since putting up houses for birds seemed like a nice thing to do. Aluin had never even thought that was something someone could do. He didn't ask about the letter though, he was too scared and it seemed personal.

Aluin managed not to flinch when Remiel asked him a question, and Aluin tilted his head to the side a bit while he pondered what a good answer would be. As not scary answer as possible.
"I-I...feel l-less...scared now, s-so I...w-wanted to s-see...h-how brave I c-could be..."
Aluin answered and shrugged ever so slightly, hands in pockets.
"I'm a-always...s-scared, so b-being brave is h-hard..."

Remiel was pretty content with how Aluin didn’t question him further. He didn’t really want to say anything about his cruddy day, especially to someone like Aluin.

He gave a calm smile when Aluin explained that he was less scared now. He sort of wanted to know what had caused this change, but he figured the guy would only tell him if he really wanted to talk about it.

“Oh okay, so this was a test of sorts, for yourself. That’s very cool of you Aluin. You know, as far as I’m concerned, you’re a very brave person. One of the bravest I’ve seen.”

Aluin found it a bit strange that Remiel wasn't asking about why he was so different all of a sudden. Sushi had asked right away, after all. But Aluin wasn't complaining, he was very scared to think about what he had gone through, much less talk about it. So Aluin appreciated that Remiel didn't ask.

The sudden praise took Aluin by surprise, and although it was pretty scary it also made Aluin feel pretty...embarrassed. Yes, he was pretty sure that was what this feeling was. Aluin sometimes felt embarrassed when papa called him a lot of different pet names and such, so he recognized the emotion. A subtle, barely discernible blush rose to Aluin's cheeks and he squeezed Mr. Whale in his pocket.

"I-I'm not...that b-brave. Y-you're...much b-braver. Y-you climbed to a t-tree, a-and...helped a st-stranger. I c-could...never d-do that..."
Aluin said timidly, scuffing his shoe against the grass.

Remiel thought about that for a moment. "You know, bravery doesn't mean just doing things that a lot of people wouldn't be able to. Climbing a tree isn't hard for me because I can fly and I won't get hurt if I fall off. There's nothing to worry about so I wouldn't really call that bravery."

He seemed to think some more, remembering lessons Sera had taught him ages ago. "A long time ago I used to be afraid of all sorts of things and a friend told me that bravery works different for everyone. It might be brave for one person to climb a tree and it might not be for others. The difference in the matter is fear. You are doing something brave so long as you are doing something that spits in the face of your fears."

The angel smiled. "That means that it's very brave of you to be out here exploring when it worries you so much. If you keep this up, I'm sure that one day you will manage to talk to strangers or even climb trees. Though I do not recommend climbing trees unless you have circumstances that make it safe for you."

The words Remiel said were...not untrue, not quite, but Aluin found them to be quite unbelievable. Aluin didn't take them as the truth, he now knew that having a different opinion from someone else's wasn't a bad thing, even if it was scary. And although there was truth to Remiel's words Aluin couldn't quite believe them. Because by Remiel's logic everything Aluin ever did was brave, because Aluin was simply afraid of everything.
But Aluin didn't talk back or against Remiel's words, that would've been too scary. So he simply nodded slightly.

"C-climb a...t-tree...?"
Aluin whispered in a horrified voice, and then looked at the tree Remiel had been in. It wasn't a particularly tall tree, but just thinking about climbing it was too scary. Aluin shook his head this time.
"I-I d-don't need to c-climb a t-tree, i-it's too scary. I-I've talked to s-some st-strangers, but...t-they spoke to m-me f-first..."

Rem quirked his head. "Don't worry about the tree, I shouldn't have said anything about that. Climbing a tree can be dangerous and there usually isn't a need for it." He sort of regretted using that as his analogy.

"That's great that you've been talking to people though." Rem would briefly point a hand toward the tree and a pair of wings would go retrieve his backpack for him. Just a precaution to make sure he had it in case he left later and forgot about it.

"Talking to people is not always easy. But the good news is that the more you do it, the easier it gets. I know it may not seem easier, but in the future you'll be able to look back and see how much you've improved. I'm certain of it. So long as you keep being brave like this."

Remiel took back his words, and Aluin...felt kind of bad for a moment. Remiel was trying to give him advice and cheer him up but Aluin let his fear interfere with that.
"...There i-is...no n-need for m-me to...t-test myself e-either, or...w-walk around, but...I s-still do it, so..."
Aluin said quietly and gave a small shrug, pretty much also taking back his earlier words.
"B-besides...I could m-make a h-house for b-birds too, a-and...then I h-have to climb a t-tree..."
Aluin suggested hesitantly, although just saying that he would climb a tree was horrifying.

Aluin jumped a bit when suddenly a pair of wings brought Remiel's bag to him, he was almost too distracted by that and nearly missed Remiel's next words.
"...I-I'll just t-try to...f-focus on the n-now, f-for now. B-being afraid a-all the t-time is...s-something I c-can't c-change. J-just talking t-to you i-is hard and y-you're...nice."
Aluin, remembering to have good manners, raised his eyes slowly and looked into Remiel's eyes, his blood red ones shaky and pure white pupils bit wide.
"Thank you very much for the advice, I'm very grateful"
Aluin forced himself to speak quickly without stuttering, and right before he looked into Remiel's eyes for long enough to find out his greatest fear he averted his eyes.

"If you ever build a birdhouse, let me know and I'll fly it up nice and safe. I don't want you going and getting yourself hurt. You understand?" He really really hoped this one tree thing wasn't going to come back to bite him. He wasn't sure what he'd do if he found out Aluin fell out of a tree one day.

Rem's eyes were about as comforting as eyes could get, though it wasn't the work of some super power, he just had the ability to be comforting when he was in the right mood. He held eye contact with Aluin as he looked into them and thanked him, happy that the boy was putting so much effort into something like this.

"You are very welcome Aluin. I am always happy to share my wisdom. If you ever require further assistance, find me and I will help you however I can."

"I-I...get h-hurt a l-lot a-already, but...o-okay."
Aluin agreed, not mentioning that he didn't really even know how to make a bird house in the first place. Would papa know if he asked? And wait...
"B-but...h-how would I t-tell you?"
Aluin asked uncertainly. He didn't know where Remiel lived or what class he was in, and Aluin didn't have a phone...

"O-okay..."
Aluin said with a nod, and gave Remiel the tiniest of smiles. The angel boy really was nice, and although a part of Aluin was telling him to make Remiel scared most of Aluin was just glad. And scared, of course. Remiel was still too white and his wings were too big, it was scary.
