It was after school, kind of getting close to dinner time but not quite there. Rem managed to stay strong throughout the day, but a couple run ins had left him feeling rather homesick once again. So, once school was finished, he decided to do something to cheer himself up. He'd stopped at his dorm room for just a minute, grabbing a homemade birdhouse and a few tools from his desk before heading out once again.

He made his way to the lake, flying so that he wouldn't need to interact with anyone. He went a short ways into the trees along the outside, and after looking around a short while, he found a good spot. With that, he would put the birdhouse up, taking his time and making sure everything was level. Before long, it was done and so he just kind of stayed in the tree.

As usual, putting up one bird home didn't fix his problems in the slightest. He was still trapped on the island and it still felt like the world was against him. He'd let out a sigh, getting out a small piece of paper and a book to write against. Then, he wrote. His wings wrapped around himself a little as he did. He wished Sera was actually there but writing to him was the closest thing he had. Even if the letters wouldn't actually be sent to the man.

Nobody was around when he had gotten to the lake, but with his wings wrapped around himself and his body part way up a tree, he wasn't doing a great job of watching for others.

To be able to walk in different kinds of places without being paralyzed by fear was...scary. Of course it was, everything was scary, that was just a normal state of being for Aluin. But now everything was a less scary, because Aluin had been through true terror, he had lived it for many years. So, as he listened the wind rustle the leaves and watched clouds slowly drift by Aluin didn't feel as scared. In fact, he could almost appreciate the peacefulness, the absolute lack of things that could or wanted to truly, actually kill Aluin. For the first time in his life Aluin actually felt relatively...safe.

Aluin wandered in the forest area near the academy when he had no classes, looking around with, well, not curiosity. Aluin wasn't quite capable of being curious, not yet. But he was mildly fascinated by the fact that he wasn't as scared. He wanted to explore this feeling, enjoy it. Aluin had not wanted to think about his time in that horrible place, but he could acknowledge that perhaps being trapped there for so long had had some perks as well.

Aluin arrived to the large body of water, and he kept his distance. Aluin had become braver, but not brave enough to approach the ominous-looking water. So, instead he walked around the lake, still remaining in the trees and occasionally casting timid glances at the water.
As Aluin walked he saw something in one of the trees. A big, white...ball? No, it was a person, or a very big bird. Both options were scary; Aluin still wasn't all that good at making conversation with others. He had met Sushi, the nice yellow person, again recently, but Sushi was different. Aluin knew he was safe, Sushi had been nice and patient with him when he had still been very very scared. Now Aluin was just pretty scared, but still scared.
But...Aluin wanted to see how brave he could be...

Aluin walked over to the tree, squeezing Mr. Whale in his arms to hold on to his courage, and lightly knocked against the tree with his knuckles to get the person's (or bird's) attention.
"H-Hello...?"
Aluin asked quietly, glancing up at the person but not straight-up staring. Aluin didn't want to accidentally learn the person's deepest darkest fears, after all.

The slight vibration on the tree followed by the voice caused Rem to flinch, nearly dropping the book and paper he had leaning against his knees. He was fairly certain he hadn't been crying, but he went ahead and wiped his eyes off, then peeked down to see a person.

After tucking everything he had back into his backpack, he'd flap his wings and float down to get a better look. And the immediate impression of that closer look was that this person looked kind of like Aluin but different. They could very well be an older brother to the boy.

"Um, hello there, do you require any assistance?"

Aluin immediately took few steps back when the person descended, the large white wings startled Aluin momentarily and he flinched, much like this person had earlier.
But now that Aluin looked at the person, and listened to his voice, Aluin...recognized him. He squeezed Mr. Whale a bit and, trying to avoid eye contact, asked
"A-are you...nice scary boy? I-I mean, Remiel?"
Aluin was pretty sure the boy had introduced himself as Remiel. Aluin still remembered the pure white boy who had taken him home and been afraid of papa, long ago. Or, well, not that long ago for Remiel...

Nice scary boy? The only person who referred to him by that was Aluin, and with the resemblance and the fact That they didn’t know for certain that he was in fact Remiel, Rem was pretty sure this was some brother he never knew about.

“I am Remiel, yes. And who might you be? You remind me very much of a boy named Aluin.”

Where Rem was from, he’d never actually seen somebody age up quickly. Aside from himself, he’d seen very little of anyone aging. The other angels were far older than him and always just looked the same on account of having stopped growing or being in the stages of growing very slowly. It was Sera who taught him about how most species age.

At first Aluin got sad, because it seemed like Remiel didn't remember him. Aluin even had time to let his head and thoughts sink. But then Remiel mentioned his name, and Aluin's head elevated again and Aluin realized he just looked too different. Remiel didn't realize he was Aluin. Same as with Sushi.

"I, um, I-I am...Aluin."
Aluin said and hesitantly showed Mr. Whale. If he remembered right Remiel had seen Mr. Whale last time.
"Y-you...helped me, um, g-get home..."
Aluin further explained, fidgeting with Mr. Whale's fins.

Rem’s eyes went wide with fascination at the realization that this was in fact Aluin. Just him saying it was enough, but the whale pretty much confirmed it.

Rem let himself down completely so that he would be standing on the ground. “Yes, I remember you, don’t worry. I was only thrown off by how much you’ve changed in the short time since I last saw you.” He tried to keep his inspecting to a minimum but he was still curious as to what had happened. Aluin used to be so tiny and now they were actually nearing the same height.

“How have you been? I do hope you are managing to stay out of trouble.”

Remiel was thrown off. Like Aluin thought, that made sense. He gave a small nod, trying not to flinch when Remiel lowered himself to the ground completely. Remiel had become so much smaller too...last time Aluin had seen the boy he had looked up at him, but now Aluin didn't need to move his head to see Remiel's eyes. It was scary, eye contact would be so easy...
Aluin kept his eyes firmly away from Remiel's eyes.

"T-trouble is s-scary, I wouldn't l-look for it on p-purpose..."
Aluin answered, shaking his head a bit, and he slowly put Mr. Whale in his hoodie pocket. He wanted to see if he'd get through this okay without Mr. Whale.
"I-I wanted to...t-thank you. Y-you were...n-nice to me, h-helped me. I-I never f-forget those who...h-help me. So, I-I...w-wanted to say it. T-thank you..."

Rem smiled, happy to hear that Aluin was at the very least trying his best to stay out of trouble. If anything, Rem was pretty confident that Aluin wasn't a troublemaker.

His smile then disappeared as he listened to what else Aluin had to say, quickly figuring out that it was a thanks for what happened not too long ago. It seemed that the kid had not only grown up physically, but also mentally. Perhaps it was just how shaken he was before, but he certainly seemed to be more confident than he was, even if he was still struggling.

"You're very welcome, I am always more than happy to help out those who are deserving, and you seem like a good kid Aluin. If you ever need help again, just let me know and I'll come to your aid. After all, I'm a guardian angel, I was made for this type of stuff."

Aluin seemed...like a good kid? Aluin almost wanted to argue against that, he was most definitely not that good, not deep inside. He had been getting really scary and dangerous urges, even now as he looked at Remiel small part of Aluin was whispering for him to make the boy scared, break his mind and make him insane with fear. But Aluin wouldn't listen, he refused to. The voice was scary and the urges were scary, and he would never do that to someone who had been kind to him and helped him.

So, Aluin did his best to answer the smile from earlier with a small, timid version of his own.
"I-I will...k-keep that in m-mind..."
Aluin assured, and allowed his to gently squeeze Mr. Whale inside his pocket. He had been able to thank Remiel and didn't have to hug Mr. Whale when he did it. Maybe he was actually getting better at this, slowly...
Aluin glanced up at the tree Remiel had been in, took a shaky breath and asked
"W-what w-were you...d-doing up t-there?"
Asking questions was still pretty hard, but Aluin was getting better at that too.
