Avoiding people and problems wasn't really nothing new for Anna. Rather, she was really good at it. She had avoided her bullies, her parents, the servants, and that annoying bitch witch Blair. Her being gone was one of the good things about getting stranded here.
But this was for sure the first time Anna actively avoided her friends. Sure, she had avoided some of them occasionally, but never with the intention of them not being able to find her. So this felt weird, hiding and walking around keeping an eye out for Jazz and Ronnie and Risky and the others. But Anna wasn't about to disappoint them all with her fucked up magic, she was going to figure this shit out and then go back to them, as reliable as she was before.

Though Anna was still kind of dependent on this academy, even if she didn't go to the classes. She was listed under a fake name so Anna's friends couldn't find her, and that meant Anna could at least use her dorm room as a storage and home base. She had checked it wasn't near the rooms of her friends, and just in case Anna always snuck in through the window. Which was kind of hard and humiliating without her magic.
That was what Anna was doing this time as well, circling around the dorm building to get to her room window. She looked down on her boots with slight disgust, they were all muddy and grimy from all this sneaking around. Jesus, Anna would have to get her magic back asap so she could get back to walking along normal roads like everyone else.

Jasmine had heard from Ronnie that Anna was on the island. But she hadn't come forward, hadn't made any effort to contact them. Which, honestly? With the stuff with Risky and Duke being hospitalized... it hurt. It felt like her whole friend group was slowly falling apart and she didn't know what to do. For once Jazz didn't have a plan and it scared her and made her feel like a failure. She put on a brave face for everyone, but she had cried alone in her dorm room since coming to this world than she ever had back home.

So she had looked for Anna. Looked everywhere. Lost sleep. Made up for it with too much coffee. But nothing. It was like... like... Gosh darn it, it was like Anna didn't want to be found. Which just compounded Jazz's frustrations.

She didn't know when she had given up, like formally speaking. But somewhere between wandering the streets at three AM and asking around campus for the fiftieth time, she had just lost hope. She still went through the motions but Jazz had no expectations anymore.

She was barely even aware of her surroundings, walking around campus because it was the thing to do. When she saw movement out if the corner of her eye and stared at someone climbing into a dorm window. Someone with very familiar black hair and style.

A sudden surge of hope and adrenaline hit Jazz and she was running towards the wall immediately. Unlike Anna, she was more than adept at climbing walls, scrambling up quickly before the window could shut on her.

"Anna?!"

The brick wall scratched Anna's knee, when she clumsily heaved herself up and into her dorm room, falling off the window sill and ending up sitting on the floor. These ripped jeans were only ones Anna had, and even they were starting to look iffy. Anna hissed a bit and looked at her knee, the skin wasn't badly broken but is stung, and Anna knew her healing spells wouldn't work.
"Fuck."
Anna muttered, and stood up, dusting her jeans a bit.

Anna usually left the window open, but she was actually planning to sleep here tonight and it was kind of chilly. So Anna took a hold of the window and was beginning to close it. But then suddenly Jazz's face popped up and made Anna half yelp and yell and she jumped backwards and fell to the floor again. At least nothing got scraped this time. Though that was the least of Anna's concerns, as she looked up at Jazz who had clearly seen her. Jazz wasn't looking too hot, she looked tired and Anna bet she was stressed out as hell. And Anna probably hadn't helped with that...
No, Anna wasn't about to start beating herself. She had had a good reason for avoiding her friends.
"Hey Jazz."
Anna said, standing up from the floor and crossing her arms loosely. Anna didn't avert her eyes, and kept them firmly on Jazz.

"Don't you-" Jasmine started, but had to stop as she huffed and lifted herself up and through the window. Dammit this was harder than she'd expected. Once she was safely in the room, she dusted herself off and glared at Anna. "Don't you hey Jazz at me. I have been running myself ragged looking for you. I have been so worried, Anna."

She didn't know if she wanted to slug her or hug her. Jazz was so happy that she was safe, but so angry for that very same reason. She had no reason not to find them. Jazz had even gone into the creepy goth book stores and cafes that she figured that Anna would like to leave fliers.

"Why were you hiding from us, Anna? Aren't we friends? I mean... We were never... like as close as some of the others but... I thought at least..."

"I just did, can't exactly take it back."
Anna muttered, but didn't really interrupt Jazz as she kept going, telling Anna what she had already pretty much guessed. It was exactly like Jazz, and stopping herself from beating herself up was getting harder and harder for Anna.

Anna had actually seen a flyer left by Jazz, in the community center where Anna sometimes sneaked into and took some coffee. But Anna didn't have a phone yet, and she wasn't sure if she could even use one of those futuristic looking shiny screen phones that didn't even have buttons.

When Jazz brought out the friends card that kind of hit where it hurt, and also made Anna's temper flare as she momentarily glared back at Jazz and balled her fists.
"For who do you think I'm-?"
Anna began saying, but took a breath and instead reached behind her back, pulling out her wand from the holster Anna had under her shirt.
"You want to know why?"
Anna said, and pointed her wand at Jazz. She spoke five ancient magic words, that were supposed to make Jazz float. If Jazz had good memory she might remember it since Anna had used it before multiple times to be lazy and float stuff to herself instead of getting up and walking. But...nothing happened. Not one hair on Jazz's head began floating, and Anna frowned to herself. She hated this feeling, not being able to use her magic. It was frustrating and humiliating and showing it to Jazz was even more so.

"And there you have it. I'm useless to you like this. So I was going to fix this before I appeared before you losers."
Anna said, trying to sound...not like how she was actually feeling, putting her wand back in the holster. She could already guess what Jazz was going to say. That Jazz and the rest didn't care, Anna was their friend and they could figure this out together. But the fact was that Anna was responsible for this mess, at least partly. Her spell had gone wrong, and that was why Duke had almost died and they were all stuck here.

Anna might have more or less guessed what Anna would say, but she didn't figure what she would do. Which was hug her. Just out of nowhere, Jazz leaned forward and threw her arms around Anna tight. Burying her face in the other girl's hair.

"I'm so sorry, Anna. I know your magic is important to you. But we're your friends, magic or no magic. We can't do this alone," she said, laughing nervously as she added, "I certainly can't. I need you, Anna. We all do. And we'll figure out how to fix your magic together."

Anna really wasn't a hug kind of person, but she knew Jazz was and that's why it didn't surprise her all that much that the girl suddenly hugged her. And as Jazz did hug Anna she fought back the urge to step back since she had probably already hurt her friends enough, and made the effort to hug back by lifting her arms enough so her hands were on Jazz's lower back.

Goddamnit, why did Jazz and all those idiots have to be so understanding and nice?! It annoyed Anna how she was even a bit relieved that the others would just forgive her just like that. They should get mad! Blame her! Call her useless, something! Since it was true.
"Okay, enough."
Anna muttered after they had hugged for a while, and nudged Jazz so she would step back. Being hugged by Jazz for a prolonged period of time was bad for Anna's heart.
"Stroking my ego won't help. Even if you need me I won't be much help without my magic. I can't even put a mute spell on Risky, I think that's what you'd need the most."

"You might not have your magic, but you still know all about it right? That's a heck of a lot more than nothing in my book."

Jazz had backed away like Anna wanted, rubbing at her arm uncomfortably as she thought about what this meant. They probably weren't easily going to be able to go home, let alone the Cryptid Zone to get June. But having Anna here meant that all they were missing was Eric.

"I haven't seen Eric yet. I hope he's okay. After what happened to Duke, I thought... I mean, if anything had happened to you guys. I don't think I could forgive myself."

This was partly why Anna had avoided her friends. Because she had known that once Anna saw them they, or at least Jazz, would have too much leverage over her. Jazz didn't need to say a lot to make Anna waver and she hated that.
"That just means I'm like a gun filled with duds. Looks threatening enough but it won't do anyone any good."

"If Duke survived almost drowning in the ocean then Eric will definitely survive. Have you met him and his ridiculous muscles?"
Of course Jazz had, and Anna wouldn't be surprised if Jazz was just a tad more worried about Eric than the rest of them, considering her...situation with him. Though this was the super protective Jazz who loved all her friends to much it was weird so...
"Besides, even if you can't forgive yourself then the rest of us will do it for you until you get it. Dumbass."
If Jazz was allowed to forgive Anna then Anna for sure was allowed to forgive Jazz. Especially since Jazz had done absolutely nothing to deserve to me hated, unlike Anna.

Jazz kind of laughed as she wiped at her eyes, trying to force herself to calm down and take better stock of the situation. "I'm sorry. I was just so worried. This whole place is insane. It's good to see you. Alive and well, magic or no."

She wobbled just a bit, her own lack of sleep starting to catch up to her just a bit now that she was no longer pushing herself. Jazz caught herself on the window sill and propped against it, yawning heavily. "Well maybe I'll catch a nap now that I know one more of us is safe. I've been burning the candle at both ends, trying to pull everything together."
