Gabe was leaning back against the wall, with his legs draped over the side of his bed. He reached for a cigarette but the packet was empty. Oh yeah I was supposed to get more of them. He let out a deep sigh. He hadn't been bothered to do anything worthwhile during the past few days, not since the break up. He'd barely slept or eaten and he stunk to high heavens from the lack of showers.

This was probably the only bad break-up Gabriel had ever had. Usually he was the one to end it which probably made a difference, but he had also never gotten as attached to someone as he had with William. It felt alien to Gabe being on his own yet he didn't want to go crawling back to William just yet. The boy was probably expecting him to do just that and Gabe had some pride.

The more Gabe thought about it the more riled up he got. Trying not to think about it only worked for so long before he started coming up with all the things he could have said, should have done. And when he thought about those things he got frustrated, and upset. He wished he'd done something more at the time, something that would have stopped William from leaving him.

Gabe let out a scream and smashed his fist against the wall, trying to get rid of some of the pent up frustration. He felt something sting and he swore he heard a faint sizzling sound. No, this can't be happening. I have control, I have control.

Gabe had more or less immediately disregarded what had happened earlier on, he'd put the stinging sensation down to the impact of hitting his hand so hard against the wall and he had convinced himself that he'd imagined the sizzling sound. Besides he couldn't see any evidence of scorching so he believed it was all alright.

After a while Gabe decided he'd better get himself a drink. His throat felt raw and scratchy and his head was beginning to hurt. He downed a glass of water before deciding that what he really needed was some caffeine. He went to throw on the kettle.

The kettle began to gurgle, and Gabe had barely time to move out of the way before it made a worrying sound and went out. Streams of boiling water flew everywhere. "How does that even happen? " Gabe asked out loud. He was lucky he hadn't got burned. He eyed the kettle warily, trying to figure out what was wrong with it. He began to link it to his own powers.

Gabe's electric must have somehow affected how the kettle's circuit ran and had caused it to go mental. I should have paid more attention earlier.... The signs were all so subtle though, it was very hard for Gabe to pick them out which only made it all the more dangerous.

By now Gabe had realized that he was going to have to be on his guard, it seemed that his powers were trying to escape his grasp of control by all means possible. Something as simple as turning on a kettle had nearly gotten him severely injured if not killed. Thinking about all the possibilities frightened him, everything was like poison to Gabe now. " Three strikes and you're out, " he laughed weakly, it was a poor attempt at trying to make himself feel better.

Poor Gabriel was terrified by now. His heart was racing faster than a frightened rabbit's, trying that last ditch escape attempt before impending death crawls upon it in the form of a maw full of sharp teeth. His wide eyes kept dancing around the room searching for any signs of danger. He believed that it was like a match inside of him, alright on it's own but once it struck something it'd go up in flames.

By now Gabe had forbidden himself from touching anything electrical. They were sure to cause trouble, at least in his eyes. Liquids and metals were also a restricted area. He was beginning to feel like he'd be better off rooting himself to the one spot until this all passed.

When will it pass, though? Gabe didn't really feel any different to usual, apart from the fact that he was terrified out of his own skin. His own fear couldn't be fueling his powers though could they? He didn't think it worked like that. He wished there were some clear signs. He knew how to work with his powers now, when he could feel them he could concentrate on them and direct them in his mind. But now he had no idea what they were doing, it was almost like they'd disappeared.

Closing his eyes Gabe tried to focus on control, he forced himself to push away the feeling of impending doom that coursed through his veins. Letting it drag him down would only cause him to freak out and then he would lose any remains of the grip he had on his powers for good.

Gabe tried to pull up memories from when he first began to learn to control his powers. Perhaps starting at the root of the problem would help him to figure out this tangled mess. William's voice chirped through his mind as clear as could be, it felt like the boy was in the room beside him. Gabe tried not to let himself focus on the recent events between himself and his ex boyfriend, and instead paid attention to what the boy in his memory was telling him about concentration and focus.

Gabe felt the sudden need to stand up, though where this bout of restlessness and anxiety had come from he wasn't sure. Perhaps it was the image of William in his mind, whose facial expression and posture were slowly morphing into the ones he had last seen. He felt nauseous all of a sudden, though whether that was related to the hatred and malice he saw in William's eyes or not he wasn't sure.

Concentrating was becoming increasingly hard for poor Gabriel and the image of his ex-boyfriend wasn't helping. His head felt funny and his eyes were heavy. His vision was beginning to blur and the room felt like it was spinning around him. Gabe felt certain that he was going to pass out. That's why my powers have been so hard to control, I'm just feeling a little sick...

An overwhelming tingling sensation like a strong set of pins and needles began to affect Gabe's feet, nearly knocking him back onto the couch. The prickly sensation began to worm its way up Gabriel's legs, through his torso and into his chest.

The man's throat felt tight, as if someone had a rope around it and was trying to draw every last ounce of oxygen out of his system. Gabe began to pant and there were beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

Gabe's chest gave a sudden excruciating twinge and he dropped to the ground. Shit I'm having a heart attack , Gabe panicked suddenly, I should have listened to William and quit those cigarettes when I had the chance...

In fact poor Gabriel had not been far wrong with thinking he was having a heart attack. Though he had been incorrect about the cause. Cigarettes hadn't been the reason that his heart had fallen into cardiac arrest. His own powers were the reason behind it.

They'd slipped out of his control quietly during the last few hours and while there had been barely any noticeable signs they'd crept through his body directly towards his heart, electrocuting him when they reached their destination.
