Somehow the joke about knights and damsels, that Cam and Kal had thrown around like nothing during the shell sorting, now made Cam feel much more flustered. Thankfully he blushed only when he had swam away to fetch his board, and Cam splashed some water to his face to calm down. The words "just surfing" had become a kind of mantra in his head as Cam paddled over to his board. Kal was not his knight and there would not be anything romantic happening like an embrace or hand holding or a ki-
Okay, Cam stopped his thoughts right there. It was getting unhealthy.

Cam climbed onto his board and attached the strap, this time on the ankle that he hadn't sprained. He looked over at Kal, he had already returned to surfing. Cam took a moment to just watch Kal, he looked like belonged there, on a surfboard surrounded by the sea. Similarly how people had said Cam looked like he belonged on a catwalk or in front of a camera.
Cam smiled and paddled back towards Kal, who was also paddling his way through the waves.
"I have returned on my pickley steed. And now get ready to out our foam."
Cam said as he reached Kal and grinned, he was now more confident since that tumble really dusted off his surfing skills. He had a feeling it'd go better from now on, sprained ankle or not.

Kal didn't have to wait too long by himself for Cam to catch up and once again the two of them sat on their boards just out past the breaking waves. He hadn't really noticed it before but they were pretty much by themselves. Obviously there were plenty of people scattered across the beach, and pockets of other surfers spread out so no one would have a collision, but for the most part it was the waves and Cam and Kal. It made sense, between the clouds and the breeze people were less keen to go swimming this late in the afternoon and you didn't want to be surfing in an are where you would risk running people over with your board.

Kal grinned back at Cam as he and his steed approached. He sat upright on his board as he re-attached his own leash to his ankle. "Eat your foam? well, you did say you'd let me... how did you phrase it.... be your poison tester? But I think maybe i'll save that for something a little more tasty." And then suddenly Kal had a very mischievous look on his face as he quickly swiped his hand into the water and sent a splash of of it flying towards Cam.

Cam was feeling the chillyness in the air, and he knew he'd probably be cold soon enough. But before that happened he'd sure as hell get some surfing in with Kal that didn't involve him falling over and almost losing Kal's board. He wanted to make some good memories, and every moment with Kal felt precious to him.
Cam blinked innocently at Kal's words and pressed a hand to his chest.
"Poison tester? When have I ever said such words? How could y-"
Cam was interrupted when Kal suddenly swiped a splash of water at Cam, and it hit him square on the face and made him sputter. Cam looked at Kal blandly with his hair dripping water, but soon a small sly smile crept on his lips.
"Not using your own water this time? If I didn't know better I'd say splashing is a thing of yours. This is mine!"
Cam said, and started paddling towards a good wave he had spotted forming some ways ahead. Cam sent a grin over his shoulder at Kal as he crossed and started paddling along the wave, and began his surfing. This time his feet were much more stable, though his other ankle was being a bit cranky, and Cam glided across the water like he had been doing it for years. Which he had.

Kal laughed and laughed at the simple splashing of water. Harmless fun, made better by Cam's dripping face as he reacted to the water. Kal decided that hair dripping with water was yet another good look for the man. Surprise, surprise. "Me? Have a thing about water? That's impossibl-," and he was cut off as Cam began paddling away at a rapid pace.

Kal grinned and sat there on his board watching as the wave rose up into a perfect curl. More importantly, he watched as Cam glided through the wave, though his vision was a little blocked by the wave itself. There were no mistakes that time as far as he could tell. Cam knew what he was doing and it was great to watch him. Well it was always great to watch him, but the surfing was pretty good too.

As Cam made his way through the wave Kal noticed the rise of yet another great wave starting to form. He did a quick check to see that Cam was still ok and far enough along that they wouldn't collide and then he began paddling to stay with his own wave, following a similar path to Cam but well behind him.

The surfboard felt like an extension of Cam's body as he surfed along the wave, smiling happily. He looked behind him, it was a shame the wave wasn't big enough to form a tunnel for him to surf in. Those had been incredible when Cam had learned surfing in Australia.
Cam saw the foamy end of the wave was approaching, and he leaned forward and dodged to the side, out of the way. This time he did his turn successfully and didn't fall off, and that alone made him want to jump up and down from joy. But maybe better not do that while standing on a board.

Cam balanced on his board, not yet sitting back down, and watched how Kal surfed. Cam felt like he could watch Kal surf for hours on end without getting tired, and he got a faraway look in his eyes as he witnessed Kal glide on the wave. If Kal looked in his direction Cam would wave in a wide motion and have the widest smile on his face.

For a few minutes the two of them were separate and yet still connected. By their mutual love of surfing. By the very ocean that linked their two forms as they glided across the waves. And by that feeling of happiness and joy that seemed to envelop Kal every time he was with Cam. Kal barely thought about what he was doing as he ran his hand through the face of the wave and turned back and forth, doing fairly minor tricks-the waves weren't large enough for anything too extreme after all.

He always felt stronger, more alive when he was in saltwater. Based on his abilities and the fact he was apparently a demigod, it made a lot of sense. As he enjoyed the water he glanced over towards where Cam had apparently finished riding out his wave. Seeing the huge smile and happy wave he waved back, though a little less wide of a wave as he was still making sure he didn't make himself fall off the board.

As his own wave began to collapse he turned and paddled towards Cam. "You look pretty happy-this is really making my day." Actually, depending on how things went it would probably be even more than that. But there was time for it to all fall into place.

"Actually, hey Cam, come over here for a second," he called out and gestured for Cam to get nice and close. He wanted to hide his plans a little but he couldn't help the mischievous look slipping back onto his face yet again. This time his plan was to wait until Cam got close and then reach out to pour water out of his hands onto the man. Nice, warm water though. The Kal special, if you will.

By the time Kal was paddling over to him Cam had already sat back down on his board, still smiling happily. He snickered a bit at Kal's words and tilted his head, feigned thoughtful expression on his face.
"I look happy? No wonder my cheeks were hurting. Making your day really is hard work."
Cam grinned, his cheeks were actually hurting a bit but he didn't care one bit. He was making Kal's day and his own too.
"At this rate I might have to start demanding salary."

Cam raised a brow at Kal's beckoning, he only needed to see Kal's expression to know he was plotting something.
But Cam had a mischief of his own in mind, and unlike Kal he didn't let it show but started paddling closer with a small happy smile on his face, completely void of doubt. And when he got close, next to Kal's board, Cam tilted his head a bit.
"Yeah? What is IT?"
And when Cam got to the word it he'd suddenly try and flip Kal's board over, or enough so he'd at least fall off.

Hard work? All Cam had to do to make Kal's day was to just be there. Talk to him, make a joke, hell he'd light up at even the little things like just being in the same room as him. But that was all far too sappy to say out loud. Instead Kal laughed. "Your poor cheeks. I don't know about a salary but i'm sure we can figure something out."

And then Cam had come close to Kal just like he had been asked. The plan had been so simple and yet it was utterly foiled. As Kal was just about to reach out and start flinging warm water on Cam the man sprung his own little trap. It caught him completely by surprise and as his board tipped over he lost his balance and rolled off into the water. His arms were already extended so as he fell he ended up flinging water wildly out of hands. Maybe on Cam, maybe not- Kal had no idea.

Once off his board Kal surfaced again and flipped the hair out his face before grinning up at Cam. "Ok, that was a good one. But you know what's better than me spilled over into the ocean?" He grinned and Cam would have seen that mischief in his face. Without hesitating he kicked up out of the water to bring his body weight down on one side of Cam's board and hopefully knock him off into the water too. Towards him. Oops.

Cam saw the mischief in Kal's expressio too late, he was too busy laughing and noticed the mischievous smile when he was already jumping out the water. And when he tried dodging Kal had already knocked him off his board. Towards him.
Oh no, this couldn't end well.
"Watch o-!"
Nope, too late. Cam fell on Kal, and instinctively his arms tried grabbing anything to hold onto. In this case it was Kal's shoulders, and Cam accidentally hit his forehead against Kal's pretty hard. It was like Cam tumbling the last time they had seen each other, except this time Cam was chest to chest with Kal and much closer. And this time Cam's head wasn't spinning just from being close to Kal. Though that was the main reason this time too, when Cam squinted at Kal, whose face, and lips, were veeeeery close. Or it was just his eyes playing tricks on him. Man, Kal looked even better this up close.
"Ouch...you've got rock for a head."
Cam mumbled, still kinda dazed, and brought his other hand to rub his forehead, which was pretty red. His other arm was still on Kal's shoulder, and after a moment Cam blinked, finally actually realizing that he was basically embracing Kal.
"Oh gosh, sorry! Is your head okay?"
Cam's mind told him to pull away from Kal, but his body didn't want to oblige. But at least he had the decency to tread the water himself, and not wrap his other hand back around Kal's shoulder.
Though he really wanted to.

Kal had meant only to knock Cam off of his board and hadn't really thought about which way he was going to fall. He should have realized that pushing on his board would make him fall towards him.

And then Cam had fallen into his arms. Well, first their heads had collided and then he was in his arms. Kal was pretty much unharmed by the collision- being in water made him a lot harder to hurt. But honestly that wouldn't have been his concern anyway. He looked at Cam, his face floating so close, and realized that he was probably about to throw out his plans. He'd talked it out with Skye and had planned to tell Cam how he felt when they were back on the beach, resting after the surf session. Not in the middle of the water while trying to stay afloat. But he couldn't ignore the moment. Maybe unconsciously he had wanted to make Cam fall towards him.

"My head? Don't worry, rock heads don't get hurt easily, and it's probably karma for knocking you over" he said with a soft smile instead of the usual big joking grin. "I'm more worried about you. I can keep us both afloat if you need me to..." He took a deep breath before continuing. His heart was pounding, and not from the effort of treading water.

"... or if you just want me to. Cam, I... when i'm around you I can't help but feel excited and happy. I want to laugh and have fun, I want to spend time around you. I want to be with you..." He trailed off as he sort of lost his ability to keep talking. What else was there to say? That he wanted to hold him; to kiss him? If... if Cam wasn't ready for that- or maybe didn't see him that way then he didn't want to make him feel any more awkward.

So Kal just watched Cam to see how that statement went over, treading water like it was nothing.
