So he knew her, but not that well. Jackal squinted at him, trying to tell if he was lying, before giving up entirely. He wasn't that good at reading if someone was lying. Or maybe Kalik was just really good at it.

Jackal was slowly coming to the conclusion that he was not a very good detective.

Things would be a lot easier if his father had decided to make him a human lie detector instead. Maybe he'd ask about that.

Wait, hold on.

Jackal smiled wolfishly down at Kalik, showing all his teeth as he did. Sharp. Big. Bitey.

"You ever met a human lie detector before?"

Kalik was honestly confused about what Dalia had to do with anything right now. He had no clue what Jackal was getting at with this line of questioning and was getting a bit paranoid. Kalik just still remained calm and smiled weakly at Jackal.

"A human lie detector? No. Probably because I'm not human." There was definitely a bit of snark despite the sudden feeling of panic wanting to rise.

Why did he need a lie detector though? Jackal was going to question him about things but was a lie detector really needed?
"Why exactly are you asking about a human lie detector anyway?"

"Oh, you know what I mean!" Jackal protested. Despite being non-human himself, the overwhelming majority of the beings he'd met in his long life were human. Or at least human souls.

"The point is," Jackal said with a note of annoyance in his voice, "that I can tell when people are hiding things from me, and you are. So you might as well say it before I sniff it out for myself."

It was, of course, a bold face lie. He had no such powers. But it was Manta Carlos, and a human lie detector was a totally plausible thing to be.

"How exactly am I hiding things from you? You are ask if I knew Dalia and I answered." Kalik stared at Jackal, like reaaally just stared. He most likely looked confused since he was.

Jackal wanted him to take a lie detector test for a reason. The best thing he could assume it was about Dalia which could be good or bad. He prefered to not do the whole lie detector thing but....that'd just make Jackal suspicious. "Do you ask every single stranger that catches your eye for a lie detector test? Is this your way of flirting?"

Okay, Jackal was not exactly a big planner. He didn't really do plans. And it didn't help that he was already starting to trip over his own scheme.

"What? No," he said. "That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying I am a lie detector, not that I'm going to take you to one." Jackal made a face at the mention of him flirting.

"You are absolutely not my type, dude."

"Hmm..." So he was saying that he was the lie detector. Kalik wasn't sure he believed that. Jackal would have already called bullshit on his name at this point...or he could have just been playing along until now.

Kalik opened his mouth as if he was going to say something but then closed it. "I'm not your type....." Why wouldn't he be his type? What even was his ty- Kalik just stopped thinking and just smiled. He should have expected that, why would Jawa want anything to deal with him? The only thing Kalik really had to offer that wasn't something messy as sacrifices was his body.

So that's how it is.

"Well Mr. Lie detector, what exactly do you want so I can I just be on my merry little way?"

Yep, he was failing completely, wasn't he?

Jackal threw his hands into the air, abandoning the idea entirely.

"I wanted some honestly," Jackal said. "But it seems obvious I'm not going to get it, and I don't really have the time to spend interrogating you on this." It was one hasty, last ditch effort to see if he'd admit to something, but Jackal's expectations were terribly low.

"Some honesty?" Kalik stared at Jackal some, he wanted some honesty. Kalik could give him some honesty. He wasn't so sure about telling Jackal why he was really here but he guess it didn't really matter at this point.
"Fine I will be honest, not like it matters anymore. I suppose I simply found you attractive and wanted to talk to ask you out on a date."

"Though I wasn't sure....on what to say so I was being a bit of a coward and then you flat out said I wasn't your type. So you already rejected that before I could properly get the courage to ask..." Kalik's smile slowly faded as he continued speaking. Jackal wanted some honesty so here it was, even if it was half of it. He stared off to Jackal's side as he started to frown.

"....What exactly is your type anyway?"

He what? Jackal's brain felt like it had the sirens from Kill Bill on loop. He was going to ask him out? That was the staring? He'd been so damned paranoid over Dalia that he'd missed every single sign, and right then he felt like his brain was on fucking fire.

"Uh," he said. "It varies?" He didn't really have a type. What did Ralf and Malara even have in common? Almost nothing, that was what. "A strong... family dynamic, I guess? People who have their shit together."

Alright, that was just him trying to compare the two to see what they had in common, wasn't it.

"Sorry," Jackal said, scratching absentmindedly at the back of his head, his tail swaying in agitation. "Didn't mean to interrogate you like that. Just... on edge with stuff that's been happening."

Kalik just stood there a bit awkwardly as he waited for Jackal to explain his type. He had hope it was just appearance based but nooo, no it wasn't. He said his type varies and then immediately stated having a strong family dynamic and having their shit together. "A strong family dynamic...."

"Of course. Well then. I'm starting to feel less and less of a reason to even continue on with this because it seems like I have no chance whatsoever." There was a lot of bitterness in his words that was just hidden behind a smile. "Well then I will leave you alone and avoid you for as long as I am here...since you are so on edge. Is that fine enough for you?"
