It was nice to see the gears turning in Michi's head, even though she was obviously confused. Adelaida always had a bit of "figure it out yourself" even back when she was hosting seminars in the past, typically after providing the basic explanation. Of course, most of the students tended to ask her for help anyway, and Adelaida briefly muttered a soft "don't quit like they did" under her breath.

But Adelaida was in a bit of a spoiling mood today. Perhaps it was the presence of someone supremely talented in the arts.

"If you turn it to this page, there's what you want to have. You just have to figure out how to include it into the spell."

She clapped her student on the back before returning to her seat. "You'll do just fine."

Michi was guided to the page she needed, but now she had to figure out how to put it together with the water spell to make it work. And by the way Adelaida had gone back to her seat after giving her a pat on the back, she was pretty sure she was on her own on how to figure that part out. Michi sighed, looking back at the page and the earlier examples. "Clockwise, in to out," she mumbled under her breath. Sounded easy in theory, but perhaps harder to put together in practice. She turned back to the auto-adjusting light for reference trying to find how each fragment were connected. At the back of her mind were whispers just talking amongst each other, almost adding to her struggle. She had to flip through a few more pages, looking if there was something else she should add -- after all, the spell she had in mind wouldn't have been the type that would activate as soon as it was cast. There should probably be something about a spell that doesn't activate instantaneously, right? "Maybe that's a little too ambitious," she muttered, turning a few more pages for clues. At some point, she would have probably need to memorize these so she wouldn't waste so much time just putting together a single spell. Carefully she turned back to the blank paper, scribbling down what she had gotten so far and hoping she got it right. After all, it should be just a water rune that's set up so it'll stay on hold until it's set off once it's exposed to heat. If she didn't get it right, well... at least she doesn't have to find out for herself the hard way. Michi stared at the paper for a while, wholly doubting if she managed to even replicate the logic of it before showing it to her mentor. If she didn't get it right, she'd guess she ended up making a spell about hot water getting triggered by... something. "Does this even look right?" she said, sounding monotone to hide her doubt.

Adelaida inspected the sheet of paper. It wasn't half-bad, all things considered. Rough around the edges, but well within expectations. She'd fully expected the first few attempts at actually making custom spells to be half-baked, and it was nice to see the trappings of the lessons there in the script.

She wasn't going to say that most people generally moved to syntax and custom spellcraft after weeks of practicing with spells others had already made. Best not to get Michi's head too big, she thought.

"It's sloppy, but it's there alright. Needs quite a bit of practice, and it's at a level of detail that's far from where I am, but I'm really good at this and you're not. Not yet. Don't worry, I'll get you there."

She let herself be conceited for a moment, and then went back to teacher mode. "Syntax is really simple. It's just a matter of figuring out what links where, which like writing, you won't really fully learn from a book. You'll develop your own style of it. From here on out, it's experience, experience, experience. And hey, we've got a bit of time to spare if you want to call it early because you picked up on things faster than I thought you would."

Michi stood there expecting a disappointed sigh from her attempt. And what amount of disappointed it would be considering Adelaida seemed very proud of her progress just earlier on. Truth be told she really wasn't sure about that rune -- she used the right runes as far as she was concerned. As for the order, that was something she needed to confirm from her mentor. And yet it didn't come. Of course, she'd expected it would be sloppy and considering this was her first, it would be reasonable that she was nowhere near her teacher's level. A relieved sigh left her, her shoulders finally relaxing from its tense state. Michi managed to crack a smile, "Well, good to know it wouldn't blow up on my face then," she said jokingly. Michi looked thoughtful for a moment, glancing at her work. Sure it was a mess, but she'd probably be able to work on that on her own. Eventually she'd be able to make them cleaner somehow. On the other hand... "Uh. I don't really have anything else coming up. I could go with a few more exercises on syntax so I have extra references, if that's okay...?"

Michi sure had the drive to keep going. That was good to know. Adelaida wasn't sure if she would be able to keep up with Michi's passion, at least in terms of teaching. A lot of the teaching was stuff she couldn't quite make fun or interesting - there was just so much rote memory involved that it was impossible to make it "engaging."

But Adelaida would humor her. She wanted a pupil like this, one who wasn't put off by the difficulty and instead saw the possibilities.

She sat back down, and readied to return to instruction.

"I understand... then, I'll stick with you until you're done."
