Every year, Avian spent Valentines Day the same way: avoiding couples and human interaction all together. In fact she made an effort to stay inside on Valentines Day! But not this year. Her mother found out that she hadn't made any attempt of being social during her freshman year, so she insisted Avian attend the Snow Ball. Avian's mom had told her to make friends (maybe even more than that, it was Valentines Day after all) and not just bird friends. Not a week before the Snow Ball, her mom sent her a dress, the thing Avian loathed the most about the dance. The introverted girl usually wore long, modest sun dresses that were breezy and comfortable. But what she got in the mail was something she never thought she'd be forced to wear: A low cut, one strap, sky blue dress. Even worse, a note inside the box read "Oh, and no sunhats, they don't go with this". No sunhats?! They were Avian's shield, something she could pull over her face to hide from the world or avoid eye contact! Not to mention it was a useful cover up when her roots were coming in. Her hair wasn't naturally white, it was blonde so she'd have to get her roots done occasionally.
But now here she was, just as her mom wanted, at the ball. She was desperately trying to make her dress seem longer by tugging at the ends every so often but then pulling it up again why she realized it was going too low.
"Mom wants me to make an effort, fine," she muttered to herself.
She would've normally picked a table in the back to sit at but to actually make an "effort", she picked one second to the back. There, now wasn't that effort enough?
Slowly, she observed her surroundings...it was lovely...but it needed more birds. Maybe some snow owls or snowy egrets. But then again, Avian thought everything needed birds. She thought the classes needed birds! Heck, she would BE a bird if she could! Thinking of her favorite feathered animal, she let her blue eyes dreamily drift off.
