Dorian didn't think he changed all that much in the last few years, but as soon as he stepped out of his jet, that became immediately apparent. He kept jumping at any loud noises and checking people's skin and eyes for anything out of the ordinary. He casually chatted with someone about the latest Marvel movies, and he swore the lady gave him the dirtiest look for saying that it was completely xenophobic to aliens. Xenophobia was completely fictional here. Right.

All in all, the rose-colored memories of the normie world dulled into a boring gray. People here were so... static. He could barely fit in when he had too much color cramped in his (perfectly sculpted) body.

Meetings with his old friends had gone strangely, too. One was learning French. Another had a baby on the way. The most fascinating he heard was one of them kissed their friend's sister without knowing it was their sister. That was it? No drama, no excitement, no haunted corn mazes? Dorian signed a few papers here and there, but at the end of the day, there was nothing.

What happened?

He couldn't say the last week went by fast. Maybe it did a little, but it was just because his schedule was cramped and not because of any enjoyment. When he was done with all of it, he let out a huge sigh of relief. It was over. Thank fucking god for that. He didn't have a lot of time to Skype Mia and Logan, and that was his fault. He kept dreaming of long red hair and tufts of purple. He concluded that he was feeling home sick already, home sick for his weird fantasy home, with his goddess girlfriend and unicorn boyfriend.

He flew to Greece directly after. Dorian was all handsome in his Armani coat, dark green scarf and shades, texting Mia his location. He'd love to hang out for a night, eat some Greek dishes and take a lot of pictures.

Returning to the world outside of Manta Carlos was pretty weird for Mia, too.

She remembered a time when everything seemed so incredible and she was so desperate to fit in with humans. Seemed a bit silly now, but being trapped in the same place for a few thousand years would do that to just about anyone.

Mt. Vesuvius…she had thought about taking a quick side trip to her old ‘home’ between her trip with Tesa and Aedan and meeting Dorian, but ultimately decided against it. What good would it do? She had no worthwhile memories of that place. Abandonment. Suffering. Death. That’s all that place had to offer her.

She was a different person now. She did not want to feel suffocated by its constant presence anymore. Maybe a change of last names was in order for her. At some point, using ‘Vesuvius’ as a last name had begun to felt so foreign and wrong to her. It was just her clinging to a past that needed to be let go.

With a sigh to herself, Mia pulled her phone from her leather jacket pocket and checked it. She scanned the crowd with blue eyes—no need for a full glamor when she already looked human enough, but it was much easier when her red eyes were hidden behind contacts when it came to blending in. Dorian should be somewhere nearby…

While spending time with Tesa and Aedan was nice, there was definitely that part of her that was eagerly waiting to see her boyfriend. Dorian had been so good to her—taking care of her while she broke down, while dealing with his work and school on top of a high-maintenance mess of a girlfriend. Logan was there to help as well, and Mia still could not quite wrap her head around what she did to deserve these two wonderful men in her life. She owed them so much for taking care of her.

“Dorian!” Mia called out as soon as she saw him. She went running, dragging her rolling suitcase behind her, before deciding ‘fuck it’ and dropping the damn thing so that she could get to him faster. Once she got to her boyfriend, she grabbed him in a tight hug and kissed him like she hadn’t seen him in a year…even though it was really only about a week.

“Hi handsome~” Mia said with a big grin when they finally pulled from the kiss.

Dorian was all cute as he waited, flirting with cute Greek girls and making business texts on his phone when he spotted Mia. Their eyes met almost in tandem, and Dorian ran from his spot to her, catching her in his arms and returning the heated kiss. When she pulled back, he picked her up and spun her a bit, excited energy coming in waves. He loved his cute, tiny girlfriend.

"Hey, gorgeous. Wow! Looks like you missed me." He whistled, goofy grin on his face, as if he didn't run up to her either. He missed her too, very much so. Who knew he'd be such a sap these days? He walked over to the stuff she dropped earlier and pulled it along behind him along with his other stuff, holding her hand with his free one.

"I don't know about you, but all these plane rides are making me nauseous. I do not want to be cramped up in my jet tonight. Let's stay the night in a hotel. I wanna see what they have for room service. And — oh!" Dorian wrapped an arm around Mia and snapped a selfie of the two of them, the sunset and city outline of Greece right behind them. He immediately texted it to Logan, along with a bunch of cute emojis. Gotta love those magic texting plans.

He linked his and Mia's arms together with a grin. "C'mon, my beautiful wife. Let me impress you with my dazzling amounts of money." He called a cab over, and had the cab drive them to the nearest most luxurious hotel. The Greek letters were disorienting, so he brushed up on the letters, grammar and common phrases in the ride. Dorian paid the driver, thanked him in Greek, and walked Mia up to the front desk. He waved a credit card in front of her. "Get us whatever room you want."

“Of course I did! How could I stay away from this face for so long?” Mia said, teasing as she pinched his cheeks. Gods, it was so much more than that too though. Every inch of her just felt so much more alive with Dorian around. Once she was back with him, she didn’t want to let him go and was basically wrapped around his arm as they headed to get a taxi.

“Ugh, seriously. A private jet is so much better than commercial, but I still felt crappy and had to sleep through most of it while my sis and her boyfriend were getting all smoochy.” She laughed. When he held up the phone to snap a photo, Mia blew a kiss for Logan.

In the taxi, Mia cuddled up against Dorian and gave him a few tips in Greek—primarily some of the more subtle aspects that a language book would not get across. As well as some curse words and naughty phrases, because why the hell not.

They pulled up to the most gorgeous hotel Mia had ever seen in her damn long life. Then he pulled out his credit card and told her to get whatever room she wanted.

“Dorian, you’re ridiculous,” she said with a laugh, snatching up the card. Well, he insisted she get what she wanted, so she turned to the clerk and said:

“I want the nicest room with the best view.”

Mia was then asked to give a name for the reservation.

“Mia…” She paused a moment. Throughout this whole trip, she has been considering her last name. Now was the time. ‘Vesuvius’ needed to be let go. But, well, she still needed to give the hotel clerk a last name, so…

“Mia Crawford,” she said with confidence, before looking over her shoulder at Dorian with a big grin on her face. Once she had the keycard for the room in her hand, she grabbed Dorian to go straight to the elevator—leaving the luggage behind for the concierge to bring up.

“You did say I was your wife, so,” Mia said with a wink as soon as they were alone in the elevator, heading up to their room.

The nicest room with the best view was nothing less than he expected. The two of them loved luxurious. They were beautiful. They didn't deserve anything less. The man behind the counter took a good look at them and Dorian's gold mastercard, convinced they were worth as much as the room, if not more so, and swiped it. While he leaned on the counter grinning, waiting for Mia to pay for the room, he heard it:

Mia Crawford. He felt his usual smugness turn into fluster, and his face slowly burn bright red with blushing.

"I — mmm." He bit his lip, goofy grin on his face, and looked away, head dizzy and filled with images of marriage. Sure, they joked around, but this just got a lot serious, didn't it? Dorian knew there were larger, scarier implications, but for the time being, he couldn't even think about any of them. His chest was too full. It was a little too early to be considering marriage but...

He looped their arms together as they got inside the elevator. Once it was just the two of them, he placed both of his hands on her sides and backed her against a wall. "Mia Crawford. You have to admit, it's got a nice ring thing to it." He didn't want to talk about it yet, so he bent down to kiss his tiny goddess in the lips.

He swore, it wasn't even that long when he heard the little ding. There was a whole lounge area on this floor. Wow. Alright, time to see what this was about. He swiped the keycard on the door, gave the valet a tip, and led Mia inside.

It was absolutely stunning. The living room was entirely glass, leading into a view to the ocean. The floors were marble lined with gold. There was a fountain at the middle with a statue of the water bearer pouring water, and an aquarium dividing the living room and bedroom. He pulled Mia close to another selfie and dragged her to the couches, pulling her into his lap. Like sitting on a cloud!

"Alright, now that we're finally alone... How did your vacation go? I hope it wasn't too stressful. Visiting relatives is always the worst."

Oh, his reaction was just too cute. Mia loved getting her boyfriend all red and flustered. Yes, Mia Crawford did have a nice ring to it…

When her tall boyfriend leaned over, Mia pressed her hands against his cheeks as they kissed. It was a bit early for thoughts of wedding bells, but damn if it wasn’t fun to think about. It never seemed like a possibility before…but Dorian, and Logan too, were changing so much for her. For the first time, she felt like someone worth loving.

But soon enough the ding of the elevator came, and Mia broke from her thoughts as well as the kiss. They soon headed into their huge, fancy room which seemed too good to be true to Mia.

“This room is ridiculous,” Mia said, spinning around to take in the entire room. “I love it.”

As she was pulled down into Dorian’s lap, Mia raised her arm and ran her fingers through Dorian’s hair while she nuzzles her cheek into his shoulder.

“Mm, it went smoothly. It’s still pretty weird even having relatives to begin with, though.”

It had occurred to Mia that she could take her half-sister’s last name to replace Vesuvius. Mia Agapi. Mm, but Dorian’s adorable expression when she called herself ‘Mia Crawford’ was too good. Perhaps it was too early for marriage, but there was something in taking Dorian’s last name that felt right to her—moreso than taking her half-sister’s name. There was a deeper connection in ‘Crawford’ than in ‘Agapi’ for her. Of course, there was also 'Delacroix' to consider...

She leaned into Dorian, pressing a kiss to his neck.

“How was Berlin?”

Dorian adjusted Mia's position so she was snug in his lap and comfortable. He raised an eyebrow at that answer. "Yeah? Did you get to meet Aphrodite? ...Man, getting to ask if my girlfriend met Aphrodite is so weird." He chuckled. Sometimes, stuff still pierced through his suspension of disbelief. Surreal.

How was Berlin, she asked.

Dorian hummed and played with her hair as he thought about it. When people asked questions like that, they expected dismissive things, it was fine, it was stressful, etc. End of sentence. Mia was really asking though.

"It felt odd," Dorian admitted, an almost spacey look on his face. Bah, he hated examining his feelings, but he should learn to do that at some point. When he poked at things underneath the surface, though, he didn't always like what he found. He ran his hand through his own hair. "My company's doing really good. Expanded. The profits tripled since last year and it's showing steady growth. But I..." He swallowed. "The entire time I was there, I felt like a stranger, as if all the people there were fishes in an aquarium and I was a child poking at the glass. Ugh, too metaphoric. I don't know how to describe it. I've always felt out of place in Manta Carlos, being a human, but now I feel like I lost my place among humans too."

This was way too melodramatic. He hated how he sounded just then. He melted into his seat, irritated, and picked up a bowl of complimentary chocolates. He ate one — it had strawberry centers! — and fed one to Mia. "Whatever. Those things happen, right? At least the complimentary chocolates are good."

“No no nooooo,” Mia replied. “If I had met Aphrodite, things would not have gone so smoothly. Because I would have kicked her ass.”

Mia paused, then added: “And by that I mean, she would have kicked my ass for trying to kick her ass.”

Mia laughed a bit despite herself. Fucking Aphrodite. She would be perfectly fine never meeting her at this point.

“I just met Tesa’s dad. He’s a demigod son of Dionysus. Nice guy, and totally the protective dad type. Watching Aedan try to keep his cool was entertaining.”

She continued to run her fingers through Dorian’s hair as she listened to what he had to say. When he started to seem flustered and irritable about it, she moved her hand down to stroke his cheek.

Yes, the chocolates were good, but she wasn’t quite ready to let Dorian sneak out of the conversation just yet.

“I get what you’re saying hun. Stuck between two worlds. Not feeling quite right anywhere,” Mia murmured as she shut her eyes, resting her head against Dorian’s shoulder.

“I’ve felt that way for a long, long time. Although, there are some places that feel right to me now. In your arms. In Logan’s arms.”

Mia blushed. Buh, now she was getting sappy.
