Katya had often gone into the Library for her studies. There was a lot she had to catch up on since she had missed so much when she was in her river. She cannot even remember when she had last gone into an actual classroom before coming to the Academy - or even much of what life was like. And now that she had come to the Academy and gotten into the Culinary Arts Program, she was determined to make the most of her time and education there.

Coming back into the Library was one of her favorite parts of being at the school for supernatural. The library was kept quiet by the librarians who wanted to make sure everyone had an equal chance to study and study well, but it was still alive with the activity of it's occupants. There was something comforting in the sound of flipping pages and crinkling parchment of the truly old pieces of literature. Scents of both dust, a mix of perfumes, and white-out were rather gentle, barely noticeable until one actually passed by them but there none the less. Shuffling of feet and small utterances of the occupants who just finally found the answer to that equation or problem that had been stumping them for the past hour and a half - something Katya herself could completely relate to.

These were only a few sounds that filled what would otherwise be compete silence that would drive her crazy. The white noise was always better than the music others listened to through their headphones. Katya had begun to walk to use one of the school computers when a new noise arrived. Frustrated and exasperated noises were part of the norm but when Katya passed the source, she was entertained to find that the source was making these noises for a peculiar reason. They couldn't find out just how to work the computer.

The Russian Water Nymph snickered, her hand coming up to cover it. "Need some help there?" Asked the girl, her thick accent laced with amusement and a touch of a condescending tone.

There was a brief pause as Katya looked over the situation and let her mind just process over this whole ordeal. He had spoken to the computer as if it was voice activated - which was a very different set of technology. But when he tried 'awaken' Katya had to put her hand over her mouth to keep from snickering. The Russian woman hummed silently as she tried to decide what to say. He seemed to think that her question was genuine instead of condesending, so she wondered if where ever he came from had any kind of sarcasm in its tone. Damn, this might be harder than she thought. A lot of her speech was sarcasm.

She strode over, her skirts floofing around her moving legs. Her fingers unwrapped from around the book in her hands and pressing the 'on' button on the tower of the computer. Clicking her tongue, Katya tilted her hip and gave him a smirk. "You are not from around here, are you not? And just to note, there are buttons to turn it online. There is one for the tower, and then the monitor to show what the tower is running."

Too be fair it was just the past seven years that the Rusalka learned some of this herself, since she disappeared from the time long ago. It was entertaining to watch him though with her feet shifting to carry her weight. Heels were troublesome a good portion of the time.

"I have not seen you on campus. You are... new? Or high school student?"

It was unclear to tell if the Rusalka was being condescending or genuinely thought he looked really young. It was not uncommon for people on Manta Carlos to look younger - sightly or significantly so - than they truly are. It was surprising to meet someone over a thousand years old who barely looked in their late twenties for the first time. But then again she was now a water nymph, so who was she to judge.

Katya did not seem surprised at his accent in his expression of gratitude. The young woman just nodded in return as she tried to think over how to address this. Did this boy just not understand sarcasm or was he too caught up his problem to see it or...? The green haired nymph brushed it off for now as she let herself tune back into what her companion was speaking about now. Ahh, yes. That made a little more sense. He did have that aura to him that told her that he had not had much experience with technology. But his clothing suggested he was from an area she last knew had become advanced. This person was a contradiction in her mind.

"Do not bow, if you are a student than you and I are considered on equal grounds here," huffed the young woman. She never understood that tradition anyway, it was always stupid in her mind. Left people open to attack - sometimes she had used it as an opening for people who trespassed in her waters.

"Lord above, do not say that either. Honestly, just turning on a computer is nothing to be indebted for. You could have asked a librarian instead of sitting here and shouting at it. A library is supposed to be quiet." That was a lot more said at once by the student. "I am Katya. It is... a pleasure to meet you, Aleron." It took her a moment to get his name right, and she seemed to say it more like a question to make sure she actually did pronounce it correctly.

The 'shouting' had not actually been shouting, Katya would admit at least internally. It was a figure of speech, but she did enjoy kind of poking fun at him for using such an authoritative tone with a computer that was not actually voice activated. Perhaps the silence of the library actually made it sound like he was 'shouting' like she believed. As far as she was aware, her hearing was just fine - maybe a little worse for wear because she spent so long in muddled waters that it may have damaged her ears with the bacteria, though that was debatable. He may never know.

The young woman tilted her chin up slightly at his question, before replying. "Yes. I am a student at the college." She answered, looking over at the computer that had finished starting itself up. "I can only assume you are using the computer for a class assignment. What, exactly, is your major? I pray it not to be computer science." That would be incredibly unfortunate if that was his chosen major given his troubles. It was hard to tell if she was joking at that with her tone -it sounded like a cross between serious and a half-assed attempt at a light hearted joke.

There were a number of things that she could see him majoring in. With someone so polite, he may enter politics. Maybe a business if he could figure out more about technology. He seemed gentlemanly, maybe he wanted to be a professional dancer? The possibilities were endless and personality alone did not necessarily dictate ones profession. Katya was a cold hearted orb and yet she wanted to work in a warm kitchen to help feed people - her specialization being to people who well... ate people.

There was almost a sigh of relief as the male explained that he would not actually be going into the computer science field. She would have hoped that the professors there were merciful and patient with their students like some of the culinary professors. Computers and science were both arts unto themselves - but together? Katya could only imagine how difficult that field must be, at least in comparison to what she had done in her own classes.

"You do not always have to use computers unless required." Katya scrunched up her nose. "Really just talking to a librarian would likely work to help you find what you need. If our library does not possess it, the public one might." There was also the possibility of the libraries transferring books if one library had an order for a novel the other one had. But Katya was not sure enough about much of the library's books since she only ever really needed the culinary section and a few of the standard fields from her time in her General Education requirements.

Shifting her feet, she almost took a half a step back. "I am in the... Culinary Program. I hope to specialize in alternatives for flesh eaters." Wait. What? She wanted to specialize in making food for people who ate other people?

To be entirely fair, Katya had needed to be caught up on her first year here too. Sometimes she still struggled with certain aspects of technology because she had to use it so little in her current field... Still, she could kind of understand the struggle. Transitions from things like dial phones to cellphones were easier but going from pen and paper to the digital programs for writing was its own peculiar situation especially when one could barely type - if at all.

"Ah it is that type of class. That's unfortunate." Commented the nymph as she readjusted her footing. Wearing shoes again was uncomfortable, but getting them broken in was worse. Especially when she sometimes had to be on her feet for hours at a time. There should be a thing for that now, right? Katya mentally shook the thought off, she was wandering again.

His reaction was actually not uncommon for people on the island - that more of an 'oh, ok' kind of reply. Perhaps it was the portion of her that was once human that told her that she should be wary of telling others. It was a wonder how he has not triggered her more violent state yet - perhaps it was that aura of general attraction he gave off.

"Just like with anything else - with trials and errors. Your majors, what do you plan to do with them? Do you plan to own a business or become an ambassador of some kind?"

When her question was not really answered, there was a visible change in Katya's features. Her brows lowered slightly and the curl of her lips turned downwards. It was rude to ignore questions but she would be lying if she said her questions have never gone unanswered before. That reminder to herself caused her head to twitch to the side almost like she was flinching away from a sharp pain in her temple. No. Taking a breath, she forced herself to move on.

"Only long enough to be in the college." She hummed. "I assume you have not been here very long because of the struggle with the computer. You are from where?"

Katya did not seem like the type to snap at him for offering chivalry, but then again she did not seem like the type to drown people in fits of anger or attack people. Appearances were dangerous on Manta Carlos - a lesson that Katya herself had learned. Thus some of her internal caution with him as of yet. Her sharp tongue got her into trouble but then again on a campus full of powerful beings she figured she would at least be able to get out without to many cuts and scrapes.
