[sup]Ever since his first day of arriving on the island, Steven curiousity about the supernatural had been awoken. However there had been one subject that had taken his interest more then any other. Ever since that first book he had ended up reading in the school library. The art of potion making. Steven hadn't been impressed though by the basic introduction the school had so far provided. Desiring to learn faster then the school expected but not knowing enough himself to learn from book alone, Steven had turned to the internet.[/sup]

[sup]While the internet was useful, it had the same problem that books had. Knowledge of the subject but no pratical learning experiance from experimentation. During his search though he came across people talking about the potions they had tried and where they had bought them. Steven had visited a few of the shops on his free time, but most had turned out to be shops that simply turned out to be those that sold products others made. Today though Steven had ended up one at the more promising locations. [/sup]

[sup]Pushing inside, Steven felt like he was walking into the past. The past of a country he had never visited but seen in the pages of books or tv. It was sort of an unsettling location and as Steven walked slowly inside he tried to stay quiet and as he reached the main room ended up gasping at some of the objects on display. "Hello is anyone there?" Steven called out, not wanting to pry further into the store without someone being present. Though did find it odd, that the items on display in the first area didn't seem to have what he would have expected for a potion shop. [/sup]

While Akiila normally tended the front of the shop, today was a bit different. Akiila had acquired a new ingredient, one he had been searching for a long time- the hair of a genie. It was hard to obtain, and no doubt the source was very pissed off at him. Totally worth it though, just to try out a brand new recipe for a potential wish-making potion.

He opened up a satchel, pulling out the shiny black lock. It was soft, and still sparkled with magic. ”A new product on the market will boost sales, don’t you think dear Nefera?” Before he could finish his sentence, his acute hearing could hear the chime of the front door A grin spread across his face. Speaking of customers…

He dropped everything he had to rush to the main room. Of course, he slowed his steps once he got to the dividing curtain. He needed to make a lasting impression, after all. So he threw back the curtain, put on a little pose, and sauntered in.

”Hello, traveler! I am the great and powerful Akiila, and welcome to the Eye of Horus, the shop of wonders! Who might you be, young man?!”

Steven was slightly taken aback by the arrival and grand introduction of the person who came down and greeted him. He hadn't really expected them to match the decor history but the bandages they did have on show, made him think once more of old documentaries. The clothes though were somewhat of a contrast, putting in Steven's mind something closer to Victorian English styles, the more modern in appearance.

"I'm Rosett, Steven Rosett." He answered Akiila, with a small respectful nod. "I'm a new student over at the academy. Ever since I've got here I've sort of taken an interest in the craft of potion making." Steven explained, looking around the front area once more as he spoke. Finding the other man somewhat imposing in truth, still not completely used to the varied of the islands residence. "I've been looking around trying to find an expert of the art, and now I stand inside your store." Steven purposely left out, that it hadn't been the first place he had tried, however did sound hopeful that the man reputation at least was as true as he had found.

"I've always been one to put the effort in to learn faster then my peers but even in my short stay here, it evident that I'm not going to learn as fast as I am able from books and a classroom." His words weren't a straight out request for assistance, but they heavily implied that Steven purpose in the store was not one of business but rather of learning. Even if he gained little insight or aid, he couldn't help but at least make the attempt.

Well, wasn’t this an interesting character? Students tended to avoid his shop, unless there was a potion that could provide a quick fix to their problems. He didn’t particularly mind this, but most of them didn’t care for the art itself. This young man was here to ask a few questions, and he seemed very invested.

So, Akiila listened to his proposition. He approached as he spoke, his bandaged arms folded across his chest. A brow raised, as he soon realize what he was getting at- that he wanted to know his secrets of potion making.

”Your flattery is very much appreciated, truly.” He spoke as he approached. He leaned on the counter, folding his arms across his chest. ”So let me get this straight, you came here to learn the secrets of my craft? The ones I have held close to me for several millennia, and have told no one?” He placed a hand on his chin, tilting his head slightly. ”Why should I allow that?”

Listening to Akiila, it started to sink in just how old they were. It shouldn't have been shocking, no doubt Steven had already met someone of around the same age even if he didn't know it. It made the man's question all the more intimidating to anwser. What could a young man, with barely any knowledge of the supernatural offer, that someone Akiila had met before hadn't been able to over all those years. It was time for Steven to break out the best words he could.

"Why? For a legacy of course." A strange thing to offer someone who likely had an eternity to live. "For to not to only be know as the one of the greatest of your craft, but for the history books to show that even those that came close to it. Only did so because they had learned from you." Steven continued explaining moving over to being in front of the counter Akiila was leaning on. "And I assure you, you will not find another with such an inbuilt desire to learn, and a willingness to work hard to be one of those that history would see as even greater for training." He smiled, it was clear that Steven was making him sound the superior, but not completely lacking in pride for his own ability. Not of his craft, but his nature to wish to learn to be a the heights of the field himself.

Steven was unsure if the words would have worked, but apart from himself Steven had little to offer. The money he had fueled his vices and lifestyle, and his other possesstion were almost exclusively books and none were really rare tomes, except for the occasional first edition novel passed down to him from his mother.

”Hmm...”

Akiila listened to his persuasion. For such a young lad, he did have a way with words. As much as Akiila adored being buttered up as the great and powerful witch he is, he had a fine line between that and ass-kissing. However, this case was different. Steven seemed to be genuinely impassioned with the craft itself, and not the effects of it. His brand of magic after all to years- no -centuries to perfect. He wouldn’t give out his secrets all willy nilly to just any old smart kid. They had to understand what the craft truly was This young man seemed to.

Besides, having a floor sweeper would be nice, too.

”Well young Rosett, you make quite the interesting argument for your apprenticeship. Usually I ask people and they say ‘I want to impress this girl” or “Teach me how to make my boobs big”! Ohoho!” He laughed boisterously, amused by the memory. Calming down shortly after, he ran a hand through his hair. ”I tell you what- How about I haze you a bit, hm? Maybe some tedious tasks, fetching quests, and whatnot. Perhaps after that I’ll bestow upon you my secrets. I’ll even let you stay in one of the back rooms, if you’d like. That is, if you can pass my tests.” He placed a hand on his hip, the other bandaged palm extending out in a shake. ”So, what do you say? Are you up for it?”

Steven smirked in amusement, supperessing the urge to laugh as Akiila recollected what others in the past had told him. An urge that grew stronger as Akiila told Steven how exactly this would go if he accepted. While Steven didn't exactly look forward to menial tasks, he found the honesty about them from Akiila refreshing. Many people tried to dress up the mundane. Steven wasn't the sort to let such a thing put him off though. Most things could be made entertaining if you are motivated enough.

"Up for it anytime." Steven replied reaching out and shaking the other man hand without hesitation. "Thank you." Steven added as a simple statement of gratitude. He wasn't going to hound the point through. "And I suppose having somewhere to crash other then my dorm is an amazing bonus." He told Akiila as he withdrew his hand away from him.

"So then I suppose the question that comes next is, when does the hazing begin?" Steven asked and this time he couldn't help but chuckle lightly. "I'm not busy and I suppose, that I have to make up for wasting your time."

There was something about this young man that Akiila did not often see in those his age group. He really wanted this position, and unlike others he was willing to put up with serious nonsense to get what he wanted in the end- magic. So of course, Akiila would launch the young student’s journey right away.

”Your first task….”

He reached within his cloak, pulling out a list on papyrus paper.
”I have a shopping list right here- well, ha, I joke. It’s not really a shopping list, more of a retrieval list.” Akiila turned the list to show him. On it was a single drawing of a giant flytrap looking plant- except this one could devour humans whole.

”I want you to accompany me to the forbidden forest to retrieve this flower. It’s got properties that make for a good base in most of my potions. It is however a bit… Snippy.” Akiila grinned ”You up for the challenge?”

When Akiila started to discribe the tast at hand, Steven was pleased to hear it wasn't going to be completely mundane such as sweeping floors or scrubbing pots. However when Steven saw what was the scroll in question, his eyes tried to process what he was seeing. A venus fly trap, his mind told at first but the subconcious quickly decide to pipe up, picking up on the different little hints such as the varied nature of its proportions that made Steven figure out it was larger then normal plant. Though the drawing didn't really do it justice, and while he figured it would be much larger in size. Large enough to take out a chunck of flesh or to lose a limb to. Steven was underesitmated its size.

"When do we start?" Steven asked not sounding scared of a plant. Even if it was big it was a plant. It wasn't as if it a plant could chase him down, and if things got out of hand Steven's powers would certainly be able to protect himself, though possibly at the risk of starting a forest fire. "And will we have to take anything with us?" Another question, this one due to the wondering the alchemical aspect of the endevour. Either they would be bringing the plant back with them, which was a sizable amount of manual labour, or Akiila intended to extract what he needed from the plant where he found it. Which wasn't a task Steven expected could be down by hand.

Good. He wasn’t going to whimp out. Though Akiila wouldn’t hold his breath, since the drawing did not do the plant any sort of justice. A broad smile appeared on his face as he patted the boy’s shoulder. ”Fine question my boy. We shall start immediately. I hope you brought good shoes to get dirty.” He held up a finger as if to say one moment as Akiila dipped behind the curtain of beads and into a back room. A little over a minute later, Akiila reappeared with safari gear- complete with the rounded hat, hiking boots, binoculars around his neck and a backpack roughly half the size of him.
One thing Steven had to learn was that he had a flair for the avant garde.

”This should cover the expedition! Don’t worry my boy, all you have to do is hold that little drawing there. I know the way, so stay close!”. He looked behind the counter to see the fennec fox. ”Tally-ho Nefera! You’re coming too!”

The fox yawned, rolling its eyes. She leaped on his extended arm before nestling on his shoulders. As Akiila led the way out of the building and onto the alleyway, Nefera looked back on this young boy with quite the skepticism. Unusual, considering she was a fox.
